My boyfriend and I are crested gecko breeders. This is going on our 2nd year. I would say some super HUGE points/investments to think about in order to make a LIVABLE wage. (We have 200+ geckos) -Housing (if you’re breeding/wanting to keep track of lineage you HAVE to have separate housing for each gecko) so it will take up a lot of room. Doable forsure, but the need for housing will grow as your business grows. And geckos multiply like crazy. -Food! We use ALOT of food. And add other things into the food to help our breeders put on weight. (Bee pollen, cricket powder) and this can be a hefty chunk of change as your collection grows. We spend about 200$ every 2 months on food alone. -PAPER TOWELS. This is another large expense to think of. Again, the more geckos you have, the more you’ll need. We buy bulk. If you are cleaning once or twice a week, this can also be a considerate expense. -SELLING PLATFORMS (we sell on morph market and have our own website) this totals almost 100$ a month for both of those websites. -Baby growth time, this can seem daunting because if you’re trying to single out a specific morph. It can take 2 or 3 GENERATIONS to perfect a morph. So in my opinion, you will want to buy really high quality geckos at the start. It’s hard to sell mediocre geckos unfortunately :( -Reptile shows (we do these SOMETIMES and gas, travel, table cost should be taken into consideration) -Social media! This is a HUGE one, you will need decent quality camera equipment to take photos of your animals, marketing is everything. We try to post once a day at the least to stay relevant. Social media takes up a huge chunk of our time. It’s may be the most important thing to your success honestly. Even after all these things, it is still worth it in my opinion, don’t make the same mistake we did at the start & get mediocre geckos then get stuck with a bunch of virtually unsellable geckos. Invest in your business and get NICE high quality geckos. We love what we do & I hope you got something out of this post ❤ good luck

You are one of the few reptile channels I consistently watch. Many of the channels I did watch were getting to be to repetitive

I breed crested geckos. I just have a pair rn but I have 3 beautiful grow outs including a Lilly white. I produced 9 with some trail and error/dumb gecko behavior. I had no problem selling them. It’s all about marketing and a beautiful tame baby! I would love to see some more videos like this!

Great video! Decided a while ago to breed crested geckos only for my own project because of how many capable breeders are out there. Chose to focus an a reptile that needs more human help then one that everyone loves. Thank again for the amazing content!

I agree, but just like with ball pythons morph/demand is varied between them. Axanthics or monochrome for instance sell like hot cakes and for $6000+ at that

It's a saturated market and the ones that aren't breeder quality will end up feeder lizards!! Sad to say but way to many people breed them and think they are going to make big money!!

I just seen this post can someone answer a question so say you have a adult female and u breed her to a male and u get a male baby when the baby grows up can u breed it to its mother?

No you should not do this. This can result in genetic defects in the baby’s and can lead to short life span

This is called line breeding. I think when a new morph is discovered, line breeding is more common just bc there aren’t many geckos around with the new morph. Over time, line breeding is discouraged once a morph is established. In general, you wouldn’t want to keep line breeding like that bc this is definitely how defects come about. On a side note, line breeding is also very common in rabbits. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Havnt even started the video; but might I add a comment. If you enjoy the hobby but want to make money; it’s not for you. If your intrigued by them and are very passionate about what u do; then no matter if it makes good money or not u should do it.
