Can You Build Muscle with Low Testosterone? 💉🤔

The topic of testosterone and hormone replacement therapy (i.e. TRT and HRT) is a hot topic these days. And it's causing a lot of guys to question whether or not it's still possible to build muscle with low testosterone levels...
After all, what's the point of even going to the gym and working out if your hormones are not as high as they once were?
Well the truth of the matter your testosterone and hormone levels are just one part of a much bigger picture. Granted it's a big part, but not the only part...
Your diet, exercise, and lifestyle habits are still the main things that will determine if you make progress with building muscle and losing fat.
In this video we'll break it down into more detail and outline the key strategies that you need to focus on in order to maximize your health, fitness, and physical performance - regardless of your testosterone levels.
Now with that being said, if you are over the age of 40 and concerned about your hormone levels, then it would be a good idea to get them checked. One clinic that a lot of my coaching students in the United States have used for blood work and hormone replacement therapy is www.iamhrt.com

I was on TRT for about five years. Diagnosed at 60 with low T (190 when normal for that age was between 300 and 1200). The TRT increased my testosterone levels to about 700, which was fine for me. I wanted the lowest effective dosage which is what I got. Unfortunately after about five years, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Now according to my urologist and my endocrinologist, I did not contract prostate cancer because of the TRT but the common wisdom still today is that elevated testosterone levels will exacerbate existing prostate cancer. So long story short, I had to stop the TRT4 years ago. I did radiation treatment for the prostate cancer and they brought my PSA way down where thankfully it is right now and hopefully will stay. However my testosterone level plummeted once again. Not quite as low as when I started but down around 300 . I should note that I am not taking anything to lower my testosterone which is common treatment for prostate cancer. I’ve been working out since I was 15 years old so it’s been over 50 years. I decided I was not going to Baby myself and I was just going to continue going to the gym and doing the things I was doing and the things I knew would work. At this age now (I’ll be 70 next year) I’m really not expecting to put on muscle to any appreciable degree. Given that I’ve been doing this for so long and the other issues that I’ve already mentioned my goal is basically to maintain what I have going forward and hopefully require a slightly larger than normal coffin when the time comes 😉. So far, it’s been working. The way I look, the way I feel are all, as you said good enough consistently especially since “great“ even occasionally is probably off the table for me at this point. Sorry this is so long but I really think that having realistic expectations given our ages and whatever other conditions may be affecting us is absolutely crucial in the mental game that is a huge part of bodybuilding and strength training. You can build and keep muscle even with low testosterone and even if you have cancer like I do. Don’t give up .

@@midnightwonderer4867 find another doctor or go to a TRT specific clinic. Most GP s don’t know their asses from their elbows when it comes to TRT…or diet…or exercise…

You absolutely can! Mine has been between 200-300 since age 30 and more muscular than most of the guys on testosterone and steroids at my gym. I've had 4 urologists and they are always confused about how muscular I am vs my #s. I do, however, have erectile dysfunction, insomnia, and mood swings because of it.

Very good video. Jumped on TRt and its not doing anything for me outside of gym. Only reason Im staying on is fear I will lose gym gains. Been on for 6 months and feel like there is no point in working out with low T

Thanks for sharing. This brings up a good point because hormone replacement isn't a magic bullet like a lot of people think it is. If you have "normal" testosterone levels you're not going to feel different. It's all the other elements of fitness and nutrition combined that lead to improvements.

I’m 24, with t around low 300s. I have been high intensity weightlifting for 3 years and barely made muscle so I think it’s essentially impossible

@yer9105 that is certainly low for your age. But it doesn't mean progress is impossible. Most people who have a most people who have achieved a big muscular physique have worked consistently for years in order to build their body. In my case it took me over 5 years of progressive training in order to "look like I worked out". You need to persist through and refuse to quit. To help you with this I recommend that you check out the podcast episode that we did at: kzread.info/dash/bejne/k2R-uJlwiNfVndI.html

It's great and all, but the amount of effort that it takes for me to be consistently good is way too high. Like I need to be eating 1800 calories and working out 1.5 hrs to see about a pound of weight lost, and I would assume that's muscle mass. I don't have enough time outside of the gym to recover anymore, I'm not a student anymore like I was when I successfully was losing weight and feeling better about myself. I'm 30 and my T is 150-200. I've been consistently eating better and working out more for the past year. My body scans and my weight and strength barely budged.

T levels? To be honest, I've NEVER known what they were/are. And have rarely concerned myself there. Sure, as I've gotten older I've FELT the loss. In my late 60s almost 70 I certainly cannot lift what I could in my 40s-which was a peak for me. It's also hard to increase strength. I've been working on my bench for over a year now and I MAY have addded 5+ pounds (perhaps 10 lbs, hard to tell) to my MAX, lol. I could add that in a couple of weeks in my 40's. For those interested I can now lift about 60% of my MAX at 40 something which was my peak strength. And I expect that to decrease as I hurl toward my 80s in the next decade or so. It's a losing battle, and all you can do is fight it. I am reminded of the story of Beowulf, who achieves great fame in killing the monster in his youth, and dies fighting its mother in a final battle as an old man (older). You fight your monsters until you die, that's all you can do and it's a worthy enterprise. Sure, if I live to be 90 I'll be in the gym lifting those 10 lbs dumbbells and not much more, but that's better than barely being able to walk or get out of a chair, no?
