Well, what I'm hoping to use it for, is not to watch movies, but for the OS DVD to reload my OS on my PC. Will that work?

it will work as long you have another pc to download the os onto the dvd
doesn't just the right cord connect a DVD/CD player to a computer? why does one have to have that box connector?
