Blaine switching out a frozen parasect to sweep with a chansey you can't freeze makes me believe he did in fact obtain a degree worth the lab coat. The fact that he still lost makes me believe a lot has changed since that degree

It couldn't be Frozen because the Sleep Clause affect freeze status to basically what that means is only one person can be asleep or frozen so one Pokemon can be asleep and another can be frozen but two cannot be asleep and two cannot be frozen

Can't wait for the fighting type verison of this or the tower challenge.

For these challenges, if stadium 1 has similar logic to stadium 2, the other pokemon in your party influence what they pick. That could be a good strategy for messing with the logic if you're worried about certain pokemon like Dugtrio.

AI in stadium 2 also knows which moves you have, even down to which hidden power you are running, a bit silly, but it is what it is.

Just get the enemy Pokémon to hit themselves 8 turns in a row. So simple.

Explosion is underrated, its your best play against psychic types and chansey. Enjoyed watching it though, and you are quite right, substitute is amazing.

This was a cool challenge! Are you planning on doing other types? Because I'd love to see that! Also, I appreciate the context text to let us know what things were cut or what is being discussed. Thanks for including that, editor! ^_^

If you want an actual challenge do it on the Switch version of Pokémon Stadium. I have played it myself but I’ve heard Nintendo decided to remove the Transfer pack Feature from the Switch version.

Using imported Pokemon make this way less of a Challenge.

You probably already knew this but depending on what nickname you give your pokemon they might have an alternate color for example naming Mewtwo twomew or mew-two gives diff colors

I remember way back in the day my friend had a more blueish Mewtwo but mine had a more pinkish shade.

I love the idea of Lt. Surge’s Ace being Wiggly-Woo, and then you fight Erica’s gym right after 😂

Those speed stat based gen 1 crits are nuts... Dugtrio is a menace.

I like how “illegal” moves are in purple, but they still have animations. Mewtwo has an animation for fly that is pretty cool.

SUPER enjoyed this one. Hope there's some more stadium here and there in the future

I find it funny to read some of the chat messages. One of them said "good old gen 1, the only type effective to psychics is weak to them." I find this especially funny because, even if we ignore the fact that the only ghost types are also poison, and the only ghost move without set damage is lick, ghost type moves just flat out don't effect psychics in gen 1 - even if shadow ball were in gen 1, they wouldn't effect them, and even if it did, it would use gengars physical attack. Ghost is such a meme in gen 1, yet it's still good just on the fact it's immune to normal.

That's in large part because Normal types are OP in Gen 1. STAB Hyper Beam that doesn't recharge if it kills is just way too strong.

@@doopness785 gengar is just outside the top 10, but it is certified highest tier. It's main features are the immunity to normal making it a good switch in on body slams and hyper beams, a perfect switch in for self destruct and explosion, and being the fastest pokemon with a sleep inducing move in OU. However, being immune to hyper beam isn't as good as rhydon resisting it, as the opponent won't have to recharge after using it on gengar.

I did this same challenge a few years back! Except I did Round 1 and I only used rentals. I had so much fun doing it, and I hope you do too. Beating Lance in Round 1 with only the Fire-type rentals was probably one of the hardest challenges I've ever had to do in a Pokemon game and I was so proud when I did it, I had to use insane strats to manage it!

I recommend nicknaming the Pokemon for this challenge. Names affect coloring in Stadium, and I think it would be cool seeing off-color Pokemon.

@@doopness785 Huh, it appears my reply might not have been sent. People have figured out the ranges of hues and approximately how the nickname, trainer name, and trainer ID factor into the hue. If you search you can find it online.

I know it counts as doing a poison run but I'm almost sad there won't be one since I think gen 1 has some neat poison types. Of course, with how much work this was I don't blame you at all for not wanting to do that haha This is such a cool challenge too. I love seeing people do challenges with the first two stadium games. Absolutely fascinated to see what the bug run is going to look like considering gen 1 bugs are uuuuuuh hmmmmmmmm

Steel types next! So just Magnemite and Magneton... And they arent even steel yet so a lot less defenses... Man that would suck.

I knew this would be a fun but doable challenge since I'm doing the gym leader castle with random rental teams and every time I get 1 or more of the ghosts I cream my pants.

That Gastly section with Sabrina is my experience when an opponent confuses me :c

Its interesting that it only checks if the move exists in gen 1, and not that the pokemon could possibly know that move in gen 1

obviously stadium types sounds amazing

I just passed the whole round 1 of stadium with a team ported from pokemon blue and yeah, it is not that hard but the RNG is a massive play here, whether the crit is against you (a kabuto in petite cup through 5 straight continues just oneshot my team through surf and double edge (both crit) as in the castle gym leaders the status problems are quite annoying

how have they not made a new stadium

i know this is technically also a poison run, but i think it would still be interesting to see this done with maybe a pure poison-type team! especially since poison is notoriously trash in gen 1, it could be an interesting challenge

MonoPoison is trash, but there are actually a bunch of really good poison Pokemon also. Tentacruel, Gengar, Victreebel are all great!

So i started pokemon back when it came out on n64. . . Hated it. It felt like nothing more than click Type advantage=win when to a 11 year old. I downloaded the emerald rom hack to kill time around a year ago and made it to the elite four and saw chesto resto for the first time and my mind was blown. After that got into the final months of SwSh VGC

Turns out sleep is a bit busted in Pokémon. Who knew?

Seeing as how the other three pokemon in the team are the only three dragon types in gen 1 does That mean Dragon is the next type you'll be doing this for?

I think simce you had sub up, the dugtrio didnt see a kill so it had a split chance between using a status or getting rid of sub and ai in pokemon love using status moves. That or it saw sand attack as super effective since its ground lol.

Why dont you give to Gengar this moveset against Chansey? Submission, Hypnosis, Confuse Ray and Ice Punch? Lol

I think that even if you are allowing Tradebacks, Bug is going to be one of the hardest(if not the hardest) since all of them have overall very low Special or they don't have coverage moves. You could always try to cheese with Stun Powder Moth/Butterfree + Guillotine Pinsir I guess tho

@@shadowtitanx3962 Nah, it will be hard but not impossible, they will rely on body slam para's a lot though, they still all have good attack stat and not all teams have max stats. Sabrina's and Rival's Alakazam might be the biggest wall for fighting, but if you get lucky you should be able to make it through.

You can use poliwrath with amnesia, it doesnt really do anything "fighting" related, but it is a fighting type. Has to carry the team, I think, its the best fighting type because it doesnt really function as one, yup, this is gen 1 alright.

This games ev investment is soo messed up lol gengar should never outspeed alakazam with nature and investment and I’m sure there was a lot more lol
