Candy Cane Coral (Caulastrea furcata) - Care Tips for this Beginner-friendly LPS
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
Caulastrea commonly called trumpet corals or candy cane corals are a beginner-friendly LPS. The reason they make good beginner corals is three fold. Candy Canes are generally hardy. Second of all, they are not particularly aggressive compared to other LPS. Lastly, they are not drama queens when it comes to lighting them.

Spot on video. Had great success with these corals the past year. Very satisfying watching them split almost every month and nighttime feedings still are thrilling.
Great info. You are pretty much the only one i come to anymore for advice, straight forward , clear and decisive. In a world with so many opinions, it's great to have somewhere to turn with obvious proven knowledge. Can't wait to see what's next! Thanks for all that you do for our hobby.
These videos are so relaxing

1:25 I just saw exactly THIS from my candy cane this morning when the lights turned on! (I know you were stating that candies aren't necessarily that aggressive but mine so is) I was astounded! I had no idea my candy cane had sweepers like that, dang! I have to move it now as it was next to other frags O_O
Very good video!! Thanks.
Great video, thanks for posting!I have a candy cane that recently lost it's green center... It's now all purple! Uh oh. Going to try and adjust placement based on your comments.

That's a great idea!
Candy cane corals like a lot light and medium water flow, also feed them reef roids at night time, that is when they usually like to eat.
crazy how google says 150-250 par, so i glued mine to the top, now i feell like i need to move it appreciate the video!
4:10 I’ve always wondered how the frogspawn grow
Good coral for any one
Acans yes, meat corals yes, chalice yes, candy cane never had any luck at all. Not sure why probally lack of knowledge really. Thanks for sharing friend and have a great day
Haha fish using coral as vending machines. Oh my! I’ve been feeding my Frogspawn and Blastomusa with mysis shrimp, hope this doesn’t happen to me.
Tidal Gardens what type of camera do you use to film your videos? Very nice video quality.

Thank you. I use a Canon C200 cinema camera.
I have never never succeeded with Candy Cane!
Will candy canes sting eachother if placed close enough to touch? I have a neon green and a red with neon green centers.
Hey can you do a video on fox coral, there are none to be found
👍 Than, can you make a video about Psammocora? You talked about it in your last video with Rico being a coral people don’t usually go for. Also, Hydnophora would be another good video. Since some people say its an LPS while others say its SPS, I don’t know what are its care requirements. Thanks!
I've seen these corals get SUPER fat and fluffy, but the ones that I have are similar to the ones in the video. Is there a trick to get them to get super fluffy?
How common is it for fish to do the "vending machine" thing? Cause I noticed all the LPS my dad feeds have been looking bedraggled. Anyone with that experience?
Waiting to find another green one since mine died early on.
I have a set of neon ones in my tank and Ihave moved them everywhere but they dont seem to open up...Ive had them up down fornt back and side to side. They havent dies and its been about 2-3 months but they dont look happy either..Any thoughts?

James Wilson How long do you leave them in one place? it took mine a while to look happy and also I spot feed them reef chili a couple times a week and they are now spreading QUICKLY! good luck
Than, I’m working on a new rockscape for my 75 gallon. Creating a few shaded areas. Mostly on vertical surfaces. What do you recommend I put in these areas? Thank you in advance.

JyB818 mushrooms!
These clearly would deplete the water of calcium and alk very quickly with the big stalks. Is there an LPS that would do this much more slowly? Frogspawn doesn’t seem to have the hard stalks..
Does this coral stay alive/grow without feeding? All my acro and monti and other lps coral are doing fine, but every now and then i lose a polyp/head of thr candy cane coral.

Marconius 1 you should always supplement foods corals accept imo

You should feed corals and not depend on light etc… I use reef roofs and nearly every coral eats it
Can different colors of this species touch each other?
My candy cane is so weird. Each polyp has grown to about the size of a half dollar but aren’t dividing. One even has a second mouth, still no sign of dividing.
Hey I just got my vary first lps coral a candy cane coral. Do I need to feed each head individually. Thanks for any advice.

I feed mine reef roids but I don’t bother target feeding i just chuck it in and then every other coral gets a go at it
I know I'm 4 years too late lol... but I have a question. I'm getting into saltwater keeping. I have a 30 gallon freshwater tank, but it's my first time owning (but not my first time caring for a saltwater tank) a saltwater tank. I wouldn't even call it a tank though... I'm determined to get into saltwater keeping and prove that corals can be kept in smaller tanks... I've actually gotten a 2 gallon decorative piece that I'm going to put a few corals in. I've seen it done by a few people, but I've been told countless times it wouldn't work. Above all though, I'm still here and ready to try😂. What are some tips you'd give me for someone trying to maintain a pico "reef" 'tank', and have you ever seen this done? I need more ideas of very docile corals that won't grow out of control haha.
I think this is the first coral I want to put in my tank. Are they particularly expensive?

Ortcelo They shouldn't be. They're pretty abundant, in my experience. Good luck!
I see what you did there
I feed mine reef roids at night .….also if cleaning near the coral you gotta be careful of there tentacles as they can sting..
Can multiple colors of candy canes be near each other? Do they sting each other?

I don't think so.
How about 3 times?
first
Lol, that was a good one. Smash it twice 😂
is it ok if I smash the like button twice? :) JK.. I only smashed it once.
Mine will not open
My candy cane lost the green on it and slowly died
64 people can’t figure out to push the dislike button twice smh lmfao
funny thing but I just cannot manage to grow it! I have nano that holds enough corals that suposly cannot be in nano becous of the size and being nanos not always have consistancy - and they growing, But candy cane?No sir.
If mine would just open that would be nice 🙄
I killed my 5* coral in my tank to much money in the bin
Hello stan I was curious if you had any of those black and green candy corals please comment back
My candy cane will eat normal Algae pellets😂
Hit dislike twice 🤣 I like that lol
