We had a 62' Oldsmobile 98 4 door sedan. Smooth riding, but my father 65' Ninety Eight Luxury Sedan was the smoothest of all. One of the smoothest car I ever rode in.

Most don't know it but that Tbird is about 4500lbs. The caddy pushing close to 5000.

I know the 1962 Cadillac very well, as I owned one in 1973. In regards to the steering issue, do a complete check of all the front end components.When they are all perfect with no play or very little, then your final step will be to adjust the steering gear with an allen key and a wrench. In order to improve the handling characteristics, changing the steering gear from the current 17.5 to 1 ratio to a 14 to 1 ratio will render a quicker response and much improved road feel. Just make certain that there are no stops inside the steering gear so this will still allow for the same turning radius. I will also add to have a competent individual who is very familiar in adjusting this style of steering gear. Your original steering box, as we sometimes refer to them as, is recommended to convert. In this manor, you will encounter no difficulty with installation in regards to mounting and the re installation of the pressure and return lines. Have a great day and take care. Brian

Yes, the interior is so futuristic in style and yet classic at the same time. Especially the wrap around back seat. and Dashboard/console. The Ford designers at the time were very forward thinking.

I give props to both cars surviving 60 years of age, weather and use.

In addition to my earlier comments, I would like to mention that previously I had installed a steering gear from a 1978 Camaro which was a close ratio gear of 13 to 1. The steering feel was more sensitive, positive, and it had the feel of rack and pinion steering with no play what so ever. Unfortunately because it was installed on my 79 Fleetwood at the time, with the stoppers in the steering gear and it being a large car, turning in tight situations necessitated an extra reversing and forward motion. I hope the information will prove to be beneficial. Brian

If the cars don't have a brake lockout you are just tearing up you brakes.

64-66 Birds are the Birds I love the most (I love them all) and the 62 Cadillac Coupe is my favorite just above the 57 Coupe.

Yes the thunderbirds from that era are so unique and people love the details. We don't see a lot of the '62 caddys around here maybe 1-2 that are fully restored. One of our favorites too. But very hard to beat a 57 coupe, one of the best Cadillacs ever.

The 60s Caddys were definitely "floaty" like a boat. This explains why I used to get car sick when I was a kid, riding in the backseat of my father's 1965 Coupe Devile. 😉

That doesn't sound like a GM horn. I'm pretty sure the Caddys had dual horns, sound like only one was working.

I was right ...the Caddy had a dual horn setup. Only one working is why it sounded weak.

I have the same 62 Cadillac but mine is Nevada silver

Two beautiful cars. I have a 66 Tbird but I don't consider it a big car. That's just me though. Edit The Cadillac owner needs to check his steering if there is play in his steering wheel. Front suspension or Rag joint/Steering coupler. Stay safe fellas.

True, the Tunderbirds of that era are not as big as some of the other cars of those years. Yes, we have discovered some potation problems with the Cadillac suspension and steering, thank you for the tip! :)

I have a 66 Bird too, and it seems very wide to me--Especially after driving my 2013 Honda! 😊

I own the nicest 86 Thunderbird Elan in Tucson.. if not the entire US. 23,000 original miles. The color is midnight wine. See a short video on my channel.

64 'bird didn't have sequential taillights from factory - they came in 65. Easy enough to add but not original.

I like the 64.65s the front ends still retain the 50s look.

I have a 1966 Thunderbird, and I'm currently in the process of trying to get it reupholstered, but it is difficult to find somebody who is able to reupholster the seats and the door panels. who reupholstered yours?

The owner of this Thunderbird is @polisheddetailing I believe he purchased an interior kit and installed it himself. But we have a great interior installer that we use here at Crown for any of our classic restorations.

My 61 was a rag top .. my fins were bigger and sharper.....the 62 is a much nicer in design ....FYI , the cornering light was first used on the 62 year Caddy.....and every model newer....these were signature lights for Caddy .. I liked them......Ford and Chrysler never bothered with these till way later years on their better cars..
