I can't believe that I spent 100s of hours playing the PS3 & PS5 Demon's. and never realized you could kill the birds in 4-1. I mean you could kill the stingrays in the sky so why wouldn't you be able to kill the birds. I should've realized this. it's 2021 and I'm still discovering new things about Demon's, a 2009 game. that's really cool honestly

Here's the thing. You said a "jackdaw is a crow." Is it in the same family? Yes. No one's arguing that. As someone who is a scientist who studies crows, I am telling you, specifically, in science, no one calls jackdaws crows. If you want to be "specific" like you said, then you shouldn't either. They're not the same thing. If you're saying "crow family" you're referring to the taxonomic grouping of Corvidae, which includes things from nutcrackers to blue jays to ravens. So your reasoning for calling a jackdaw a crow is because random people "call the black ones crows?" Let's get grackles and blackbirds in there, then, too. Also, calling someone a human or an ape? It's not one or the other, that's not how taxonomy works. They're both. A jackdaw is a jackdaw and a member of the crow family. But that's not what you said. You said a jackdaw is a crow, which is not true unless you're okay with calling all members of the crow family crows, which means you'd call blue jays, ravens, and other birds crows, too. Which you said you don't. It's okay to just admit you're wrong, you know?

holy fucking shit, those Demon's Souls birds are the legendary Double Hawk. i thought they were only in the imagination of comedian Demetri Martin, who presented that normal creatures become mythical when you add wings to them...but what about a hawk?

The DS3 ones seem to lack the nasal bristles (the patch of feathers extending into the beak) that are typical for corvids. So they are either nearly adult rooks (they loose their face feathers when they mature, beak shape fits too) or non-corvid passerines like the cracticines (currawongs, butcherbirds, australian magpies).

As we all know, Armored Core: Last Raven released in 2005, thus canonically presenting the end of all ravens in FROMSOFT games. What we see in the Soulborne series are not actual ravens, but rather psychic manifestations of our desire to have a new Armored Core game, and this is why they cannot be harmed.

Actually ravens and crows "share" the same genus called Corvus. Theres no particular raven or crow per say, in the genus of ravens and crows theres multiple kinds, most of the time humans refer to the Corvus corax when they speak of ravens/crows
