Those are like what’s on an old VW swing axle boot. Didn’t know how to crimp them back then, good to know though. Oh come on, could’ve added a segment on what Casey drinking. 😁 Cheers Casey 🍻🍻

I’ve never really worked on a VW, Ron. Kind of a glaring hole in my skillset. My mom has one, and I’m hoping to mess with it one of these days… And…😊 😂🍻🍻🍹👍🏼🤷‍♂️

I love reusing old stuff though. It’s like the challenge of being frugal when you don’t have to be. Kinda binds me to those of the greatest generation who did have to be. The “disposable mentality” can be frustrating once one becomes a collector and sees how rare true originality is. As the great philosopher Skip Knot reminds us, “Knew is not ‘best’!”. I found two similar but reusable tinnerman clamps failed in this year’s plane annual inspection last week. One on the crank case ventilation hose and one on the pitot tube(air speed) hose. Neither a big deal and neither likely to cause an issue. The old clamps are getting harder to find and I like to be original up to the point of life and limb. Many set that bar a lot lower than I do but I’ll take and use their outdated tech with pride! Keep on working, friend!

The “disposable mentality”, in my opinion, is a large part of the reason we are in our current mess (literally and figuratively). So, amen, brother! What made those clamps fail your annual, just out of curiosity?

@@crazycaseyscustoms Not sure. They were just loose when I looked. They are likely WWII stock. IIRC the one on the breather tube was missing the last tab so likely just vibration. The pitot clamp is just in place but loose. Still there as it's not going anywhere.

Hello Casey. Do you need a specific shaped pair of pliers to crimp them? (I suppose I should google it!) Thanks Mart. As I’m sure you discovered, the pliers are a special type of deal, which I have purchased, though now that I have them in hand, the end nippers would have also worked. I like the clamps, and intend to use them, in common sizes, on other projects. As for those multi-size deals, I struggled to find them listed, but eventually stumbled upon similarly designed CV boot clamps that supposedly fit a variety of sizes, so I have those as a fall-back. Thanks for posting the link…I was completely unaware of those prior to watching that video.

Heck yeah reuse it. Because the clamp you buy today will be cheaper made than the clamp you bought yesterday. Welcome to the diminishing of our stuff [by design].
