Candlepin Bowling - Phil Harris vs. Dave Dupuis (Higher Quality)

Спорт

(Re-uploaded in higher quality and in HD, special thanks again to Scott Rondelli for providing a higher quality version of this tape compared to the first time I uploaded this awhile back. :) If you would like to still watch the original upload from late 2020, you can find it here: • Candlepin Bowling - Ph... ) Air date: 4/4/1992. This was the week after Dave Dupuis defeated Ed Czernicki, having to now face off against Phil Harris, who was making his first appearance on the show itself.
This particular show went right to the very end to determine the winner, featuring great shots from both bowlers but also featured one of the LOUDEST crowds I have ever heard on any telecast in general, which made this a VERY fun match to watch between the two bowlers.
Hope you enjoy and R.I.P. Don Gillis.

Don Gillis mentioned that someone on an audience sounds like his brother. That audience member might be originally from Nova Scotia along with Don Gillis; however, its not safe to assume as some Nova Scotians, especially those from the Annapolis Valley and Cumberland County areas, have accents similar to New England as a result of Planter influence. As a Nova Scotian myself, I'm aware that Nova Scotia has several different accent varieties due to different migration patterns in that Canadian province's history, including the Foreign Protestants (mostly descendants of Montbeliard French, Swiss, German, and Austrian German immigrants), New England Planters (American), United Empire Loyalists (American), and Highland Clearances (Scotland).

Actually, Don was responding to a viewer's letter inquiring if an audience member was his brother because he looked like him. Nothing about the person sounding like him.

Always interesting to see these matchups between guys who weren't regulars on the championship show. They weren't as electric as a Dick O'Connell or a Paul Berger or a Tom Olszta, but they tended to put on a good match.

I really appreciate all the old videos you post. I remember seeing an old show that was filmed at Thunderbird Bowl in Auburn, MA (now gone). However I am unable to find it again through my normal and exhaustive searching. Do you happen to know if you have any videos from there? They had an uncommon ball return, in a sort of circle with a cone shape in the middle. They made a very distinctive sound when the balls came in.. guh guh guh guh.. The ball return also had the hand fan on it. I remember watching a video and randomly hearing that sound; it trigged my childhood and teenage years like it was yesterday and I can still hear that sound to this day. Thunderbird also had a few lanes set up perpendicularly to the rest of the lanes and front desk area. How neat that was. I'm just wondering if you know of any particular videos I could look for? Thank you again.
