By the way, there are still some of us young 'uns out there who love Canned Heat. Your fantastic music is not lost to the younger generations.

Alan Wilson was one of the very few players who played and sounded like the old bluesmen way before his time. Not only that his voice is absolutely haunting, the first time I heard him play and sing I thought he was black. His death was a tragic loss to the music world. But in his short life his accomplishments are incredible. Alan wasn't just a master blues guitarist, he WAS the blues and it came through him. He was also a troubled soul who wanted to rest so he left us. Rest In Peace Alan.

Mr. Alan Wilson, one of the most beautiful humans to have ever graced this planet! Here's a guy that is so amazing and talented that women should have been lining up to just sit at his feet. Sometimes i wonder what kind of crummy world we have going here

This has always been a favorite. Blind Al understood so much better than almost all the musicians of his generation that blues is a living thing. Learn from the masters and then use it to express what's happening in your life, use that structure to say what you need to say your way. Don't imitate the records, be honest. He was a really, really fine musician.

When he sings, Al Wilson sometimes sounds like Skip James--the high and haunting style. Then, listen to a few more cuts and he does so much that ol' Skip didn't get around to, like playing such synced harp and understated slide.

To this day Alan Wilson remains, in my opinion, one of the best harmonica players ever. His work on 'Hooker 'n' Heat is sublime. Hooker didn't usually play with a harp player but with Wilson he really gelled. That's the first time I ever heard him.

I attended one of the Bear's last performances, at a club off Gulf to Bay Boulevard, in Clearwater, Florida, about a week, or two, before he died, in 1981. A great loss, and a pox on the "fan" who handed him the dose of smack that killed him. What the hell was that asshole thinking?

God I wore this LP out ....so many good songs, thanks for posting a live version. Alan playing slide and Sunflower paying heed to the blues, laying off when the vocals or the slide is playing. Right on! A harp players dream even tho Alan doesn't play blues harp on this cut. Everyone knows their place.

I have an album of their's on vinyl called 'Living the Blues'. I have the live recorded half which has 'Refried Boogie' on side one and two. I believe it was issued as a double album. Anyway what I'm asking is if anyone knows of a good and accurate guitar tab of the solo guitar intro on side one. I know it's in 'A' and I think Alan Wilson plays it. Could be open tuning too. I've got a a lot of it down but I still need help with some of it. Anyone ?
