I had seasons' tickets to the NS Voyageurs in Halifax in the year that #19 broke in. He was not all that impressive but later on Sam Pollock brought in Noel Price as his mentor. Larry turned into a completely different player. The rest is history. I am glad that Hughes kept Savard for his leadership and mentorship. All the youngsters adore him. Valuable asset whose value far exceeds any first or 2nd rd draft pick.

Larry Robinson is the best defenceman I have ever seen play the game. Sure, others scored more goals and skated faster but no one has ever had more impact on a game.

Yes, and still averaging the least amount of ice time for all Canadiens defenseman. You would think with one of the hardest shots in the league they would want him on the first powerplay rather than high and wide Matheson.

Matheson has the most giveaways and the worst +/- on the team. Matheson is more of a liability than an asset. He is someone that is playing way above what he is. He isn't a number 1 dman. At best, a middle pairing. I don't even think that they have a true number 1 dman in the system. The mistake they're going to make is signing a very small and not physically mature. He isn't a number 1 dman by any means yet and he will get eaten up if he tries a lot of what he does in college hockey. This team is still rebuilding. Xhekaj, because he isn't a first round pick, everyone seems to want to push him into a bottom paring role, or as a trade asset. You don't trade what he has, Matheson has the value now at 30 years old as a second pp unit dman. He has some middle pairing skill, but he isn't a number 1 dman, far from it.

Matheson is more of a play maker, which is what you want on a PP, passing to the goal scorers. Nothing against Xhekaj, but he misses a lot more than he gets on net, speed be damned.....but the potential is there, he is only going to get stronger

    MSL STILL mismanaging arber ...unbelievable

Xhekaj is a middle pairing defenseman, he has the skill assets needed to play there, he isn't playing above his weight class, he will continue to get better. He's not a trade piece. He will be heavily wanted because you go to war with defensemen like that in the playoffs. He can play hockey, and will get better.

As much as I love Savard, and I do, I don't think it is Savard who has calmed Xhekaj at all. I believe it's fear of getting penalties and the repercussions of that. Xhekaj is different and has been different since he came back up from Laval. He's getting better but still don't see that full out personality he had. I hope he doesn't have to second guess himself as to when he needs to do what he needs to do. MSL does NOT like him and that is blatantly obvious or he never would have sent him down to begin with and never would have benched him for a couple penalties when he came back. Matheson, Struble, Slaf etc...penalties--- nothing has happened and nothing will happen . Xhekaj is a fan favourite. Very popular with most of us. Anybody see why MSL has issues with him? I do.

You're right about MSL's problem with Arber. Marty has a double standard with Arber; he wants him to protect his star players yet he doesn't want him to take penalties. It doesn't work that way in pro hockey. It also doesn't put MSL in a good light with the fans. He could easily trade Xhekaj, but he'd hate to see him as an opponent, laying out his top forwards. The situation really shows MSL's lack of keen judgement.

Marty is a genius. Look what he's done for Slaf. Look what he's done for Cole. But if that's true, why did he have to send Arber to Laval? Why is Ylonen struggling? Why is Matheson minua a thousand? Yes, Marty is a whopping genius. He needs to be gone.

I agree, keep Savard, trade Matheson. Let the kids grow. Specifically, let Guhle take the reigns. He should be given a chance instead of watching Matheson constantly give away the puck and make brain cramping decisions.
