Can The Edmonton Oilers Win The Cup?

Спорт

The Edmonton Oilers have been the hottest team in the NHL over the past few months. Under the guidance of coach Kris Knoblauch, Zach Hyman and Evan Bouchard are having career years, while the likes of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl continue to play like superstars. With such an incredible run of form, the question needs to be asked: Can the Oilers win the cup this year? Today, we look at this season and this roster to determine whether that's a possibility for the Oil.

The stats say they’re one of the best teams this year. 145% special teams in the post season is unbelievably good. They took out the Kings in 5 games rather than 6 and 7 the two playoffs before. We’ve never seen the exceptional defense we are seeing this season under Knoblauch. This is the best Oilers team we have ever witnessed in decades

The oilers problem is their start player’s mentality, when they go against other top teams, they look like they do not win the game. The most recent example is the OT loss to the Avalanche.

Many people underestimate the Oilers because of their current position in the standings. Although the terrible start of the season was/is unrepresentative of the current team, it still casts a deceptive shadow, and it's easy to overlook the fact that since the coaching change the Oilers have achieved the highest points percentage in the league. Knoblauch's Oilers are 38-12-3 (.745 P%). This may be shocking to some, but the Oilers are now *evidently* producing the best results in the NHL.

You failed to mention the brilliant development of Viny D. He’s taken a huge step forward in his game and he's helping oilers defence so much. Secondly their grittiness. Evander Kane and Corey Perry are both the perfect middle 6 forwards to have in a playoff run. Get in guys heads, draw penalties and score greasy goals.

I don't know that they're missing something per say, it's just that the pieces they have need to click at the right time. Personally I peg Colorado as the favourites to win the cup... That being said, the Oilers need the team to be playing their A game and their goalies dialed in and they have a great chance to make a run. Only reason they lost to Vegas last year is because Skinner got our-played by Hill. It was a close series.
