First time I'd ever seen or even heard of them was on a road trip through Georgia, starting from Savannah. I actually dipped into South Carolina for a bit and the first stop I made was at a gas station; as I was wandering around the mart, I came across two large kettles that looked like soup, then noticed the sign that said "boiled peanuts" - one was regular the other was cajun. Intrigued, I filled two small styrofoam containers with one of each, figuring I'd give them a shot. Long story short (too late), I fell in love with them and the rest was history. I got a new batch every chance I could that trip lol.

I know this is a year old comment but if you go the can route, use alot of crushed Red pepper flakes a few hefty shakes of cayenne pepper ground and done black pepper, when you add salt do it to taste so add some taste and the determine if you need more or less if less add a little water to boil the excess off.

I’m from south bama home of the National peanut festival, most of north americas peanuts come from within 5 miles of my home. Boiled peanuts can be found everywhere. Freshly made is better but I’ve had the can a few times. Fav beverage would be an ice cold Coke, salty & sweet, good beer snack too, Heineken works but I prefer something a bit more local.

First off they smelled horrid. The only comparable smell to me were soybeans when my family visited my mom's cousins and aunt in Illinois. Texture wise there were slimy. And the stuff inside was like eating slimy jellied goo.

I love boiled peanuts. Never had them from a can, here in GA USA they sell them by the side of the road. People do suck the salty water from the shell.

I’ve seen these many times in our local grocery stores here in Ohio, but never tried them. I might have to now.
