I just found out he’s been cheating on me for two years, redirecting me in business to hide his tracks, watched me get more and more confused until my cognitive state completely deteriorated. Prioritized his family members over my well being. The whole time I had been trying to connect, create desire and basically serve his every fantasy and he was merely placating me to go on about his business in his own time. I never went through his things because I simply never even thought him capable of such horrific actions. He suppressed my talents and redirected my work despite years of preparation. We had the opportunity to go public, funding and everything but instead he pushed away everything and caused major confusion, turning into inner conflict. Should I give up on love?

@@MarsMcCarthy I am so truly and deeply sorry to hear about what has happened to you. This is absolutely unacceptable behavior from someone who did not love and honor you. You fully and completely deserve to receive and experience true and authentic love from a genuine person who genuinely loves you. In my 52 years on this planet, I have also experienced similar hardships in my own life. I also "gave up" for a time, and was celibate for 11 years while my son grew up, as a result of what I also experienced at the hands of narcisstic and abusive men who ruthlessly took advantage of me as well in romantic relationships; following growing up in foster homes, and being raped & beaten as a little girl. I only share this with you to explain that in reaction to my own trauma, I also personally "gave up" on my vision of true love, accepting in sadness that the man I had been seeking, hoping & praying for could not possibly exist. So, at age 46, believing that it was my only option; I married someone who essentially had no connection with me whatsoever, and did not love me but was using me similar to what you are experiencing; so that my son could experience a man in his life before turning 18 and leaving home. I wanted so much to give my son the gift of a "whole" family, as I had never had, that I threw away my core beliefs about what love is, looks like and feels like, and what was possible for me to ever experience. The lesson I have learned through all this is that when I "gave up" on my lifelong dream of experiencing authentic love in a marriage or relationship, I basically "gave up" on myself. Each person is different, and some do not need or desire love & intimacy in the way that I did and still do; and so it may be a valid option for some people to decide that "love" is not for them, and live out their lives completely happy without it. What I learned through this is that I cannot feel happy and fulfilled without love, and I would offer that if love is a foundational cornerstone in a human being's sense of self, throwing it away and giving up results in what I have experienced as a kind of "identity foreclosure" - it really felt like I had foreclosed upon me, when I foreclosed upon my deepest needs. I truly did not know who I was anymore. What I am trying to say is that if love is very, very important to you - I don't think it's really possible for a person to entirely "give up" on it, without giving up on life. During your healing, you may need to be single for a while in order to focus on you, and put the pieces of your life back together; but I would counsel you to not give up, and to know that you are so worthy of receiving the true and authentic love you so selflessly gave that broken man. I believe that the universe can deliver it to you, and am sending prayers up for your healing and happiness. Please take care & never forget your incalculable value ♥
