I find that the main problems with connecting to Hack the Box are as follows:
1) There is no connection at all
2) There is a host up, but no ports are open
3) There is a connection and open ports, but it's sooo slow!

It takes time but you can do it!
Saved my butt, getting so frustrated trying to vpn from my own box to HTB Academy. All it took was the killall and reset and I was in. Instant like and subscribe

My problem is with the starting point labs, openvpn is connected, and shows Initialization Sequence Completed, but on the HTB website it still says offline and "Pending connection"

nvm fixed it, instead of using the starting point vpn files, I used the regular machine vpn file and now connected to all 3

For some reason I cannot connect to the port 80/webpage from the machine even though I can ping them

Try restarting the machine or using the starting point. ovpn. It means a lot that you've connected with us here and shared your experience. I'm sorry you're encountering this problem.
Mine says Error opening configuration file when i try to connect it

Try with Sudo. If not download the UDP version. Cheers!!

I can connect to the machine, but not the services on that machine...anyone else have this issue?

The ovpn profile may be wrong. You need to download the starting point ovpn. Try both the TCP and the UDP ones.
