for welding copper use clean pure copper addition rods.using %1 hydrogen argon mix gives good result. %5 helium argon mix is better choice.

novice question.. can you weld copper sheets together with mig? Instead of mild steel wire, would you need copper wire roll to feed in to the mig machine?

Yes I think they sell that as a specialty item.

Hey man, curious why you brazed the copper on your awning instead of welding it like this?

Sometimes it’s a little easier to use brazing rod on thinner material because it melts at a lower temperature than the base material, minimizes the chance of blowing a hole in the material

Ya I didn’t get much footage on that one, but the is a short I just put out that shows the finished hood.

Yes I’m pretty sure they sell copper mig wire. I think ESAB makes some…..at my job we used silicon bronze wire on thin steel with a mig which would be similar. Soft wire like that works best with a spool gun that pulls the wire to the torch in addition to the wheels that push the wire at the machine

What about warpage ?

It has some warpage but it’s pretty soft so I guess it depends on what you’re making but many cases you can manipulate it after the fact

Ok ya that’s DC, your only problem might be not having enough amps, give it a try
