Shezza 69years young Yes McKenzie method works for me too. However if I stop my daily routine for too long (or sit too much) the symptoms come back. PT for life. I also have a way to do daily decompression in my home which is a game changer. I try to walk 100 miles per month. I don’t want surgery, then another, then another. That is a huge motivator for me. I hope PT can help - it usually does if a person is consistent, a healthy weight, and watches their sitting time. I cheer you on!

I am currently 38 years old. At age 20 I herniated L4-L5. The nerve pain was severe enough, and it had persisted long enough (6months) that my Dr referred me to a neurosurgeon and we discussed surgery. The surgeon recommended waiting it out a little longer, and within about 6 months I had made a complete recovery. I still am prone to back injury; I’m fairly active. But the most important things I have found to manage pain and prevent injury the last 18 years has been maintaining a healthy body weight, and keeping my trunk strong with planks and body weight squats, push-ups, etc. I found these videos recently because I’m in a bout of back pain brought on by long hours of sitting for work and not exercising, but once again I’m optimistic that I can get back to normal.

I was diagnosed with 2 herniated discs in my lower lumbar...exactly L4-5..I was also diagnosed with an inflamed sciatic nerve. That was 10 years ago and I'm ok but I absolutely watch how I treat my back because when I do too much that's when my back kills me. Yesterday was one of those days when I thought for sure the disc would touch a nerve because that's crazy pain!! There is hope if you've been recently diagnosed...if you don't have back issues....be grateful!!!

I lived with chronic pain for over a decade. I took up cycling 6 months ago and did a recent stint of 7 weeks in physical therapy and i'm 95% pain free now. I had spent the last 13 years living a sedentary life and my back was in worse shape because of the sitting then it ever was from the lifting I'd done in the paramedic career that caused the herniations. Follow your doctor's advice, but, if you CAN be more active, I highly recommend finding something you enjoy doing, be it cycling, swimming, whatever, and doing it RELIGIOUSLY. Also, continue the stretches your PT gives you -- don't blow them off! Those seemingly simple stretches have given me my life back.

At the age of 25 I messed up a disc in my lower back pretty gnarly like. It took about 2 years of intense physical therapy regiments to completely heal. And the nerve sheathing is for sure messed up to this day. I would say the best way to heal is to go on a very long walk (10-15 kilometers) everyday for about 30 days. Until I started doing this I didn’t see a permanent change in my sciatica symptoms. This is your best bet. Happy Walking.

I know herniated discs. As a past bodybuilder and powerlifter I have had more than one herniated disc, the first one being a little over 40 years ago. I was lucky enough to find a good chiropractor. Besides his adjustments he gave me the McKenzie exercises and have never had surgery. I still get adjusted to prevent any 'flare-ups' and do those exercises every day.

A tip, when mentioning other videos you have done like here where you bring up the one you did on “finding a McKenzie therapist” you should put it on the video at the end so users can click and watch. This is not only incredibly helpful for your viewers but also keeps people on your content longer which is something that KZread lives and rewards with more organic reach. Lastly, you should also put that link in the show notes or written resources of the video for users for all of the same reasons. I do this foe a living and hope this all helps and keep putting out helpful content! I’m dealing with a miserable herniated discs and sciatic problem for 2 months and your content has been extremely helpful! Thank you!

Currently continuing pain for nine months (had a microdiscotomy 4 1/2 weeks ago, and re-herniated. Same disk, but different location). I've seen various doctors/surgeons, and I always say that it hurts less, or not at all (this is pain in my right thigh) when I ride my bicycle. And not one doctor has commented on that. I'm wondering if you have any insights here (of course, I've been off my bike for five months. Which is difficult, since I normally ride 12 - 15 hours weekly). Thanks for listening!

If I were in yiur shoes I would get immediate surgery. If doctors are discouraging ignore them disregard etc believe on yourself that yes I can heal with the right proper treatment which j believe is minimally invasive spine surgery very soon. Also tge more time passing the more iT may get worse. Also if I were you imo I would not workout or do any physical stuff barely at all. Not because yiur lazy but because yiu have a serious injury that is very powerful and not good ok be careful snd how bless you friend I hope and I know you'll recover ok be careful ❤.

Yes it can heal, I have proof from old mri I had done about 10 years ago from a previous back injury. that disc bulge is gone, with time and physical therapy., even though they told me I needed surgery. i had to recently get a mri done for a new back problem, that is hitting my sciatic nerve, and compared the 2 mri. Old bulge is gone, this new one is a totally different area. It just sucks dealing with the pain, so most people rush to get surgery, which should be a last resort. I’m dealing with terrible sciatica pain in my left leg now. I had it last year, got better in about 2 months, but now 6 months later I think I re injured it. I had pain that felt like someone was cutting my leg off. Just terrible. I was hoping to pass out before ever feeling that much pain, but it just didn’t happen. Getting better now every day. Seeing chiropractor, doing decompression, and acupuncture to relieve the tense muscles in my left leg and but.

Just found your videos today, they have helped already. Last Sunday ended up with severe pain from herniated disk and sciatica, I had warm Ning signs and ignored them till they took me down. Today I did some of the excercises, the one where you lay flat on stomach and lift, it helped so much, will continue to do it. Question, at first when if happened I could not barely walk, when is the right time to start doing the excercise? Do I wait a few days or try to do them right away?

I think mine healed just today actually. It was about 5 to 5 and a half years ago that I injured my back. So mine was really bad i mean this was by far one of the worst or things I've ever had to go through besides breaking my left arm or something else excruciatingly painful as well. But my arm healed in 4 weeks other things like burns healed faster than 5 and a half years of hell. I really am glad this guy healed and I am glad for others like ne too who have healed just wanted to tell someone that my back got better and I'm do glad that these comments are so great with positivity I honestly thought discs bevef healed but I just didn't know they did bit you really have to wait a long long time and protect your back as well. God bless you all, and esiecially tge people like je who have seemingly miraculously healed as well ok take care and God bless.

Bob Trenwith Yes, I had a really great neuro and back surgeon examine my back and do more than one MRI. She never hit her brakes. I unfortunately saw her coming and tensed up which made it worse. I did years of physical therapy. I was a physical dynamo prior to the accident. I still have days that are better than others. The big concern which is the only thing that I will go on the operating table for is the narrowing of the space around my cord. I have almost no empty space and my toes are numb a lot of the time. I still go to the gym and do the recumbent bike. Thank you both for sharing all your brilliant education with us. 💖
