There was once a Great Goddess - the Egyptian Sky Goddess Nut. Maybe She was THE GREAT goddess of mythology - the forbear of all those who came after her. Or maybe She was one of other goddesses with many different names in many different epochs and cultures. Each an emanation of the mighty Feminine energy.
In Egyptian Ptolemaic times Nut had an association with Cancer which in turn had an association with the Moon. However, the importance of all this became lost as the world became focussed on the single male God of monotheism. The Feminine was reviled, censored and condemned.
In Greek myth we are told that Metis was from a very ancient time and presided over all wisdom and knowledge until the coming of patriarchy and Zeus. He used her magical powers and wise counsel to overthrow his father and then married and swallowed her so that he might use her intelligence and thoughtfulness. Metis remained inside the King of the Gods, symbolising the transfer of feminine power to masculine lordship. Zeus then practised her supreme wisdom and prudence throughout his reign.
The Cancer energy contains the undiluted core of the Feminine, the foresight, magical power and intelligence.But it remains hidden within the human psyche. It is Feminine Wisdom concealed from a disrespectful population.
