Heard this song last year for the 1st time! In spite of the theme of the song (singing praises to the Dictator Mobutu Sese Seko, which is out of fashion presently), I must admit, the song is well set, the vocals and instrumentals are well done. Those backup vocalists gave a good account of themselves! It's a song, well done, premium Franco et TP OK Jazz!!!

The song was relevant at the time. Like you said, as a work of art it has defied time and can still beat the rumbas of today. Replace the lyrics with whatever you like, it will remain a wonderful composition . I love it and I listen to it almost everyday. Besides Congo during his time was a hundred times better of than what it is today.Even though there is a lot more money in circulation the quality of life of the ordinary citizen is much worse and the gap between the rich and poor is widening more and more democratic elections notvwithsranding

@@jonathanngwa6819 well said... In the song, Franco asked a very simple question... Nani akoki kosunga ekolo? Soki Mobutu te, nani mosusu? (Who can lead the country? If not Mobutu, who else?) And now looking at the Democratic Republic of Congo, it has never been the same since Mobutu was forced out... Peace, security, and national unity remain elusive...!

I served a few diplomats from Zaire/ DRC (already under leadership of Kabila then). Conversations with them then in the Capital of South Africa, opened my eyes about the complexity of politics and perspectives. Their children mostly based in France and Belgium spoke from different perspectives about their native country and it’s history. As a young person then, Mobutu was what he was to me: a dictator. To the elderly, their memories carried with them a different person completely. It was my reintroduction to politics. Many moons later, as a politician, I serve in the local council in South Africa and I do a lot interaction on the ground and it is interesting how black and white South Africans depending on age speak of Apartheid South Africa. Beyond the perspectives, the language is so vastly different how they tackle their analysis of old South Africa. It is also interesting how these perspectives have changes over the years especially amongst old South Africans. This song always slows me down, reminds me of warm Pretoria evenings, the smell of coffee and tobacco and the exchanges between diplomats from francophone countries and many more long meetings I had to hang around for until our clients were done. We were never allowed to pack the chairs until they were done dining. Our owner respected the diners that much. I was always willing to be stuck around and cash out much later than everyone. I was fascinated about these conversations. To Richard Nwamba from 🇿🇦, thank you for keeping the story of Africa alive and taking us down these painful and complex past.

No, no, no. There no such a thing between them (Franco & Mobutu). They were very close until Franco exited this world in 1989. Everybody knew that Franco was a close friend of President Mobutu and they knew each other in the early 1950s in Léopoldville (Kinshasa🇨🇩). When Franco had health issues, rumors had that Mobutu is the one who has organized everything so that his friend Franco could go to Europe to get the best care ever. 🙏🤝🇨🇩
