Can this JLG Lift be fixed? Broken Controller Board Plus Hydraulic Repairs - Part 2 of 2

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Scissor lifts are such a useful tool that come in handy in so many situations, it's lousy when they stop working!
I'm trying to diagnose a few confusing issues on this JLG 1999 2033E lift which is owned by a friend of mine. I ended up taking it apart down to the control board, which seems to have an unusual failure! While trying to figure out what is wrong, I go through and repair a lot of issues; such as replacing hydraulic hoses, rewiring some of the electrical routes, and 3D printing some replacement components.
If you have a JLG with any of these issues, hopefully this video will help you diagnose & repair your lift, and get it back to tip-top shape!

How did you go about bleeding the hydraulic lines?

This is such a small unit that I didn’t bother. When the pump kicks on it pressurizes the manifold and then back into the tank. The lines were so short, I bet it happened almost instantly. The longer lines like drive and up and down, I just cycled a couple times. If there was a chance of running the pump dry for more than a few seconds, I would have been concerned.

solid determination, i probably would have quit when the control module wasnt doing the dance it was suppose to, cracking open circuit boards is a bit beyond me, solenoids, relays, grounds, powers, diodes, ect are all simple and easy to test to me but shrink it down to a board that fits in your hand and all of a sudden i find it too complicated have a JLG T500 im having headaches with currently had it to two seperate heavy equipment mechanics that say they specialize in lifts but neither have been able to fix it.. one charged me 335$ to replace an automotive style relay.. and the machine stopped working the same day they fixxed it getting code 9-9 which is mosfet circuit short circuit module failure.. the ignition relay gets incredibly hot within a couple minutes of key on im wondering if thats indicating a short circuit.. jlg made the wiring diagrams far more complicated than necessary by only making a single one for every possible option a t500 comes in which ranges from engine drive to battery powered, and tow behind to tracked self driven.. so theres piles of circuits, junctions, and sections of the diagram that dont apply to you, or part of them apply to you and part of them dont, or the same component is on the diagram in 4 different locations for how it interacts with different configurations you ever consider doing an answering service for trouble shooting? where people chuck you a few dollars to help them walk through a problem over messenger and give them idea's/info/trouble shooting instructions.. id love to test my sevcon module, its essentially a fancy 2000$ solenoid, it only has positive in negative in, motor + and motor - with a 4 pin control connection but part of that 4 pin connection is a can bus hi and can bus low, i dont really understand what theyre meant to supply in voltage or if its some kind of pulsing signal? how one would go about checking to confirm if those signals are properly incoming and the issue is in the box, or if those signals arent proper and the issue is upstream

Yes, I agree with you. Some of the new stuff you simply can’t diagnose. This was an older control board, so I felt pretty confident that I should be able to find the damaged components and then I got too stubborn to give up! I agree that the JLG manuals and diagrams are not great and could be a lot clearer. You are right, it does sound like a short. Mosfets can fail in a way that does short them out and if you can get to the pins you should be able to test them. As far as can bus, that is a pretty hard thing to diagnose. Can bus is like Ethernet. It is a communication protocol and you have to send the right series of commands to get the device to do anything. If you want, go to the about section on my KZread channel from a desktop computer and you can get my email address and reach out to me.

Hey great job on this one. I have a lift that I’m having issues with as well. I popped a resistor and a cap on the board. The charger went TU and shorted Anyway. I was wondering if you could send me a high res pic of the board and the values of the cap at C15 and the color bands on the resistor right next to it. They’re located on the side of the board opposite the plugs located by the center of the 5 lower capacitors.

I just bought a 2033e and I'm having similar problems. When I'm in lower control, the red led stays solid until I press the up or down toggle, then I get a 3-3 led code. Any recommendations??

So that same chip is probably blown on the controller. If you can open the controller up, you should be able to see right away if it is damaged or not. I was able to get everything working again and I linked to all the components you need if you have the same problem. The one thing that you might need is a new CPU and you will need someone who is an expert is soldering to swap that.

Great video! I am working on an old JLG ( I think ) I cant find anywhere to tell me what kind it is. There are wires hanging from the back. I have figured out they are for the up and down but idk what else they may work. I have tried looking for pics on line with no luck.

Does if have a controller like this? You should be able to find some ID somewhere on the unit. Maybe try and identify the pump. Some of these things should have data plates on them.

@@MakersAcres no it doesn't have a controller like the one you were working on. This one is relays and diodes. And maybe a power converter on the front. Just got started working on it. It has a JLG battery charger that looks factory. That is the only thing that has a name on it. I am messing with it right now. Hahaha

@@IamOpenMindedRU Well you have a better chance of fixing one without the smart controller so that’s good news. It would still be helpful to find a wire diagram. I just bought a 1980ish piece of equipment and I had to go to eBay to find parts and service manuals. But… they still existed. Just hard to find.

Ya, I think most companies just buy a new lift because the work I did would have probably cost more then one if you took it to a shop. I didn’t say this is the video, but you can send these boards off to a repair house and they charge you 700-1000$ to diagnose it, then repair fees on top of that. I really wanted to understand the root cause of this issue so I could fix things like this in the future. I learned a lot from this process, which I think is valuable.

I have the same lift and now the drive stopped working. It steers and goes up and down but does not go forward or back. The green indicator light on the joystick control box goes out as soon as I touch the joystick and I have to repress the button. I see a flash code of two flashes a pause then two more flashes. Also I have seen it flash five times pause and two more flashes. If you have any guidance I really would appreciate it, thank you.
