From Toronto, moved to Victoria last year. Definitely agreed with you on some of the points. Again, I think people don’t realize how small a city Victoria is and if you are used to the amenities of a city like Toronto you will be disappointed coming here. I also think that the job opportunities in certain sectors are pretty limited here. Even if you are able to get a government job, they are very low paying considering how expensive the cost of living is here. Another point that surprised me a little when moving was the lack of doctors and/or ability to even access a walk in clinic. I think this is a big issue province wide that needs to be addressed. I also wanted to say that housing is not accessible here. Victoria has less than 1% occupancy rate and rents for 1 bedrooms are averaging around $1700 a month. I was like you and secured an apartment prior to moving here and I’m very glad that I did because it’s very difficult to find affordable housing in this city. I would recommend to anyone considering a move out here to come visit a bunch of times or even stay for a few months to get an idea of what life can be like. Its not cheap, the jobs don’t pay the same as Toronto (not even close) so where you save on rent (marginally )you will spend on food, gas and day/weekend trips. I also think everyone should come visit in November. Lastly, I’m with you Emily. I miss the theatre/musicals and live music in Toronto . Even Vancouver doesn’t cut it for those types of activities and its kinda an expensive outing if you have to fly/ferry & hotel on top of seeing a show

The doctor situation is spreading all across Canada. It used to always be easy to get a doctor in Victoria. What has happened with the Canadian Healthcare over the past couple decades is disgraceful.

My brother lived in Toronto for over 20 years, but when he was having children he came back home to Victoria & eventually went up to Parksville for work (he’s a trucker). He said there was no way he would have raised children in the Toronto area & we certainly were happy he came home😁❤️

Well there used to be a train from Victoria to Courtenay, once a day, whether you needed it or not, but it was shut down in 2011 due to poor track conditions, it was run by VIA and was called the Malahat.

While I enjoyed your video comparing Toronto and Victoria there are exceptions for different people. For instance you are both young, obviously both employed with good jobs. Not everyone can afford to fly off to Kekowna or even Vancouver for a weekend, I am a senior and live on a pension. Just grocery shopping causes me anxiety. I grew up in Toronto and love Victoria for the nature, weather, friendlieness of people but dislike the cost of accomodation and food. I can't help but compare Thrifty's and Save-on-Foods to No Frills, Food Basics and Freschco. I don't quite understand why everything is so much more expensive here and it's not just in the last few months. It's always been more expensive, Perhaps you could compare grocery prices or mention some stores that are more economical in comparison with Toronto. Also the transit in Victoria is really great compared to some cities in Ontario I have lived in. I too wish they would start the train from Victoria to Langford. I really miss trains. Thanks again for your videos I always enjoy them and it's a good way to start a conversation.

Hi Mike Emma nice to see your video again am always looking forward to them. yes Toronto dose have more things to do than Victoria. consider I live in Toronto but truly love Victoria am hoping to live in Victoria one-day. meeting people in Toronto is hard but Toronto is getting busy for me. I do miss the nature in BC and yes hate the cold here in Toronto it's crazy. I will agree with that. keep up the great work Emma I look forward to your next video

Perhaps a more practical comparison would've been Toronto vs Montreal. They're the two largest metropolises, one in English-Canada, the other in French-Canada. Just a suggestion.

We did used to have a train that ran between Victoria and Nanaimo. It was so much fun and beautiful. As far as night life, yo7 missed the good era here. We used to have so many great bars to listen to live bands every night of the week. This was true when I was young here in Victoria.

I've seen a lot more of Victoria because of this and a couple of other channels and I think when I was in my 20s & probably early to mid-30s I would have said Toronto. I like a slower pace now but Victoria is also really gorgeous.

Don’t freak out! This is only compared to Toronto-there’s just less choice because it’s a smaller city :) Right now lots of places are looking for part time staff, too!

I have lived in Toronto, in Europe and now Vancouver. I have a heck of a struggle with the constant rain in Vancouver. Have you guys found it a difficult adjustment with the darkness here? Albeit Victoria isn’t quite as dark and wet as vancouver and you are also from England so maybe it does not affect you

Victoria is nowhere near as wet and depressing as Vancouver. I hated Vancouver weather. We get half the rain you do.

Seattle is a fun city. Also expensive. Rains much more than Victoria (although not quite as much as Vancouver).

Isn’t this like comparing a Chevy Chevette to a Corvette ?

  • @obelisk21

I think the correct analogy would be comparing a Corvette to a minivan except Toronto is the minivan and Victoria is the Corvette. Like a Corvette, Victoria does a few things very well but gets beat out in almost every other category by the utility of the minivan.

Victoria (and Vancouver Island) beauty can't be beat. I've driven all across this country, and lived in Ontario for 7 years. Nothing comes close to the west coast.
