Can You Beat Fire Emblem While ONLY Using Engage Mode?

In this video, we find out if it's possible to beat Fire Emblem Engage on Maddening while only performing meaningful actions while our units are engaged with an emblem.
Why is this Challenging?
We only have 3 turns to engage with an emblem at a time and after that, we'll have to tank 7 hits from enemies. A huge problem with this is that some parts of the game limit us on our rings by having only a few units available, or of course not letting us use engage mode.
What is a 'Meaningful Action?'
Meaningful actions are any sort of ability a unit is able to perform that gives you EXP, this means I can do anything while disengaged so long as it doesn't grant us EXP. any action that would fall under the 'Idle Action' category is perfectly fine, however (Chain Guard, Missed Attacks, Arena EXP).
SIDENOTE: the Missed Attacks Idle Action is mainly there specifically for the 2 chapters I used it in, I also should mention that in older Fire Emblem games you'd gain exp even if you weren't able to attack at all.
Other Rules:
No DLC Emblems, they completely trivialize the challenge since you can get them so early on.
Maddening difficulty. I am doing this on the hardest difficulty because 'hard' mode was easy since you can actually grind for exp. (I did play hard mode and I was able to make good use of ALL my units (mainly Chloe, Anna, Panette, Kagetsu, and Jean if you were interested)

(this also might be the most difficult fire emblem challenge ever specifically because of how harsh the rules are on the most difficult mode.)

The holy stance sweep is genuinely one of the funniest things I've ever seen someone do in a video game. This run was crazy!

DUDE!!! mad props for doing this, and sticking through to the end....this was insane! 1000+ turns sounds nightmarish, but you did it!!! also, you totally didn't have to do this on maddening, i'm surprised that you felt obligated to since i considered playing hard mode as being Decent at fire emblem 😅 maybe we're just in different circles of fire emblem fans, lol... Also, I've never touched engage as it didn't really appeal to me, so seeing the story secondhand like this has been a. WILD ride tbh. What even is going on here????

Watched again, such a compelling challenge and very well presented. You did a great job of conveying all the most important information both on screen and through the narration. This was such a fun challenge to watch and it’s a shame it’s one of your less-viewed videos. Would love to see more of this mental strategizing kind of challenges.

I am trying to start a Thracia 776 challenge where I can’t kill any enemies, there may be another video like this at some point.
Nice to see the challenge finally done with! I would definitely be down to watch an FX run, but I can't remember if I told you or not that you don't gain any XP for the whole thing, meaning you might have to redefine what's doable while unengaged. I'm sure you'll find it out quickly though.

I'm definitely remembering these strategies for my next run! Even though I don't plan on only using engage mode lol. I think if you wanted to attempt the fell xenologue it would be really interesting, I'd love to see what crazy stuff you come up with! but it's already pretty difficult at max without the restrictions. Amazing video!

so true
if it counts i've done 5 challenge runs and the 2 i found the most fun were : ever single enemy must die in a single round of combat starting from chap where you unlock the abililty to forge and non-player units must kill all enemies ( basically veronic's emblem attack and the clones you get from lyn ) Also did allow the lyn user to attack so long as it was a basic attack because the clones would automatically back up attack was very hard but very fun the other 3 i did and werent as fun but were enjoyable beating the fell xenolouge with every enemy dying in a single round of combat enemy phase only ( which was alot of fun but very samey as you kinda win the same way every single map ) and lastly Boss kills only ( dont suggest this one since you need to start it from chap 9 onward as you cant really doit early game because of the way to maps are desgined and lack of emblems and requires the DLC emblems ) though it is alot of fun since you need to find a way to get to the boss without killing anyone on the way ( but you can hurt them to get exp )

@@Ansel_G i watched that today at work ( well... more listened but same thing ) was okay though a little disappointed it was done on birthright ( though with you saying youre only okay at fire emblem i fully understand as conquest enemy phase only took me around 150 attempts to beat )

Not gonna lie, I was surprised to see that you didn't used Celica's favorite meal, that replenish the Engage meter when eating a lunch, or at least I didn't saw that But I sure didn't expected something like the Holy Stance Sweep, that was really nice

Question; did you disallow DLC emblems? Because you could use Emblem Hector’s Engage Skill for 30% Def and Res as a hero, and or use the Rune Sword to heal while you fight with a 1-2 range in the chapter with “Dark Sync only”

I said at the start that they weren’t allowed. chapters without emblem rings would be much easier also

Or you could clear every map in 3 turns? Probably doesn’t apply to early game due to lack of emblems, but it’s possible afterwards

Yup, but the times we don’t have those 3 turns matter a lot. Especially when we have some maps that don’t give us emblems
