Just replace the positive to negative terminal and the negative to the positive terminal, step back and wait a few moments. They should be able to see your car burning from satellite.

Well, this is all about emergency situations... what if you run out of gas on a highway at night? You'll have to spend the night out cold while you wait for, either help you called to arrive or for the day so that people pass by and help you. What would you do? Waste your car battery too by leaving it on all night? Or make a fire with a pencil lying around the car?

Take a piece of alluminum foil, an AA battery and toilet paper. make a slim stick out of alluminum foil, put toilet paper around it, finally connect the two ends of the battery with the alluminum foil. The toilet paper will start to burn. WARNING: you may burn/hurt yourself so be careful.

To be honest, you only need the battery and a piece thin wire. If you don't have thin wire you can usually take apart the wire to take a strand. That will work as well as the pencil to start a fire.

That makes no sense. Their car works, and they probably have a phone. You should have a phone. And who takes a pencil on a bike ride? The only situation this might be useful is if you happened to be a sketch artist on a bike ride to a view or something, and you got a flat,. Then, for some reason. you biked a really long distance to where you couldn't just walk back to your car or house, and also it was in the middle of nowhere so you couldnt go take a bus. Added on to that, someone else has to have run out of gas too and that is the only person who will be on that road for weeks, so noone else can pick you up, and he can't drive you away. Then added on to that he has to have jumper cables which most people do, but who knows. If this ever happens to you then ok I will call this useful.

You could actually use regular speaker wire. But, realistically, if you have a battery, you don't actually need a pencil.The plastic wire coating alone will burn and catch fire. Wrap the wire around paper or a stick a few times, then short it out.

I do not smoke anymore but used to light cigarettes with a fishhook using the same method when I either forgot my lighter or it got wet. Just clamp the hook with the negative and be ready before TOUCHING the positive to the other end. Does not even seem to effect battery time on the water much if you do it fast.

You'd be pretty dumb to touch them together and no touching them will not ruin your battery either. No you shouldn't hold them together, but a touch won't hurt anything. The spark isn't even that big from it really.

Some people actually did this in electronics. We were given 9-volts and somebody thought it would be funny to attach a pencil. It wasn't split in half so there was no actual fire, but the smoke was there.

I find that carrying a car battery and jumper cables is really inconvenient when I am hiking in the woods, so I bring along a lighter to ignite my pencils. It works almost as fast but I don't need to cut them open first.

would have never thought about doing that........any battery will work by connecting the positive to the negative with a thin metal wire or aluminium foil or wire wool then using dry tinder on the hot wire to make fier.

I tried it and it does work, very fast. You don't need a knife nor jump leads. Just rub off the wood at the back of the pencil so that you have graphite exposed at both ends. Then put one end of the pencil on the positive terminal and the other end touched to the bodywork (no paint) of the car. You have a fire...

Now I can throw out my stupid bic lighter!

Or just throw a few sparks into the tinder. Derp.

Would it work if you took off the erase and sharpened down to the lead on both ends and then hooked up your jumper cables , or does the lead need to be exposed to catch 🔥 ?. You could have some of these already prepared in the glove box.

Tip: Stay in your car for warmth instead.

Yes and no, while the battery could power the heater fans for a little while, the actual heat comes from moving air across the hot engine. So you could get some heat for a few minutes, it would eventually get cold once either the engine cools off or the battery gets depleted.

The fan would work but with no gas= no heat which is required from the running motor.

Graphite has about 2 ohms of resistance, i was using this to check condition of my battery, it gives about 6 amps for 12v, its 70w, but i never thinked of this kind of application.

This isn't a terribly bad idea, but a _way_ better firestarter, considering the mechanism is a 12-volt supply is to snap together two 9-volt batteries and use a 9v lead, cutting the lead in half to snap both terminals onto the batteries, then using loudspeaker cable to extend the leads to the pencil without completely burning your leads up. Wrap a string around one side to break the connection without touching the metal once fire is made, and have a solar array around for charging things; it can be used with rechargeable 9-volt batteries to charge them with the power of the sun.

Another way is to use a battery, which can be from a car, or even as small as a 9 volt, and a little steel wool or a bare wire. By directly connecting the + and - at the ends of wire or steel wool, it will get red hot very fast.

It's not a matter of getting extra lighters out of one pencil as last cynic standing pointed out to me, but rather the necessity of a reduced resistance required to produce enough amps to start a fire. Try it with a full length pencil, I certainly will, the numbers don't crunch.

I just got really crazy idea. I really like launching the 10 ft rocket. So why not make simple CubeSat satellite? I think if it will be sponsored by some space company (like SpaceX or ULA), then it shouldn't be that hard, because you will get engineering support from their engineers, and if you will be doing something simple (like just have live camera onboard) , it's pretty much only a few connected electronic boards and some simple mechanic things (and of course the ground station). Sure, it's really crazy, but I think it would be absolutely amazing and a lot of people will learn something new. Also, the most expensive thing is launch (can go over 40,000 dollars), but if you will be sponsored by some space company, then you will pay pretty much nothing. The CubeSAT kit price is around 10,000 dollars, so nothing cheap - however sponsors can help. PS: I am not native English speaker, so I'm sorry for any grammar mistakes.

Materials needed, Pencil, Car Battery, and jumper cables. Make sure you need to know this! Just in case your stranded WITH A CAR and need warmth from a fire. Also make sure you have the jumper cables and a pencil so the cigarette thing that goes in the car outlet thingy doesn't work.

I pretend to make how to videos when im doing normal stuff that I'm not filming. Like, you butter the toast like this but for a real treat I like add a little black pepper. Only I end up doing movie quotes like, it puts the butter on the toast or it gets the hose again.

You can start a fire with a pencil... but you also need a car battery, or a lighter, or flint and steel.

So basically its more like starting a fire with a car lmao

If you get a q-tip and loosen the cotton then draw really dark mark with a pencil on a piece of paper put the cotton above it and put it in the microwave for a couple seconds you'll get fire.

Wow, that's just amazing Who would have thought that ALL YOU NEED to start a fire with a pencil Is: A sharp knife A car with a fully working electric system (and built in cigarette lighter) Booster cables Oh, and a pencil.

Can't think of that many situations where you would need a survival fire when you have a car and a working battery, but it's fun to make fire I guess.

Thats a handy little trick... and if you like you can compliment your trick by having a tasty bag of corn chips or maybe just a few chips in a kit along with your fire starting pencil. okay... once your pencil ignites into a flame take a corn chip and hold it in the fire. the chip will catch fire rather quickly and it will burn for several minutes allowing you even more time to get your main fire going. the cooking oil used to fry the chips is what's burning,. ever take your hand out a bag of Frito's and see the shiny glaze on your hand??? well thats the cooking oil you will burn :) Works Very Well.... have a great day my friend..
