Edit: Wow! This video really blew up! Because im seeing a lot of questions that would usually be answered by watching my other videos, I’ll do a quick FAQ here!
Q: Why do you use beans? Are they safe?
A: I use beans for weight in my personal plushies because they’re cheap and heavy! Not to mention better for the planet!😉🪴 I like my plushies ridiculouly heavy and that’s just not attainable with plastic poly pellets alone! I use poly pellets for any plushie that isn’t meant for me though!
As for if theyre safe? Absolutely! Ive been making plushies like this for 4.5 years so don’t worry! I’ve done my research! I don’t live in a humid climate and I’m already meticulous about keeping my art clean and pristine so I have no problems keeping them from getting wet! Dry beans, over time, only get harder and less likley to retain water and theres no pests around here that get into them!
Q: Why not use dye/airbrushing/XYZ fabric?
A: I briefly thought through these options while making this video but I just don’t have the time or money to experiment with these things at this time. All of those would take extensive testing before I felt comfortable enough to use such expensive fabric with them and/or making such a long project with new and unfamiliar fabric that could affect the plushie’s outcome.
Q: Why does XYZ look like that?
A: Typically, if I don’t point something out as a flaw, it’s probably because it was an intended design choice! Not always, but 9 times out of 10 it is!
Q: How do you make these things!?
A: Lots and lots of practice! I’ve been making plushies like this for 4.5 years and I try to find at least one thing I can learn from every plushie I’ve made! Every plushie should teach me something or improve in some way from the last! But! This is also a good time to remind you all that all of the plushies you see on my channel are TECHNICALLY prototypes! None of these would I ever send to a company as a final design since they all could use a liiiitle tweaking in the end lol!
Q: Where can I get the pattern?
A: unfortunately, you don’t.😅 My big plushie patterns are SewMicah exclusives unless made specifically for a plushie company! I know a good handful of people think my videos are tutorials but they’re not really! Sure, one could pick up tips and tricks from my videos and I LOVE that, but these are for entertainment purposes only!😅
I do, however, give out little beginner patterns on my patreon for my bear tier patrons! It’s every other month, alternating with mini sewing tutorials!
I hope this helped answer some of your questions!😁💛

    The "I hate it stage" and when you can't find the PRECISE right colored fabric with the texture you want!!! 😭 The struggle is real! I think she came out really cute tho! Even if the colors are different, I bet they'd look gnarly under some black light!

    EXACTLY! I can fix features looking off or a leg being too long, but the COLOR!? We just have to start all the way over with a new design!😅 But you are SO RIGHT. When I got my UV light out for the resin there was already the neon green fur all over the floor and it looked WILD!!!😂💛

    @@faefriedavidson6981 oof! I appreciate the suggestion but airbrushing is one of my least favorite things on plushies.😅 If one were to do it in a way that didn’t affect the feel of the fabric and wouldn’t come off over time, it could be perfectly fine! But airbrushing, as I’ve seen it done in the past, is DEFINITELY not my thing lol! Honestly, this project was kinda fluke! It’s a real shame THIS is the video that blew up too!😅 Usually I get my plushies pretty spot on but this time I didn’t have time to re-think any fabric or design choices because this wasn’t even the project I was supposed to be doing this month lol! (I would’ve re-ordered my regular minky fabric that comes in TONS of colors instead if I had the time!) I had a completely different video I was working on but the pattern kept not working and I ran out of time so I had to switch to something I could get done faster which was this lol! (This was essentially a speed craft! 😂) Even switching just BARELY saved me! I was editing this video until 1am the night before it was supposed to go out and was still adding the finishing touches to the description in the morning right before it came out!😅 So, basically, what I’m trying to say is: thank you very much for the suggestion! Both to you and to everyone else suggesting things! This just isn’t a problem I don’t know how to fix lol! I know plenty of ways to fix a future version of sprigatito, all with their own pros and cons! I just decided the best solution for me would be re-making them with minky fabric and that’s why that’s what I mentioned I’d be doing in the video! Not because I don’t know other options, but because this is the option that’ll be best for me!😁💛 (I’ll be sure to list alternative options in the video if this happens again in the future though!!!) I do think yours and other’s suggestions could help another budding plushie artist if they find and read these comments though, so thank you for that! We love helping out fellow artists and even if this solution isn’t for me because of my sensory sensitivities, it could REALLY help out someone else so thank you for that!!!🥺💛💛💛

    @@sewmicahperhaps dye? idk how well fur fabric would take to rit dye or something similar, but it could be interesting to test out. doesn't change texture much if at all, and tie-dye or dip-dye effects could look amazing on plushies, as well as getting unique colours.

    this is coming from someone who has a build a bear Sprigatito, I named mine Catmint. The BAB, short for Build a bear, has a small cat like body with a big head and a cute face. 10/10 perfect snuggle buddy for cat rides. I'm not joking when I say this but I made a kid in the car next to me freak out cause I had Catmint looking out the window while I snuggled with her on the ride home. I wasn't the one driving, my dad drove me to build a bear for my birthday.

