The lack of government mandated paid maternity leave in the US is abhorrent. Parents and babies need ample time to bond with each other and the mother needs to recover from the ordeal of pushing an entire human out of her, for goodness sake! Honestly, most of the rest of the world has in place, good and proper maternity and even paternity leave measures; why can't the US do the same?

Us is a very money centered country, and it is heartbreaking to put career over anything, the mentality they push people towards is very de humanizing, at least to me. A properly paid maternity leave should be absolutely no discussion

I think the going back to work thing is more about inflation, cost of living, and housing prices. Back in the day up through the 70's or 80's, the wife/lady of the house could usually afford to stay at home and take care of things because the husband/other spouse was able to make a living wage. Also, many unmarried/no partner women are having children (now more than ever before), so it's only on one salary that the child/children are being raised. I'll stay out of the politics and just stick with facts

They were simply empathising with mums in the US that don't have access to the generous paid maternity/paternity leave that thouse of us living in countries with much stronger social security are able to take advantage of.

Love the advice about mom guilt. I struggle with this every day since the min my daughter was born. You have to give yourself grace and remember there is truly no perfect parent. Any mistakes you’ve made have already been made a million times before and there are a million wayyyy worse parents out there (unfortunately).
