Candle / BSR Record Player Repair

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I picked up this old Candle brand stereo with a BSR Record Player in it. I took a chance to see if I could figure it. I got some good advice from youtube and it works great. I had to limit the music due to copyright. The music is from the album Armageddon by Prism.
Check out the fix.
Cheers

    It was a very good guide & a demo step by step given in your video without camera obstruction which was clear to follow to understand. Your method was simple to do of my own for the maintenance on my BSR Turntable which I bought a vintage turntable only to operate on my Amp. I'll see at your next video hopefully if you do come again. Thnx!!!

    I had one of these BSR turntables in my 1974 'BUSH - Scene One' record player. (In the UK) Used ones today, in good condition, are usually gummed up, but as you have shown, some dedicated effort can resolve matters. A few differences, in my efforts to bring these turntables back to life, include: 1 - Use of Isopropyl Alcohol to degrease the smeared gunk which is left after cloths and toothbrushes have been deployed to get rid of the majority of life-expired grease. 2 - I relubricate the parts with Lithium Based Grease, while for lighter lubrication, I use 'Clock Oil'. 3 - Use of Isopropyl Alcohol again, on the electronic switches and the volume/ bass / treble / balance pots etc. before I put the turntable back into its case, although I appreciate you would have done that immediately afterwards. Great video either way, and a superb insight into how to repair classic record players, especially for those who want to try their hand at getting an old piece of equipment up and running again. Care must be taken to always disconnect the power supply when removing the turntable from its case, or reinstalling it but, other than that, these are great decks to work on. Thanks for posting!!

    I once owned one just like this. I bought it for myself when I was 12 from a store in Ottawa after mowing lawns for a summer. Mine came with a set of external speakers (as "deeluxe" as these little record players came I guess). I noticed yours has that familiar (not loud though) 60hz hum. Your capacitors are likely going to need replacing at some point. Nice to see a Canuck channel for electronics repair doing something simple while keeping things educational. Nice job.

    What type of grease did you use on bearing? I used clear lithium grease ( for car brakes( it ran out and contaminated rubber idler wheel and stopped whole thing working correctly. Had to take it apart and start again. Thanks.

    Hi, you will need to take out and look underneath and find the switch lever. It may be held back by something misaligned or most likely stuck with old grease. Spray with WD-40 or other lubricant. Clean and lube with light oil or light grease. Biggest thing is getting rid of old grease. Most issues are due to old grease that gums up the controls. Good luck!

  • @jrockprojects

    @jrockprojects

    Sorry for the delay in replying. Make sure all the parts are thoroughly cleaned (I use WD-40, i find it breaks down the old grease) and free of the old sticky grease. Especially around the cam gear ( the round gear under the platter). There are some little parts attached to it that need attention to make sure they are running free. I hope this helps. If in doubt make sure all the old grease is gone and new grease and oil is applied so all parts are free to move properly. They are finiky things that take a lot of time and attention. And even then they may not run completely as new. I have some that just won't run properly but thats ok I make due. Cheers and good luck.

    Was wondering what could be wrong with my turntable, it works since I cleaned up all the gunk but it revolves too fast. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • @jrockprojects

    @jrockprojects

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi there, if the platter is turning to fast it could be a number of things. Make sure the motor is set a the desired speed. The spindle from the motor needs to engaging the idler wheel properly. The spindle has steps on it to give different speeds. Check the mechanism to the motor and speed selector. Make sure they are working properly. On a different model I had a speed selector mech that was quite gummed up with grease and needed extra attention to clean the spring that allowed speed changing. If your speed is just a little to fast,(1 to 2 rpm fast) there is probably no adjustment for that. My BSRs run about 1.5 rpm faster. It's hard to notice and BSR's are known to normally run fast. Hope this helps, good luck, God bless. Jeff

    @@dartg8279 oh, good. Yes some models do have an adjustment. Don't use wd40 on the motor. Use rubbing alcohol or isopropyl alcohol. It will clean the parts and evaporate, and not leave an oily film like wd40. I have another BSR video showing how I cleaned the motor with alcohol. Good luck

    Hello, I believe you are asking about the set down of the tone arm on the record. There is an adjustment for that. It is a small screw at the pivot point of the tone arm. I'm sending a link to a video that discribes that. Thanks for the message, good luck. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aIJsq9R9n86dc5M.html
