Can You Grow Ranunculus in Crates?! A Look At How We Do It

I've always loved ranunculus! And seeing pictures of ranunculus in bloom- well, that was one of the things that really drew me to growing flowers in the first place...
...But for years I avoided growing ranunculus myself because I was so intimidated.
This year we're finally giving it a try! In this video, I'll take you behind the scenes with me as I show you how we're growing ranunculus in crates.

    Thanks for sharing Britney! They look great! I am growing ranuncs for the first time this year in my raised beds in SE GR. Out of 20 corms only about 12 look good with buds and some blooms. I’ve harvested 3 beautiful blooms but the stems are short (4”) even though I ordered them from a reputable grower and they should be taller. Maybe our super cold spring? So many factors but I love these and hope to have success eventually. Love seeing the progress of yours.

    Awe thank you! I agree, there are a lot of factors that go into it- which can make it hard to troubleshoot. I'm happy that you're having some success though. Even if they're not quite how you imagined them, the fact that they're blooming must mean you're doing something right!

    Great video! I just received an order of ranunculus and am going to try them in crates. I'm afraid it's too late in the season to just be starting them (zone 4b) when my other ones are in the ground, but I'll give it a whirl. Hoping you'll show us in upcoming videos, but I'm curious what varieties you have and if you ordered from any non-wholesale places. Always on the lookout for new sources! Thanks

    Good luck! I hope yours turn out! I'm hoping I'll be able to show some good results in an upcoming video. This year I planted Amandine Pink, Juliette, and Marshmallow. The pictures of these varieties look beautiful so fingers crossed something blooms! I wish I could be more helpful in offering sources, but these corms, I did purchase from my wholesaler. This being my first year growing them, I've never purchased them non-wholesale. I do follow a lot of more experienced flower farmers on Instagram/social media and a lot of them do offer bulb and corm sales in the fall- I'm betting someone like that would be a great source for smaller quantities of corms!

    @@twosistersflowerfarm Thank you! You're right, I have seen Flower Farmers mention sales. I should start a list so I'm ready when fall rolls around and I can be on the lookout for corms then. Looking forward to seeing your beautiful flowers bloom :)

    I hope it worked well for you! I was really happy how well mine flowered! I will take them out of the soil soon. While I don't have plans to grow a summer crop in them, I am going to try forcing tulip bulbs this winter and I will be using these crates to do that :)

    I am trying to find an answer online but cannot, are you able to just grow them to full maturity in the cell tray? Do you have to transplant? T.I.A. !

  • @twosistersflowerfarm

    @twosistersflowerfarm

    11 ай бұрын

    In my experience, I don't think growing them to full maturity in the cell tray would allow enough space for root development. I think you'd be much better off transplanting them.
