Can trust in the Met Police be restored with new recruits?
As part of National Apprenticeship Week, three Metropolitan Police constable degree apprentices have spoken to BBC London about their experience in the service.
PC George Zealey was a blind-fitter, but the 23-year-old is now fighting crime across west London after joining the Met. Former restaurant manager, PC Courtney Thompson, 24, says the force should be reflective of the communities it serves. And former semi-pro rugby player PC Victory Anyaoha, 24, wants to progress into armed response.
After police watchdog the IOPC published a report last week saying it had discovered "disgraceful" misogyny, discrimination, bullying and sexual harassment among some PCs in the Met, what do new recruits think of the force’s culture and whether they are part of change?

We need strong police officers. The amount of police that I have seen unable to arrest a criminal or being unable to defend themselves. Criminals are not scared of the police. That's one of the main reasons why crime is at an all time high in London.

Because they need guns
@TheLordHiggs

@Gritz™ not just that, because imagine giving weak officers guns. They wouldn't have the nerve to use it. In Hungary they have had 0 terrorist attacks in years. The military support the police in key locations like train stations and metro stations and can be seen in 3's walking around the inner city. The police also have guns, but you wouldn't want to mess with them, because they are strong officers

Having worked in uniformed and non-uniformed occupations, I have witnessed some individuals abusing their position of authority. As things stand, the police are given the benefit of the doubt, and the public are not. How can the public have confidence in the police, when the police investigate their own? All Metropolitan Police Officers should be reminded of the Peelian principle: “The police are the public and the public are the police.”

Agreed. I’m at the Recruitment Process for the police and when it comes to dealing crimes then that’s when I’m a police officer. But when it comes to individuals I come to them as a human being (uniformed or not) instead of my title. It’s not always needed to tell everyone that someone is a PC or not. That’s what some of the people in the force is currently thinking all the time and that’s how the power gets to their head so easily. And that’s why they lost their trust from the public. (Not the entire police force, there are still some that remained professional.)
Can't work out if these are actors, with police like this probably be worth being a career criminal lol absolute madness.
It's individuals and certain police stations that are at fault. The problems need to be dealt with, so please no more senior management who are political appointees like Cressida Dick.

People with this sort of attitude are the same people who make things harder and then complain later about it.
Its good that the designer law is being scrapped and ethics, rights and law is the front step now
The Metropolitan Police (and some other forces) need to make certain their recruits are fully aware that white British people are not the enemy and should not be treated as unimportant second class citizens in the context of their decision making.. In short there should be a determined return to Policing 'without fear or favour'
So many negative people in this comment section who instead of supporting change and development choose to speak negatively without any enthusiasm or willingness to even give them a chance to try and fix things and then later complain about it. You can’t say they’re bad but at the same time discourage fixing the problem.
Remember couzens in the met since 2018 The charing cross officers all young in service So don't make assumptions.
