Canadian Pacific SD70ACU Locomotives

The Canadian Pacific SD70ACU is a Diesel Locomotive that was originally built as SD90MAC locomotives by the Electro-Motive Diesel in 1995. These engines were designed for freight service and can produce more than 4,000 horsepower on the rails. The Union Pacific and the Canadian Pacific both owned SD90MAC locomotives when they were first introduced. Due to technical problems occurring during delivery, the Union Pacific sold their fleet of SD90MAC locomotives and Norfolk Southern eventually acquired these engines into their collection and rebuilt as Norfolk Southern SD70ACU locomotives into revenue freight service after rebuild. As of late 2020, Norfolk Southern announced they were going to sell more than 40 SD70ACU locomotives.
Some if not most Canadian Pacific SD90MAC locomotives were stored and never ran on the rails for a while until the CP came to an agreement with Progress Rail to rebuild their stored fleet of SD90MAC locomotives into the SD70ACU. During reconstruction, Canadian Pacific chose 10 locomotives to be painted into Heritage Units. Then, 5 more SD70ACU engines were chosen to be painted into Military Units as part of Canadian Pacific’s Military Unit fleet. Let’s watch the Canadian Pacific SD70ACU locomotives in action.
