This is nuts , as a leafs fan we keep seeing high profile skilled players for other teams sign team friendly deals meanwhile here in TO players are overpaid like it's going outta style , I would take Cole C at 8 mil rather than Matthews at 14+ Stupid Toronto media has ruined this team

LOL Leafs fans literally injecting themselves into every single converstaion. Scoring 40, 34 and 37 goals in your first 3 years gets you paid more than someone that has 53 TOTAL as they exit their entry level deal. Leave it to a Leafs fan to not understand the difference smh..

@@kckrebs37 lol , can't beat em might as well join em , every hockey fan in existence likes to pipe themselves into leaf conversations , Seeing how defensive you are you must be a leafs fan yourself , Caufield was on pace for roughly 50 goals last year , I bet he starts outscoring Matthews in a year or 2 and keeps that trend or at least keeps pace

@@Dx-so7jm lol no not Leafs fan and also no this was not even a Leafs conversation lol its about CC and Montreal. But yes I am willing to defend one of the best goal scorers in the league from being torn to shreds by Leafs nation. The fun thing about comparing CC to AM is we can already do that with the 3 year age difference. AM was well ahead of where CC is currently, which is why he got a lot more money. But hey maybe you are right and CC can appear in 70 games like AM in his 4th year and score almost 50 goals and 80 points. I'll take the under on CC for games played, goals and points.

@@Dx-so7jm I want nothing more for him to leave the Leafs and find success elseware. Anywhere else...I think he should actually target the Devils. They could fit him, if they don't give Timo a huge contract, because their stars Hughes and Hischier are on team friendly deals. That team would be insane with Matthews.
The Canadiens got Caufield for a bargain. They didn't even come close to "All in"
That's how you build a core.

@@thailakhampo sure, an injury prone one dimensional goal scorer. It won't take Habs fans long to turn on the American...
Very agreeable outcome for him where he was drafted. Many teams were scared off by his size yet respected the potential if he were to be selected in the 10-15th overall range. Montreal took a chance that is for sure. Yet within this same draft area forwards Boldy, Newhook, and Krebs were also in the 10-15th range so it appears to be a strong draft class that is forming up so far. My team drafted Moritz Seider so no buyers remorse here.

53 GOALS OVER 3 SEASONS, UNDERSIZED AND ALREADY WITH THE INJURIES. YIKES. HABS GOT TAKEN FOR A RIDE HERE.
L
Imagine not even being able to spell his name right lol smh...Anyways I'm not jumping all in on this deal quite yet. He has tremendous upside no doubt but the injury bug has bitten him to the tune of over 50 games the last 2 seasons alone. There's plenty of risk with this contract that no one seems to really care about but I guess we shall see...

Caufield actually has very little history of injury previously. He was never injured in junior and in NCAA Even last year, he said he could have continued playing if necessary but Habs were not going anywhere so it was pointless. I think the whole 'injury bug' thing is overblown... but we shall see. Good gamble for both team and player in my mind

@@albertvanular433 I don't know if that's exactly how it went down. I know he was playing with the shoulder injury but then it eventually either 1. got worse or 2. was not improving, so it eventually needed surgery. Saying he would have kept playing if the season mattered is likely a little overzealous. I do agree though it's a good gamble. My main point was he needs to live up to the contract still and it isn't a homerun. But yes it sure could be.
