He looked young. I wonder if his kids were teens. Also the lady whose kids were 11 and 12 her kids aren’t teens yet and she hasn’t had the full experience of raising a child from 13 to 18. I would rather hear a parents perspective who has been through it already

@@ricatorres171 I know your comment was written with good intention but that idea can only apply to a smaller portion of people while probably majority cannot do that. For a child to dissociate from their parents, there is a good reason. THIS!! My parents didn't have that base and then suddenly they wanted to talk to me and open up like huh?? It has taken another few years for me to finally put the tip on my thoughts out to them. So yes, you do need a foundation if you want your children to open up to you. Trust isn't just magically earned one day, it's built through time and parental love.

YES i agree. i think so many children of immigrants could relate to this teen. how does one open up when their entire lives they were shamed for doing so? or their parents seemed uninterested? i just had dinner w my parents today and spent a lot of it on silence because none of us knew what to say to each other. i fear saying something they’ll immediately shut down so i stay silent and hope they’ll lead the conversation. i’m sure they try to give me the space to talk but it’s hard when i don’t know how.

She meant it as the teen didn't have a mom and her having only a mom she didnt have a father. Meaning: she gets that you dont need a mother AND a father. That either one (no matter sex) alone are enough to raise a child if fulfill their needs. They are not missing out on any experience as that 1 single parent (male or female) or 2 of same sex parents are enough and can teach you what you need to learn to growing up. You dont need a father to teach you to be a man or a mother to teach you to be a woman. It can be taugh by either one as long as they are aware or can help you get thru things, have patience, be loving, etc.

But I'll get through it somehow someday... 😣And the one sentence that all ways make me feel so down is "It's becouse ur aoways on ur phone!" or "Act more like ur sister!" or "Dress like a girl for once in ur life.." I wish we could go back to the old days... Were me and my mom were so close... Now we don't even acoully speak anymore... And i trie to but she doesn't wanna see that... Social media litterly is the only thing that keeps me from breathing... Becouse i met my Bestest best friend ever!!! That's okay, buddy. There's nothing wrong with you, you shouldn't blame yourself. I may be wrong ofc, but I feel like your mom really loves you (since you were close before, there's no way a mother would suddenly hate her child, honey) and probably she acts that way because she goes through some difficulties. I am not a therapist at all, but just a suggestion: how about asking her to be more honest with you and tell everything she has on her mind, so that she can open up a little bit I suppose¿ I hope you stay strong and stay true to yourself as well. Cry when you feel like that, laugh when you want to, ask for help when you need it. It's okay not to be okay.

I personally think that when your kids say "I'm stressed." your answer should NEVER BE either "Well how do you think I fell" or "It never ends/ you just wait." For the first one I think it's a hostile response. The parent is getting defensive and invalidating your child just for sharing how they feel with you. That sets a precedent for the child. "I won't share how I feel again, because they make me feel like my problems are inadequate." Teens can be stressed. It's not up to you to prove how someone else feels For the second one... Becoming an adult is important. Learning right front wrong and learning basic things for living as an adult is important. But still, it's stressful. (Some) Teens look forward to being an adult and while you should be real with them, you should need to understand that they're a child. Be there for them, comfort them. Don't make adult good sound depressing before they reach it. it's like a food dish. You wouldn't want to talk it up so much knowing it's mediocre at best, then when the person eats they're disappointed. At the same time, you don't want to talk so much crap that they've formed an opinion on the dish before having had it themselves. It ruins the entire experience

I hate when people say “don’t be so hard on your parents” when there’s a literal REASON why I’m being hard on them. I don’t do it to be a bully, I do it as a reaction. If sumone does sumthing I don’t like, I will react. But they were being hard on me first, and they weren’t held accountable, so why should I be?
