Andrea takes on the challenge of spending a full day in Vancouver, relying solely on Spanish to communicate with the locals. Will she succeed?
Watch this video on our website: www.dreamingspanish.com/watch...
At Dreaming Spanish, you will learn Spanish the way you learned your native language, namely, through immersion. Simply start watching content at a level that is comprehensible to you, and gradually work your way towards more and more advanced videos.
As researchers like Dr. Stephen Krashen have shown over the past 40+ years, receiving comprehensible input, that is, messages that you can understand in the target language, is what actually results in language acquisition.
By listening to our stories, cultural expositions, conversations and games, you will get used to real Spanish as it's used in context, and develop a native-like intuition for the grammar and the vocabulary, together with a clear pronunciation.
Experience the language. Become the language.

For anyone wondering at 9:28 the women talk to each other in German, the one speaking asks her friends if they have seen a "cafeteria" or "café" down the street at the right-hand side. Apparently its less of a problem that they don't understand español and more that they don't know if anywhere is a good cafetería and even less if it's a good one.

Fun idea for a video. As you said, it works in a multicultural city like Vancouver, but would be much more difficult in any of the surrounding towns. One of the most striking things about the video to me is that nobody reacts at all to a woman walking around apparently talking to herself. Not TOO many years ago, only crazy people did that. But that was before cellphones and youtube. Love your videos, Andrea. You are one of only a couple of your colleagues that I can understand almost at 100% at the Intermediate level.

The many cognates between English and Spanish really helps for basic interactions, like you see here - cafeteria, hotel, etc. If a Spanish speaker didn't speak English but was about to travel to English speaking areas, I'd tell them to try to learn some of those basic cognate patterns (like -mente words) learn a handful of basic (where, want, go, how, is, etc) words, you can do a lot with just a few hours knowing that for tourist type stuff if you speak carefully and a little slow.

I lived in Van for 7 yrs. I have never seen a person just walking into a hotel without any reservation. Idk aboug Mexico but in Canada hotels are usually booked online ahead of time. And walking down the street asking people "where is the hotel " would just raise a question: what hotel are you looking for? There are tons of hotels DT Vancouver , if you are a visitor, you'd for sure book one prior to coming to Van.

I find some of the levels mislabeled in Dreaming Spanish. This to me is advanced beginner. I think what would make this intermediate would be when talking to the camera, Andrea would talk more like she is talking to another Spanish speaker and not students. Thoughts?
