I think you should do a mini spin-off where Shanice Shanice is ruler of Willow Creek. You can make it interesting, even though it would revolve around a $5 kit with exterior items only 💀

I think it should be pointed out that this is not a medieval castle. It's if anything, an early modern castle. Medieval castles were primarily built for defensive purposes and it's quite hard to see how this castle would be effective defensively. Modern castles, such as these, were built for aesthetics and projection of power. When people think of "castles", it's usually these luxury palaces they think of rather than medieval castles. See the Neuschwanstein Castle, built in the 19th century, for reference.

I learned the other day that they did have handmade soaps in the Middle Ages and were a lot cleaner than we think because public bath houses were popular.

Also, public bath houses were sorta a necessity. 99% of the medieval population didn't have room in their houses to have bathing areas... Personal bathing was really for the royals and nobles.

Medieval counters where actually just tables set against a wall, some times, with some open shelving under them. Sinks where self standing with hand pumps to get the water. For the bath, you should use the one the Sims can make on the wood working bench. Need to enable debug items to place it in that build. The most realistic would be an oversized wooden bucket.

There is a sims user named Architectrix, who's probably an IRL architect, who made some years before this kit even came out. They were very accurate ones complete with crenels, merlons, and machicolations. Only base game were used for the castles and the furnishings were from Get Together.

Using the medieval kit with the base game you wind up with a castle that looks like it was renovated during the Victorian period or Edwardian period or one of the many faux-medieval castles built then.

10:10 The suits of armor now are to represent what would have been guards standing watch, but castle guards wouldn't have worn full suits of armor, they would've worn chainmail and an open faced helmet and they would've had some type of polearm as a weapon for forward attacks because medieval castles were actually designed to be mazes with tightish hallways and stair cases that bottleneck large forces... All designed to defend the main tower and the throne room

They had soap in medieval times lol. Its a misconception medieval people were dirty. They werent. They had soaps and even toothpaste. They also wore a lot of linen that would soak up sweat and dirt, keeping the body clean and free of bad smells. Its not till the Rennisaince (not sure on spelling lol. Forgive me lol) in the 1500s when people started to stop bathing, and that was because the water was so dirty, too dirty for people to believe it was safe to bathe. So they would wash up much like, um...fun girls...if you know what i mean lol...in a bowl, and again...linen. It wasnt all bad in medieval times.

A lot of the staircase clipping is a problem that EA needs to solve...but to get rid of the railing that's dividing the staircase in two, just use a platform, a wide staircase where you have two side-by-side, and multiple staircases where you have one bending.

lilsimsie made a build with this shell and turned it into a wedding venue, it looked really good. like an old fancy church. in my game i didn't use the shell, but i built a medieval castle on the von haute estate lot in windenburg. i tried to make it as historically accurate as possible in the sims 4, like only having 1-2 bathrooms and having a dungeon and having exterior defense walls with ladders for "guards" (i just put telescopes). the von haute estate is really the best place for this because of the gardens on the property with a wedding section and because its MEANT to be a historical house with modern necessities. so it makes sense to have some historical inaccuracies and you can fill up space with plaques

  • @thevirtualtraveler

Actually basements (and servants working in them), are more of a late 19th century thing. Pre-industrial revolution, basements would have been way too expensive and very impractical. The had root cellars; smoke houses; separate buildings for kitchens, so if the kitchen caught on fire, it wouldn't burn the whole castle; and laundry was an outdoor activity.

A person would need to waste a little, but there is such a thing as using an extra paper towel to shut off the faucets in restrooms. Also, I imagine that the 8 second rule probably applies to faucets too, and even if they're still wet from the previous user, you're going to be drying your hands soon. It's too bad that all restrooms can't be touch-free automatic, but those are probably expensive.

People had buckets of water in kitchens. They didn't wash their hands much though... Also, as for the lack of soap thing: everybody stank, so people probably just sort of... got used to the smell 😅 castle forts also often had like basically toilets with chutes that led down to the moat, so yeah... smelled lovely. Some invaders would actually climb up the toilet chutes and stab people up the bum to death. The more you know eh 😂😂

I'm currently doing this shell challenge myself, but I'm not restricting myself. I've found I'm using a ton of base game stuff, namely a lot of things that mention Princess Cordelia. In the description of the lot, it says she owned this castle. Elsewhere in the game it says she was into pirates and submarines so I've been keeping that in mind.

Soap is an old invention, I think they did have an older version of soap in the medieval times, but they used a bowl of water to wash their hands mostly on the outside though, not so much in the kitchen. Just to make it easier for themselves.

We can build the more modern ones like the one you seen in Downton Abbey and such, but a proper one need vampire and get together at least.

7:27 It's close though. That personal baths would've been made of wood like an oversized barrel or it would've been made out of metal with a small fire underneath to keep the water hot. Porcelain was not a thing.

8:55 The servant's quarters would be in the basement or the bottom floor in the back, also the kitchen would be in the bottom floor or the basement in the back and all the food would be carried up to the feast hall or the throne room.

Medieval toilets should be in another building especially if it's not some royal person. Mostly it would probably only ever be like a small build made of wood and then a wood toilet with a hole in the ground.

It's a neogothic Victorian castle, not a medieval one - crenellations are purely decorative and it doesn't have even a hint of a moat. The outside part is wrong even for a 19th century castle; if you have only one entrance there should be a (hopefully long) driveway ending in a circle in front of the terrace. And you don't have to put much inside anyway; if it's not a royal or National Trust castle they've had to sell off all the good stuff anyway.

1:23 Are we doing new castles or old castles? Old castles normally had the stairs inside the towers because the middle spaces of the main floors were heavily utilized.... Or the stairs were off to the side of the main floors.

  • @SimWithMishka
    @SimWithMishka5 ай бұрын

It is possible to make the staircase without the railing in the middle by using a platform. You place the platform and raise it up a few ticks. Then place a double staircase leading from the floor to the platform and then from the platform to the next level you can place the staircases heading in opposite directions 😊

Fun Fact: washing hands wasn't a thing until 1847 when Ignaz Semmelweis, a Hungarian doctor, realized it was helpful with staying healthy. When he said this though people clapped back and put him in a mental asylum. He died of sepsis from the injuries he got from the beatings of his attendents.
