There are places that allow microwaves but not grills/stoves/hot plates/etc, college dorms comes to mind. This would've been perfect for my daughter if she was still in college. People should think of that before saying it's useless because you can make a sandwich, never mind a hamburger, on one of those devices.

We take waffles seriously in our house kzread.infoUgkxUfphIgghPSpAXNq6OG2WRYsFVqylcqMn and worked our old one through many years of Sunday brunches till it finally gave out on us. Our old one only made two at a time, this one makes four! Nicely sized 1 inch thick which are lovely! Now the kids don't have to wait as long to eat our weekly waffle breakfast and everyone's are hot if we wait and eat all together! Setting 3 seems to work perfect for golden brown. Be sure to pour the batter in the center of each waffle square, not the center of the iron like the novice that posted the scorched waffles photo. About a 1/4 to 1/3 cup of batter in each seemed to work well for us. We tested making just one at a time so we could use all the remaining batter and it made it just as fluffy and golden as when we made 4!

It possibly is metal. You can put metal in the microwave as long as you are sensible. Thin pointy metal causes electrical arcs (and potentially fire), whereas smooth, flat metal is usually safe. Great for grilled cheese and hamburger patties but I would also experiment with vegetables, especially those kids have problems with, in particular, the veggies we tend to boil to cook like: carrots, broccoli and green beans (all thinly sliced) . I have had the "ultra-wide" version of this grill for over four years and I use it weekly, if not daily. Actually, i have yet to make a grilled cheese sandwich in it. My go-to for that task is a Foreman grill, which basically turns out a fantastic panini. I use the microwave grill for them cheap (or at least they used to be!) frozen burritos, and it does a great job IF you butter them and pre-heat the grill. Also I bought a pair of oven mitt gloves, .i.e. with fingers, and it made the flipping process both effortless and burn-less! I also always put down a paper towel to catch any run-off. It does take some finagling to get good, consistent results, but having had a single grill plate before, I was used to that. I've had the best results with those great pre-cooked Johnsonville brats. Takes less time than the burritos, but the result is GREAT! Just a little char on them with a crackling skin. I don't fix those sausages or the burritos any other way! One caveat is that the non-stick coating is beginning to come off, but as anything I grill has sufficient fat on it, I haven't run into any problems with that.

This has a specific target audience in mind - college students and others in dorm-style living. I see the use in it, it would beat making microwave ramen noodles as the go-to easy meal. Hot pockets are getting too expensive, so this is a decent compromise, and I can see adding some pepperoni and a little sauce to the sandwich making a half-decent compromise. Obviously people with proper kitchen’s won’t have much, if any, use for it, but that doesn’t mean it’s a useless product. Think of it like an electric can opener, it’s made for a reason, and made well for that reason.

@@ShirlBussman I never thought to use butter. That's a great idea! When I was a kid, my mom made grilled cheese sandwiches for us using vegetable oil. So, I never thought to make them any other way. But yeah, whether you use butter or oil, it should be just an occasional treat. Fried foods (which is what it is) isn't healthy.

Bought one of these a couple years ago on Wish. It was called a My-Pro-Grill I think. As far as I can see it looked basically the same. Worked well for about a year but after a while I just couldn't get it clean any longer and got rid of it.

I would try making the grilled cheese without latching the sides of the gadget so it doesn’t mush the bread down.

Well I have to say, if you’re just in a hurry or feeling lazy and want a grilled cheese or hamburger, that seems like a good solution. Not everything has to be gourmet and this gets it close enough to good that it’s better than some other option. I’d like to try making a Cuban Sandwich in the big version.

Those little dash waffle irons (some come in a griddle form)- almost instant easy grilled cheese! It's a circle so kind of makers or small, but you can make 2. Also smashed but delicious and fast

I bought the same model a couple of years ago. The instructions said pre-heat 3.50 minutes but nothing about flipping. No dripping of cheese but I use sliced deli cheese not the individually plastic wrapped slices. Also have done burgers. Those drip so I put something under it to catch the juice.

I think some of the unevenness from the 2nd try was caused by the “straps” being clipped in at different lengths. Still seems to work decently well. Might have to get this

I recently ordered one of these from Amazon and can't wait to try it. I'm glad I found your video. The instruction manual has times to cook for salmon, asparagus, and mushrooms.😒 Yet the pictures on the box show chicken and hamburger. I got mine to make grilled cheese and to reheat fries from fast food joints. Fries are always cold by the time I get home. How long do you think it'd take for those?

It seems better than a whole separate appliance. I like it, especially the hamburger part. Maybe it will work for salmon and chicken as well. As a person who lives in an “in-law suite” and doesn’t miss the oven AT ALL, I’m intrigued!

OK I paused at the ending of the 3rd one, 1st I am seeing when you lock the sides in, that is what is causing it to cook uneven, one side of the bread smashes first, maybe if you just set the top on and do not lock it down, it might make them more even. And last, I make an amazing grilled cheese and I DO NOT butter the bread, I put the butter in a medium/hot pan, let it melt into a puddle and put the sandwich in the puddle of butter, once that side it done, I take them off the pan, melt more butter, drop the other side in the puddle of butter and once that is done, ENJOY!!

As someone else said, this would probably be great for dorms, or maybe even hotels, otherwise I'll stick to my good ole frying pan. The funny thing was as you were eating all those grilled cheese sandwiches I was thinking "Next on Freakin Reviews - How to unclog your 'pipes' (so to speak)" and then an ad popped up about constipation. 😆 Couldn't have been better timing.

5:22 for me, depends on the shape of the bread slice.... if it's square-ish, i tend to go diagonal; if it's more long or ovoid, like the 'artisanal' breads you get here, i go vertical (cut in half from top to bottom)

I would be currious if it would work as well if you did not latch the sides. I think that might correct the issue of it smashing the sandwiches.

I did notice that you used bread with a 'top-crust', which is also where the cheese leaked from, and where it was less cooked. Perhaps you could try doing it with square bread or even cutting the crust off? You may get better results, but a great gadget nonetheless!! Great vlog as always!!

Surprised that it even works! Seems like there is too much tension with the side clips engaged, so I wonder if it would work better without them, or maybe place a bowl or something heavy above to get a softer amount of pressure.

This device feels like magic.😄 But every grilled sandwich maker I have had had a "bowl" shape in the middle and squeezed the edges together. That way the cheese stays in the sandwich. But as a meat griller, it might be great if you need one.
