@@pokpok97642 You wish. Winning as Germans is actually pretty easy in this mod. I have no idea how Tommy managed to stall this offensive. This mod actually offers a second start date which is a few months later and that one is harder.

0:47 Stalingrad was incredibly important, it was a centre of population and industry. It was on the Volga, a vital supply line - and one of the routes Western lend-lease went though. It was also an entrance to the Caucuses, when 75% of Soviet oil was extracted - note, that the USSR was one of the world's leading oil produces. And people still say the battle was all about the name.

Hitler himself said in a November speech about the importance of Stalingrad where he jokingly mentioned that it was not the name of Stalin that drove him there in the first place. Given that he was aware of the fuel shortage and had to stop fall blau to resume after capturing Stalingrad and preventing a soviet counter offensive.

No fuel for the main attack on stalingrad and after either.

Stalingrad was an extremely important objective during the war not for propaganda purposes (propaganda was very irrelevant actually) but because it was the last railway hub to the Caucasus, if Stalingrad fell so would the Caucasus front and who knows what would have happen if AG South had free reign there

Except the Soviet would have just put every oil field on fire to deny the Germans any ressource, just like they have done the 2 years prior, also, the Germans would so overextended it would have been easy to cut them off.

yeah lol plus it was on the volga, i think the whole "no strategic purpose" narrative came from post-war propaganda by the generals who preferred a push for moscow

Tommy glitched out the troop spawn pp events by editing the div templates. so he was paying pp to summon thin air and didn't realise. he didn't notice to take the focus to cancel the winter debuff so this army was still freezing come spring. better luck next time.

From the historic standpoint. Stalingrad was attacked by Germany, not because it was named as Stalin, but because it was a industrial centre and main railway hub of central Russia. Also control of city meant that Volga river won't be available for transportation means, which also was huge, since majority of Soviet oil was going through Volga.

It was still a secondary objective to the Maikop Grozny and Baku. Hitler made a bad decision to attack split army group south into two. Especially because he ordered it so late before Case Blue began

A battle of the bulge scenario would be dope

When I played this mod as Germans I took until 1945 to defeat the USSR. I had to develop modern tanks and air to push them and reform my infantry to hold the line. It was hard and I got pushed many times, lost many divisions and wanted to call it. In the end I defeated them. For me It's a good mod. I enjoyed playing it.

Stalingrad was not an unimportant objective for the Germans. It was a major railway hub as well as being situated on the confluence of the Volga and Don rivers. Its strategic importance was as great as its Symbolic Value. The big mistake the Germans did in Stalingrad was to attack it directly instead of surrounding it. The German army was very good at fighting in open terrain and could have probably taken the area around Stalingrad alot easier than they could take the city itself. Surrounding it would more or less achieve the same strategic benefits as taking the city although the Wehrmacht is likely to have been forced to conduct a long siege before they could seriously advance further south. Even if they get stuck for a year besieging Stalingrad that would still block shipments coming up the Volga.

Doesn't matter though, the goal was to cut the Volga at *any* point, take Astrakan, form a blocking line on the river and then strike into the Caucasus. Sure, taking it would help with supply, but you would need to take the tracks *east* of the Volga which definetly was not included in the order. It even says in Führer Directive 45 that it would be enough to bring Stalingrad under fire of heavy artillery, other than that it was barely mentioned.

@@Oll1000 Leningrad had rougher terrain around it where fighting was as unsuitable for the Wehrmacht as in the city itself. Lake Ladoga also made a complete surround impossible. I dont think they have much chance of succeeding no matter their tactics but the german army would probably fare better in the steppes around Stalingrad than in the city itself.

You made the same mistake as Hoth's 4th panzer army, took to long to break the Russian defences on the south mainly since its a hilly terrain. That army was crippled badly (lost valuable time before winter) that only the 6th army on the north was actually achieving much success. Kinda ironic that you also achieve the same success as Paulus in real life, that it was the 6th army that arrived first before even Hoth's 4th panzer army.

mods like that that focus on specific battles are amazing. It's too bad only like 6 of these mods exist. I'd like to see entire rewords that "zoom in" om specific campaigns like a whole Africa campaign on the scale of this Stalingrad mod, or a Guadalcanal.

I would love to see a 3v3 map of the Eastern front. One GER player for each army group (north, center, south) and one SOV player for each front as well. Mainly, I would love to see it be a larger scale kinda like this one, obviously not that large though.

Stalingrad wasn't artificially important. It was a supply and communications hub and had docks on the Volga. Without it, the Germans wouldn't have been able to logistically support a drive to cut off the Caucasus.
