Can You Beat Armored Core VI with Only Explosives?

Ойындар

Having never personally stepped into the pilot seat of an AC, I felt a bit intimidated, but irrationally excited to take a swing at Armored core VI: Fires of Rubicon. Explosives are often fun in games in the general sense, and I found the tracking missiles to be extremely satisfying. If I can watch things blow up from the comfort of not having to aim? I dunno, I just think it's a lot of fun.
I am curious to see if this will spell more titles from the franchise in the nearish future, because it was a delight to play through. I'm not quite sure how I would revisit it, but it's one that I'd love to, because seriously. Once you get a good feel on the controls, it just feels so good to move and flow through combat. It's short enough to not overstay its welcome, but long enough that it's a wonderfully full experience. Would recommend. Unless you get motion sickness.

About Phase 2 Balteus, fire is counted as Explosive damage in the game. You can tell because Bad Cook and the Napalm Launcher have a little rocket symbol in the top right corner of their statblocks, which is how Explosive damage is indicated

@@SpuddyCube There's already a neat weapon in the game that would make a really easy reskin for the flame sword: the Oscilator. The basic attack dashes forward and slashes (though you could replace that with the pulse blade slashes, as they're a little more remeniscent of Balteus' style), but the heavy attack extends an energy beam out to an absurd length and sweeps it across not unlike a more focussed flamethrower. Lower the damage (and drastically lower the stagger damage) and make it inflict ACS abnormality like other flame weapons, and it would be a niche, but extremely fun, stagger assistance tool. Alas, I'm no modder, but I do enjoy theorycrafting these things. As for the Balteus missiles... maybe they could have multiple charge levels, firing 10 low, 15 verticle, or both at once depending on how long you charged it. Give it a total of 20 shots before overheating. When accounting for the heat dispersion between volleys this would give you 3 volleys uncharged, 2 charged, and only 1 at max charge. Couple this with a long overheat and prohibative weight and EN costs (let's be honest, they'd be huge), and you have the makings of a potentially balanced weapon. Damage wise I think they could do low damage and ACS strain, but with a high direct hit modifier to emulate the way Balteus' missiles mostly do scratch damage unless you get staggered and eat a full volley of them. Question is, what is the final weapon to use in the Balteus cosplay? His infamous rocket launcher, or the cheap shotgun he sometimes pulls out? Or do you just pack a Bad Cook as a close approximation of having a second flame sword?

All of these challenge runs in AC 6 so far either stop halfway or only go for a single playthrough, forgetting about NG+/NG++/NG+++, and skip out on a lot of additional content like new missions, gear, and endings. For example if you did a bit of scavenging around and collected combat logs, one of the last unlocks is a really cool handheld siege missile launcher, which fires a huge salvo of missiles that hover in the air for a while before starting to track the target. It's pretty strong, poses a good spectacle, and is very fun to use!

Vertical plasma are a lot easier to hit with, but verticals in general are better used in heavy cover with scans or against enemies that have to stop for something. The 12 shot verticals helped me crack one of the final bosses.

I just want to say: I know you love Borderlands, I do too, but especially given that in the past it seems that you've kinda railed against the idea of "I only do Borderlands challenges"...well, I say railed, but you just kind of calmly said "Hey, I'm not only Borderlands"...anyway, I'm trying to say I'd personally adore more FromSoft stuff, be it Armored Core or SoulsBorne, doesn't matter much, I love the vast majority of their work, and I have loved literally everything I've seen you do. I can honestly say I can't remember a single video of yours that wasn't a near immediate like, and a classic that I return to every now and again just because they are that frigging fun to watch. That aside, I also continue to hope that you don't hurt yourself, or burn yourself out, much less because of the loss of content (as much as I adore what you do, and how you do it, there _ARE_ other challenge runners, even if none of them would be able to actually replace you, so entertainment alone is covered), and much more because I REALLY don't want you suffering, especially not just so we can have something (admittedly great) to watch. Basically, just make sure to take care of yourself.

I really appreciate that! I'm glad that you enjoy them! Especially enough to watch them more than once. I tend to have a lot of fun with what I'm doing. Sometimes it's significantly harder than others, but I do my best to make sure I'm finding joy in what I do regardless, to prevent burnout. There are some changes I'd like to make, but nothing I can implement quite yet. In terms of Fromsoft, it's sort of a double edged sword. Their games are amazing, and they absolutely deserve the attention that they get. I'm a big fan! But with them being so popular, it can be really hard to conceptualize runs that haven't been done/done to death. There are some fantastic Soulslikes that I would love to do runs for that get a lot less love. It's not really the best in terms of algorithm stuff, but I quite enjoy the variety. I do absolutely enjoy coming back to Borderlands, even if only as a comfort thing, but balancing time is difficult. The age old issue of what I want to play vs what folks want to watch. Sometimes those line up. Sometimes they don't. Despite my better judgement, I'm fairly sure the next run is going to be a Soulslike, and one that I'm really excited to try out. I'm not sure how well it will/won't be received, but I've really enjoyed the short amount of time I've spent with it.

@@SpuddyCube ..hmmm, regarding the FromSoft popularity element, I can at least say that I haven't personally seen much of any content covering their pre-Demon Souls days. You could potentially do a little tapping of the Armored Core (pre-6) and King's Field/Shadow Tower mines...assuming of course that they actually interest you enough to play them, I can scarcely imagine how shitty it must feel to try and play games as obtuse as those (for a challenge run especially) without an interest to kickstart it all.

Oh, I would absolutely love to try the old King's Fields/Shadow Towers. They are going to be a bit harder to get into, and I'm pretty confident that they're not going to have a ton of wide appeal, but especially later into the series, they look really fun! When the new game releases calm down, I need to figure out how to load them up on newer hardware. I know there are emulation options, but I also have no real experience with that sort of software. And no, I can't really imagine even trying to play one of those games without at least a fair bit of interest in the weirdness that is King's Field.

I pretty much only use missiles, and it’s great! You learn enemies shot distances, then learn to stay out of reach with a jumping “dance” around them. ☺️ If you go with a light weight build, you can boost around super fast and very rarely quick boost or assault boost.

14:55 AC6 functions under the rule of cool. Doesn't matter how illogical it is, they make it so bad ass you don't care. Like, being launched by a rocket powered and what also looks like maybe even is a rail gun launcher, across the freaking ocean and crashing down into the snow? Totally unrealistic, totally bad ass. 20:13 he only abandons you if he takes too much damage. Obviously since you're doing explosives only I can't blame you for not using the boost kick, but it really comes in clutch with builds like this when you have that down time after firing your missile barrage and stagger your opponent.
