Old guy here. I'm loving the LTD/Het Set through a plug-in combination. It sounds great and having played Esp's and Gibsons, I can vouch for how much more comfortable the necks on Esps are. I'm a fan of whatever helps a person be a better musician.

Fishmans will always sound brighter so with the same eq yes they will sound diffrent. What matters way more to me is how the quality and feel is. For example i dont like thin neck profiles. So i will always prefer the epiphone here. Doesnt mean its better

Soundwise, I'd give the 490/498 a slight edge here, FWIW. It just had a more defined sound for everything but the higher gain sounds, at that point they were almost too close to call. And this is coming from a guy whose main axe has had the EMG 81/85 set in a LP Custom for a while now. If you prefer your ESP guitar, no problem with me. The feel in your hands is what should matter to you. As I am now getting into my 40's, my hands aren't very keen on changing neck shapes either between guitars so I completely understand where you're coming from. Maybe the real winner is the $700 Epiphone. It held its own against the new one and should hold its own against the ESP as well. If I didn't already have 2 Epi LP Customs and a Gibson LP with 490/498 pickups, I would give that guitar a bit more consideration. I don't see any reason for me to try and get one. For $1300, I would want to try a RR Jackson and see how that went. Thanks for making this review.

@@DenDenBMX I love the EMG 81 pickup because I like to play with as much gain as I can get and not lose my sound/integrity in the process. My base sound is 90's metal. I would say it sounds closest to the No More Tears Album, so a little tweak here or there can do the job if I wanted to sound like And Justice For All, or the other way for Alice In Chains' Dirt or push a little further with downtuning to get Godsmack's Awake album without too much effort. The 81 has always done it for me. I think the 498 does the job pretty well too. That's probably why I am not a fan of burstbuckers. I get that a lot of players don't want to play with super high gain either. To each their own. I am looking forward to trying the Jazz/JB combo in my white LP Custom. I was gonna put the 59/Distortion set in my Silverburst, but that one might be best left alone.

Once I adjusted the pickup height to Gibson recommendations my new Epi Custom’s sound bloomed noticeably. I have no idea why the pickups were buried so low from the factory.

That's the wild thing... The pickups on my Epi custom are almost too close to the strings

Considering the 2020 has the same exact electronics and hardware CTS pots and wiring same maple cap same ebony fretboards same Grover tuners same graph tech nut..so there you have it so no the $500 difference is ridiculous

Not saying it’s necessarily $500 more worth but the $1300 one has Gibson USA pickups that match the Gibson Les Paul Custom exactly, a 1 piece neck with long tendon, maple cap, switchcraft jack and switch ($800 one had Epiphone jack and switch), real mother of pearl inlays, an incredibly nice hard shell case and finally of course the Gibson open book headstock

@@snndmann7545 The pickups are $200 a set, and I've always found them too hot - the bridge anyways. I hear tell switching the magnets, putting the A2 in the bridge and A5 in the neck, improves both, so I'm going to try that before replacing them. The custom buckers that comes in the ES355 1959 reissue are $500 a set, not sure why, but they sound much better to me than the 490/498 set, so I wish the Les Paul Custom had come with those instead.

​@@pharmerdavid1432money doesn't matter it's how well they are made I also have the pro buckers in my modern figured Sgs and I assure you these custom buckers are not better than the epiphone pro buckers or Gibson burst buckers..it's a marketing con job by Gibson just like they did with the Gibson standard Tribute Sg and the Gibson standard Sg look at the specs practically the same Sg ..

Great videos man, really enjoy your work. Would love to see you compare an Epi LP Modern to the LTD ECs… or at least get your thoughts, neck heel and SS frets aside!

I'm probably not going to buy another epiphone, but I'll say this. An LTD EC1000 is the actual modern les paul. I do not like any of the half baked pseudo-modern features that come on the lp moderns, I particularly hate how they only cut like a sliver off of the neck joint and try to sell that off as a "modern" feature. Barely improves upper fret access, no ss frets, no modern sounding pickups... booty. LTD EC all the way

That crash intro scared the shit out of me 🤣 I think both Les Paul Customs serve an audience. Do you want a Custom Shop level Epiphone with all those appointments? If not, then the lower priced Custom is a great option for those people. I don’t personally think one has better value than the other. It all just depends what you’re looking for in your guitar purchase. I scored a rather good deal on a brand new in-box Distressed LTD EC-256 in Aged Honey Burst. I’ve had that guitar for about 12 years now and I’ve absolutely love that guitar. Left the stock pickups in it and everything. The Eclipse necks are some it my absolute favorite. The walk out with the cane 🤣

I think the LTD definitely has better value with all the aftermarket modern specs you get on it and their insanely good quality control. The epiphone has the specs and definitely the looks, but is lacking the quality control, thanks for watching!

I was going to buy an EC1000 with Duncan pickups, but then found one of these epiphones selling for less than a thousand brand new, Ec-1000 is an excellent guitar and I will eventually get one for sure (or the Eclipse) but I really wanted that les Paul custom feel. I ended up buying the epiphone, It’s with me right now and it did not disappoint!

