This information is extremely helpful! I now understand why some of my store bought candles tunneled. It always frustrates me when that happens. I’m a extreme beginner and didn’t realize how much goes into candle making but I love it and can’t WAIT to get fully started. I made my first candle last night! Thank you so much for sharing!

Thank you wicking is definitely the hardest part of candle making. I am using soya wax and testing Eco wicks, CD wicks but we also have TCR wicks but not sure where these slot in! It’s a minefield. On the plus the candle looks great just a weak sent throw. 😂

Wicking is the hardest part of candle making. I started my candle making journey in May of 2022. I tried ECO & CD wicks in the beginning, then moved on to LX, HPSP, LCS, HTP, Zinc and I have ended up using CDN wicks. I’m very tough on myself when it comes to stuff I make.

Hello Erica, you look well! Thank you for this video. I am using c3 soy container wax and I was advised by a candle supply Co to use 2 eco 4 wicks for the libbey glass straight container which is 3.75 inches diameter. The eco 4 double wick in this jar can tunnel and I was wondering what your recommended wicks would be? Candlescience i believe on their site says to use 1 eco 16 that seems wrong. Thank you

Hey Erica! Let me just say I have been watching you from you’re on your balcony ❤! I have a question, I’m using CDN wicks, they are performing well during the testing so far, however , during each burn they get mushrooms after an hour or two. I thought that goes away after all but it happens everytime. I’m wondering if that is an issue? Or does mushrooming with this wick is a common feedback

Do the thicker wick blow out a bigger flame?

Do you recommend burn testing with the jars you plan on using with your line? Or test first using some type of a clear jar and once the wick is decided on then moving on to test with the vessel chosen for your candle line?

  • @MemoryBoxCandleCo

You must test with the vessel you plan on using for your candle line with your chosen wick/wax/FO combo. However, there’s no harm in testing other jars/vessels to gain experience and knowledge, but ultimately you have to go through the whole testing process with the vessel you plan on using in your line

Let's talk about the phrase you used "burning too hot", ok? So if my melt pool is developed within less than 4 hours, is that the standard, right? I guess I'm asking, you can't point an infra-red temp gun to the flame, but to what - the glass? And on that note, how does burn differ in cement vessels as it doesn't contain heat like glass does.

I'm struggling to find the correct size wick for beeswax candles. So far I keep trying wicks that are too small, even though the containers are small 4oz jars. I haven't been able to find any answers for a good place to start. I prefer all natural hemp or cotton wicks for the pure beeswax I use. Any suggestions where to start?

Beeswax has a very high melt point so I would definitely test larger wicks than you would for vegetable waxes. It definitely depends on the diameter of the jar but you may have decent luck with larger eco or CDN wicks! I’ve never made pure beeswax candles though so unfortunately I don’t know for sure if these would work but it’s worth a test!
