Can We Train Snake Discovery's Macaw to FLY?

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

We teamed up with Emily and Ed from ‪@SnakeDiscovery‬ and their rescue blue and gold macaw, Cheyenne, to see if we could train Cheyenne to fly from a surface other than a person (who needed to give encouragement to 'send' her to fly) and see if we couldn't convince her to take a flight all by herself! Could we do it?! Watch to find out!

    "Collaborating?" No, they're marketing, and this sort of thing, which they've been doing far too often, is way beyond a major annoyance. Find the other bird videos that are getting the most views, and then "collaborate" with them to market to an even wider audience.

Both channels I mentioned as well got the same treatment and education as a non KZreadr/ non quote unquote "famous person" so what's your issue? Once you get past those few times they pick up on stuff very fast though. Only difference is my dog will start doing other things i have taught her in an attempt to get a treat the "easy way" vs Cheyenne just chilling on the counter. I worked with her again, got her confident in 2 foot step up, kept doing it daily for about a month, then tried moving my hand slightly again & again total reversion & refusal, so yeh, I've just given up after persevering for SO long & not getting anywhere, but I really wish she would trust me enough that I could pick her up & move her around, or even have her sit on my shoulder. Where did you get the chest sweater. I have 2 Green Cheeks that pluck down to the down feathers. And I wonder if that would work as each pluck their chest and then they pluck each others back/neck feathers. We have tried everything under the sun including anxiety meds, $600 laser therapy, Pluck no more spray added to their water dish and on their feathers. Our oldest is also getting mean and when out, she will fly to you and rub her head on your face and hand, but then out of nowhere she will attack me and bite sometimes drawing blood. And if I grab her, she will chomp down on my hand.

    I am a dog trainer who desperately wants a parrot, and I absolutely LOVE watching your videos. It's fascinating to get to see the overlaps and differences in training a dog vs a parrot. Love how you explain the concept of pressure- and the absolute importance of finding the right pressure level and not over-doing it- to help push an animal into a behavior you want from them. Yay my two favorite channels collab :D I am glad that you helped Cheyenne, I know that Ed and Emily are amazing bird parents but everyone needs opinion from people like you from time to time, and training bird that is plucked so much and not so confident must be harder. I am sad that I can't bring Bruno to you, so you could meet him, but sadly I am from Europe so no way :/ But I am glad that I can ask you for your opinion through an e-mail. I am grateful for all the advice i've got from you, because even though I keep parrots for over 20 years now, I've learned so much with past 9 months with Bruno and watching your channel and few other channels. One most important thing, that changed how quick my quaker got used to me, apart from being hand fed, was the fact that you taught me that leaving new bird for few days alone to 'get used to new place' is stupid thing that results in bird being familiar with everything in the room except you. And of course I've learned few tricks how to remove pesticides from veggies and fruits - my biggest fear with giving grocery store food to my bird - and also you helped me to choose food for my parrot :D And yes, he now think that Hagen Harri pellets are treats and he accepts those as a reward, but Bruno is amazing, he accepts carrot/lettuce/pumpkin seed and other seeds/nuts as a reward, he also accepts voice as a reward, when I tell him 'good bird', he also, sometimes tell 'good bird' to himself when he do the trick. Thank you once more and awesome collab!

  • @Dovietail
    @Dovietail2 жыл бұрын

    To nonbird people, considering it progress that an animal begins to take treats rather than ceases to take treats as part of their training seems a step backwards. We consider a dog to have advanced when he doesn't look for the treat but rather for the praise when the behavior is correct.

  • @MrJdubz100

    @MrJdubz100

    Dogs are very different from parrots. Parrots for the most part do not care about pleasing people, it is not in their nature. Their attitude is more of “whats in this for me?” And so we offer treats. Its harder to train a bird that is not motivated by treats but it is possible if it is motivated by praise or affection.

    I read this “can we train a snake to fly?״ My Chako is 32 years old, and doesn’t transport by flying, his only flights off are when he’s spooked or over heightened. Doesn’t use flight intentionally. Just after cleaning up his his diet to completely natural diet, healthy and balanced, got him to do his first intentional hop (he was so enthusiastic about getting weighed on our weighing platform), I am always happy to see older parrots learn to use their body intentionally and be more physically active, it seems like diet can be a major part of the challenge apparently.

    I had never heard of you guys before watchibg SD’s video. Waow Dave was able to spot Cheyenne’s intricacies in her temperament that triggered her to fly ! So subtle to the untrained eye, yet it seemed obvious to you. Great collab

    Here is a video where they talk about her over plucking. I believe she will unfortunately not grow her feathers back at this stage. kzread.info/dash/bejne/gous07Ozj6mzYs4.html