Nicely done sir! Thank-you for playing some clean signal through each guitar.😁 The stainless steel frets alone are enough to sell me on the ESP/LTD. I like the sound of the Epiphone but agree it is just over priced for what you are getting (over the other Epiphone LP models and the LTD). IMO, fretwork is still a weakness on the Epiphones, even the higher price point ones. The Gibson Studio would be a great comparison video.

Dood. Im currently rocking a 2021 Epi Les Paul modern with added emg bone breakers.... Love the guitar, sounds and plays quite exquisite.....But holy crap im dying to get my hands on an LTD ec-1000. Satin black with EMGs of course. So gosh darn attractive!

Tuner sensitivity can be adjusted, just tighten the screw on the edge of the tuner button. It's probably just loosened a bit.

That was one of the first things I tried and it didn't help unfortunately, I think I just got a bunk set #EpiphoneQualityControlMoment

The Gibson pups are darker n more mid range....I like the LTD's extra clarity. But aesthetically the Epi wins for me by round 1 KO. Yes do the Epi vs Gibson Studio comparison!!

The absolute best thing about these new epis are easily the looks of them, I just wish they had the quality control to back it up

All the players in the 80s tried an EMG or Lace Sensors pole pieces were grody to the max dude!

I've always liked emgs but i've never found a set of lace sensors that I liked

I agree with you about kidney beans.. we had em on our 2000s Epis.. AND WE LIKED IT but those days are long gone. I got a set of Kaisch gold keystones tuners to put on my Epi Lp Custom I hope they work lol LTD sounds better here.

They both sound good. If the neck shape on that Epiphone is the same as the 2020 version I'll take the LTD. I had the previous Epiphone and did not care for that neck shape. It was just weird, it wasn't the thickness I'm not really picky about that, it was the shape. It felt like a chubby D shape.

That Epi is pretty rad, but my EC-1000T CTM is 🔥🔥🔥, especially getting it for $700 used with only a minor ding on the back of the body. If I had to guess mine is in the 8lb neighborhood.

Just checking to be sure but the Epi includes a hard shell case and the LTD will cost an extra $200? Is that right. Looking on line it appears that way.

that is true, however I think getting things like stainless steel frets, fishman pickups, locking tuners, locking bridge, and the set through neck easily justify the price of the LTD even without a case

eh, the specs and looks are there, the quality control is not.

Well when closing my eyes, I was able to tell the difference and opened them to the sound I liked best which was the LTD. It had a brighter sound. EPI was like a muffled lower sound....

I agree I knew the LTD was gonna be more clear because of the active pickups, but those pickups in that epiphone are DARK and pretty muddy

@@DenDenBMX I had a weak moment and ordered one. But boy oh boy now that was a good thing to do. Mine came in perfect condition. Even with searching using magnifier glasses pedantic little me didn't find a good reason to complain. The pickups sound and feel super bright and open. The neck is different to my EC1000T of course but still feels great. This axe will get a lot of playtime. I really wish they came all in that state.

@@DenDenBMX I agree, the Epi does sound a bit muddy, as if the tone controls are rolled off a little. The Ltd sounds the complete opposite, a bit on the bright/thin side, a totally different character, a bit more like a PRS than a Gibson or Epi. I've never owned a Ltd, but I have played a few 👍

I need a pickguard to play a LP,so Epi wins...❤

If you only play root plus 3rd and 5th chords emgs are for you they compress and kill dissonant frequency chords to my ears

oh no I LOVE Fishman pickups! I just really wanted a set of brushed gold pickups in this guitar to match the satin finish, and EMG was the only brand that I could find making brushed gold pickups, which is fine with me cuz I also love EMGs

@@DenDenBMX I love my LTD EC1000, playability is 2nd to none, I also Love my Epiphone, I found that the LTD is way too bright for my liking, swapped some classic 57s in it, now its awesome. the sound can be altered to your liking, playability fit and finish on the LTDs is way better, its lighter better finish, better fret work, and mine came with the compensated Earvana nut, and should have been more of the topic, themsound is whatever you prefer, no right or wrong, I appreciate your OPINION, but we obviously dont agree on what we like for tone.

Epiphone guitars always sound muffle compare to most Lp style guitars on the market even the famous Harley Benton sc550 sounds way way better.

@@DenDenBMX well they don't research first anything most speculate assume or lie then when you call them out on their BS right away your a troll and they try to BS there way out of their own stupidity..the epiphone Quindoa facility was opened in 2002 by Gibson Epiphone USA they have American and Asian luthiers at the facility only Epiphones are made there no other brands..and like there little brother Gibson epiphones are 70% crafted by hand and it's been this way for a long time..we live in a lazy society very little research is done and they wind up sticking their foot in their mouths because they don't research first..or do they know anything about epiphone history...great channel buddy

I like Ltds. I had an EC401VF and a Japanese Eclipse and my Gibson Custom-owning buddy even liked them. They're comfortable and they sound good. My Gibson sounds good but it's far from comfortable. I feel it's actually hindering me from playing in my usual style.
