Bonus points if you can tell me the tuning I used here. Working on content for the legends on my Patreon this weekend, tabs and tutorials etc but I thought I'd throw this quick little vid out for you all here. The designs for my Post-Punk troll t-shirts are up on Patreon if you want to make them for yourself at home! Check it out. Sounds like New Order xox

@@TheVioletBunny Amen to that, man. Every riff I write lately is basically a Johnny Marr/ John McGeoch inspired series of arpeggios on guitar and a Peter Hook/ Andy Rourke-esque bass line to make it really stand out. I'm by no means a bass player, but I have one for the specific purpose of trying to make my sound as alive as possible. Simple bass parts might work better in some places, but it definitely deserves its share of the spotlight when the time comes. Respect to all parts of a well-oiled machine.

@@DesmondDoom oh yea 100 % their most popular songs are remembered because if his riffs. Ian Curtis had a unique voice etc etc but what hook did by taking the bass and make it a lead adding in droning notes and interesting chorus effect in some songs, Keeping it simple but not plain and in the front. Dude was the driving force of the band as far as I’m concerned. The guitars in jd could have been left out all together and the songs still would interest people.

I strum my bass and pick rather aggressively, I really want to start a shoegaze band with bass being a lead instead of guitar. My pedals sound really cool and strumming chords on a bass gives a really fat and warm sound compared to guitar I think it could be cool

There were a few sh**g*z* bands that did Peter Hook lead-style full bass chords. Pale Saints, Drop Nineteens. I played in a band like that for a few months - a couple of their songs had a fast-strummed (think folk guitar but on bass) 4-string bass chord progression that was loads of fun to play but sure ground the ends of my fingers off. Then we did a superfast "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" where the bass line was an octave on strings 2 and 4 with a constant low E drone. Playing that with square-wound strings thru an overdriveable bass amp was so loads of fun, it was a giant rumble! It also frees up the guitars to do fun stuff, you can have 2 guitars doing 1-note Slowdive leads on top.

Simon Raymonde of the Cocteau Twins, played bass guitar with an over-hand fingerboard style, playing multiple string notes at the same time. Although he wasn't a guitarist, more of a synthesizer person, he's got the ability to play any instrument put in front of him. On their song "Pearly Dewdrops', Drops" is all based off of Simon's bass and unusual 1/5 and 1/3 scale treatments. I can't do that on my Cello ....??? I love to watching guitar players, while playing ― Fascinating.

Simon is a super producer and instrumentalist. For the Old Grey Whistle Test he and Robin Guthrie used each others' instruments for the sound/camera check for Lorelei. The BBC producers didn't record their proper performance and used the soundcheck recording instead. kzread.info/dash/bejne/eJakr5qOh7Lacbg.html He and Peter Hook took bass to another level, each in their own ways.
