To answer your question, they do make water closets that have a 3" trap. Pressure assist water closets are over rated. Way too over ingeneered and very finicky. Toto makes the best water closets hands down. Pricy for sure but they can handle all the crap you can throw at it. Your friendly plumber.

I concur with the Toto endorsement he makes; I installed a Toto 1 gallon and it is incredible. For example, I flushed probably 2 quarts of old cherry pie filling down the toilet and my Toto flushed it ALL with one flush!

Toto is an excellent manufacturer of thrones . Gerber does good for basic but dang reliable. American standard ... I mixed about . The champion 4 toilets do flush well but parts are hard to come by and very pricy .

At around 6:40 you can see the tiny channel at the top of the exit trap. What's the name of this finger sized tube and what's the purpose and what does it do? How can it be open on both ends and not let sewer gases out. Do you think it's closed on the upper end? I see water running into it or out of it but when they have the clog part later I can see little air bubbles go up into it and disappear so I wonder where they go?

@@1weirddoe571 to me that seems to possibly be part of a casting or molding process. Maybe it's the way they pick them up and move them around as they bake them in the ovens. Not sure why that's there. I say that because in the tank there is no serviceable part for that feature. Even after Plumbing for 24 years I will have to go to my supply house and show them what you found out. I'll repost if I get any new information. Nice catch. And remember American Standard... Made in Mexico.

@@77Infidel, great thanks. I was just pump irrigating mine to unclog the rim holes and I don't want my vinegar to go down this hole and be wasted. I cannot imagine where the little air bubbles go because that would let sewer gases into and out the rim holes. I'm confused.

What a cool experiment! I was always wondering about this because of the toilet that I saw in the grandparents house exhibit at the children’s museum in Boston, Massachusetts back in the 1980s. Half of it was cut away to make part of the house look like it was under construction Or show the unseen parts of house construction. After seeing that, I always wondered if half a toilet could be flushed.

Very accurate guys. Good job. I have done this same experiment to many different toilets. You did it correctly. Others have not. 2 points: A.) Brownies are not suitable. You would scream in agony if you tried to pass brownies. The standard test uses miso paste. It is called the MaP test which is now part of ASME A112.19.2/CSA B45.1. B.) Drop the test media 6 inches from the seat holes, about the middle of the sump (near the jet). You dropped it where a little toddler would sit. Trapway designs balance many different features from gravity, water consumption, ceramic glaze, manufacturing, patents, and efficiency. Features might seem counter intuitive, but every feature exists for a well defined and researched reason. Its just a matter of which brand emphasizes which features and to which end as there are trade offs. As a note, and you pointed it out: a cut in half toilet will not function as well as a full toilet. The dynamics of the plexiglass interfere with full proper function. But seeing inside is valuable. Finally, not in my wildest nightmares would I believe I would engineer toilets. I should be out in front developing throttled rocket engines. But toilets are rewarding because we have to do so much work with so little energy. It is a gigantic highly challenging engineering puzzle; taken for granted till it doesn't work.

5:55 I'm no plumber, but having a larger down pipe makes sense to me. If I get a clog in my toilet, I'd know that it'd be located within short snake distance reach within the toilet, and not "who knows how far down the pipe?" distance

How does the smaller hole near the top of the exit channel work? Try plugging it to see what it does or doesn't do, please. Is it a vacuum that helps pull or suck?

The trap is also a bell siphon. It’s a type of siphon that self starts when the flow and level is right. So the “flush jet assist thing” is to push the water level over the start point of the siphon and suck all the water out.
