    Good advice on the Red colors. I used to play miniature wargaming (Blood Angels WH40K) and one of the tips to make a good red is to paint a layer of yellow beforehand. It is something about light diffusion but the science eludes me.

    Omg, I'm so sorry I forgot to mention my results with the black. (It was like 2am when recording this....brain fog. Lol). Yes the black acted just fine. Similar to all blacks I've used. Basically makes light gray until you keep adding more. I did NOT attempt to make a pure black so I'm not sure. But from my limited testing is was acting like black dye from other suppliers like candle science for example.

    I love Nature's Garden products for the most part. However, I *hate* the fliptop caps on the dyes. I bought Spectrum Dyes from NG when I first began candlemaking and it was MESSY no matter how I used the caps or tried to keep them clean. Droppers are so much easier to control the output. For viewers who may make small batches of candles or want to avoid the mess, like I do as I make them to order, liquid dyes might not be your best bet. Nature's Garden also has dye blocks that are nature-friendly as well and I LOVE that option. I still use those to this day. Gives me more control of just how much dye I put into X amount of wax without the mess or accidentally dropping too many drops into smaller batches of wax. Colors are bright, easy to manipulate. I can use an herb scale (reads small weight changes of 0.001 to fine tune the weight of dye block to wax for replication. I however didn't know the orange/magenta/burgundy addition to red to make it brighter trick. Never heard that, so you earned a subscriber, sir!

  • @BlackTieBarn

    @BlackTieBarn

    Yes.... what types of dye is definitely user preference. I find smaller batches to be better with liquid dye and large scale prodution either weighing the blocks/chips or weighing the liquid but that can get crazy on large scale. I go back and forth on the droppers verse caps. When I first tried caps, I had the same issue with messes. But, I am starting to think all caps aren't treated equally because some are much worse than others. Also, I have figured how to use them with way less of a mess. But its not super easy. I agree the droppers are far easier... BUT I have had just as many disasters with them personally. Lol. So I still use a heck of a lot of both. haha

    I use Natures Garden color blocks in my wax melts and was having trouble with a few not melting all the way (red), so I tried a different company and had the same issue, so I went back to Natures Garden to try the liquid (the brand you're reviewing) and I happy to say, I LOVE THEM, easy to work with and so much more control on adjusting shades from each color.

    Good evening Wade! Another great video as always. Thank you for all your knowledge. I have a question about frosting. I use a beeswax coco blend that has NO soy in it. I shy away from color due to frosting. How do you prevent the frosting from effecting your color/ candle. From my understanding soy is what frosts so if I’m having frosting issues does that mean my wax has a small amount of soy that they aren’t disclosing? I would love to figure this out because I am trying to launch. My only hold up is I love in a small town that has another small candle business that has more ties with the town (one of the owners husbands was a city council member). I am trying to find something to set myself apart because they are going the natural, ethically sourced route that I was going with as well, so I was thinking color. My jars are clear but the frosting is really turning me off from using color. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

  • @BlackTieBarn

    @BlackTieBarn

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey Bryan.... or Casey.... 😀 So color rewlly doesn't cause or contribute to frosting. Many people who uses waxes thst frost simply avoid color because it can make the frosting more noticeable. I guess my point there is.... let's focus on the frosting more than the color first Yes... soy is what typically causes frosting. I've never seen beeswax cause frosting. Are you sure what you are experiencing is frosting or maybe something else? Could it be jump lines for example? Hard to know for sure without a visual but I would suspect it might be something else. OR.... it could be frosting because there is some soy in the blend as well like you mentioned. What specific wax blend/name are you using if you want to share. You may also experiment with different pour Temps and also even make a couple testers with different jars to see if you have the same results. I've noticed some jars in the past leave a weird effect. Almost like the glass is uneven or something.

    Thanks. As far as wax melts... Well I mean it's the same as with candles.... just depends on the wax (whether it be for candles or melts.) Color is color but heavily depends on wax type. As with candles.... if the wax melt wax is mostly soy, then less vibrant. If more paraffin, than more vibrant.

    I've used Natures Garden micas in my wax Melts & Organic Soaps, but what about blending Colors that Contrast in one candle? Have you ever done that? If you have do they sell well, I know my wax Melts & other experiments, the Two color marbled effect people tend to like, but when I go into Spas their Candles are always just white or non colored.. I'm confused..I can't wait to be able to send you some of my Candles, after all my tests! So far so good, but u know I'm dealing with a rare bone disease & I can't spend anymore on Candle Supplies yet! Ty for everything you do, You r the only Candle Maker I feel confident in learning from and Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! How do I get in touch if I want to send you some candles or wax melts to get your opinion? TIA 😁🤗❄🎄🎊🎉

    Hi.thank you so much and merry Christmas to you as well. You can use the email listed in my channel "About" section. But I'm not taking any new reviews at this very moment until I get caught up. Very backed right now. Haha! But I'll get caught up fairly soon. :) Yes, I've done marbled. They do about the same as my other candles. There is something for everyone. Different people like different things m don't worry about trying to make something literally everyone will like. Not possible

    My issue is the smell from the dyes. I've tried using liquid dye from Aztec and the smell was so strong and off-putting. Are there any suggestions for dyes that do not have an overpowering smell? Thanks

  • @BlackTieBarn

    @BlackTieBarn

    Most dyes ate very concentrated so they smell very chemically out of the bottle. Once in the wax (if used in proper amounts) the smell should not be noticeable. However some dyes are better than others. I use both candle science and natures garden dyes. I'd say the ones in this video from NG have a less chemical smell. Hope that helps.

    Hi, great video! Can I ask - do you think a brown die cover wax discolouration? I'm going to be launching a new selection of coffee candles and they all have vanilla in them, which turns the coconut wax bright orange in parts after about a month. It would be great if a brown die could solve this issue. Appreciate your time. :)

  • @BlackTieBarn

    I don't think it will necessarily cover it.. but might hide it a bit more. Bus truth is, using oils with vanillin or likely to discolor is mostly unavoidable. But it definitely might help a little

    Hey there. That usually happens for one of 2 reasons. 1) wax type. Some waxes do it more than others 2) wick type or overwicked. Some wicks burn so hot they can discolor the top layer. Especially if overwicked. And this is worse with certain waxes.

    Yes. Some fragrance oils cause it to happen more and some wicks cause it to happen kore (depending on the fo and the wax type). I wouldn't let it get to you though. Doesn't mean you are doing anything wrong. Sometimes it can mean overwicked or too hot of a wick though.