    WOAH!!!! I’ve always wished there was more plush making stuff on KZread, and dude your stuff is INCREDIBLE!!!! Your work is absolutely gorgeous, and as a fellow autistic plush maker I FEEL YOU on the sensory rating, that’s genuinely a super nice thing to rank. If you don’t mind the unsolicited comment, though, I highly recommend investing in some poly pellets/plastic pellets if you have the budget to spare to replace the beans!! I’m overly paranoid, but I’ve worked with those exact kind of beans before, and seeing them used just makes me really anxious that they’re going to rot somehow and ruin the absurd amount of hard work you put into things. Again though that’s just 99% paranoia over if things somehow got wet talking and I’ve never had issues with that actually happening, I just felt like I needed to say something, haha. Sorry if that sounded rude!!! Also obviously you have an extra subscriber now and I’ll be slowly getting caught up with the rest of your videos >:))))) keep it up, the sheer quality of everything you do is mind boggling!!!

    Ah! Thank you so much!!! I noticed after I started making plushie making content that there really wasn’t anyone else doing what I do here! I wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing lol! 😅 But I’m so glad you enjoyed it all!!! That sensory feel category was a MUST! I almost combined it with the hug feel category when I was scripting this video but there were just too many variables then that could clash. For example, if something was Sherpa (and I cannot STAND Sherpa) but it had a GREAT hug feel, it would get demoted in hug feel a TON because the sensory feel of it all was bad which feels unfair. Not to mention it’d be much harder for a viewer to adjust the ranking in their mind if they DIDN’T mind Sherpa! I want these rankings to actually help people decide if a plush is right for them so 5 categories it is!😂 And no worries! I do actually have poly pellets! They’re just A: More expensive to keep buying non-stop for projects like this, and B: WAY less heavy. I like my plushies weighted to high heaven so the beans are the way to go for me! 😂 I’ve been making plushies with these beans for 4 and a half years and never had a problem with sprouting! I don’t live in a humid area (I like to say I’m one of Santa’s elves in the North Pole lol!) and I’m METICULOUS about keeping my plushies clean and that includes away from any water or liquid. If a plush were to get wet I’d 100% be unstuffing them and changing out the beans to avoid any damage to the plush itself! Any plushies that go on my Etsy shop or are for someone else use poly pellets so nobody else has to deal with that risk. (You can see them in the dragon fruit dragon video for a recent example!) I just choose to take it on because I NEED the plushies this heavy.😅 Some plushies are designed to work better with the poly pellets like my pixies on my Etsy shop (even if I make one for myself they get poly pellets!) But otherwise I do love me some bean time!😂🫘✨ But thank you for your concern! And for deciding to stick around here by subscribing! That really does mean a lot!!!🥺💛

    I've seen a lot of dollmakers use an air brush to adjust the colours in their art plushes! They paint in light layers and brush it out inbetween to keep the fur soft. I don't know if that's something you've considered, but it might help you if you can't get exactly the right colours for your faux fur!

  • @sewmicah

    @sewmicah

    Ай бұрын

    Unfortunately airbrushing won’t work for me right now for a couple different reasons.😅 For one, I just don’t trust that the fur will stay the same texture. Texture is HUGE for me as an autistic person with sensory sensitivities, and putting ANYTHING on the fur could potentially change its texture which is exactly what I don’t want.🥺 Another reason being that this fur is hella expensive! Maybe not for some people, but it’s typically over $25 per yard plus shipping. I just cannot risk ruining the fur at that price right now.😅 (not to mention the cost of the airbrush itself which, I’ve heard it’s best to avoid the cheapest ones to avoid clogs/clumps coming out which would risk the fabric further!) Then there’s also the time aspect of this all! I’ve had a good handful of people suggest airbrushing or dying the fabric which, I appreciate! But these plushies take SO LONG to make already (like, most detailed ones are between 20-40 for JUST the final plush, excluding patterning, prototyping, photoshoot, and editing the video.) and I really don’t want to be adding more time on for something I don’t really like or trust in the first place.😅 I did recently use dye on an upcoming project for the first time but it was on material that the texture doesn’t matter for. I do love how it turned out (for the material it was, I thought it wouldn’t dye at all!) but that was on something VERY cheap and small and it STILL took me like an hour and a half standing over the stove which, is REALLY hard for me, even with a stool because of some medical stuff.😅 Maybe with some testing I’d be able to dye or airbrush things in the future (and with a different chair option lol!) but as of right now. I just don’t have any time to test anything new. The thing I dyed recently was kind of a miracle I had time for and I had 2 back ups in case it didn’t work.😂 I’m just SO behind schedule because of issues with patterning the Eevee project and a different project that was supposed to come out this month that I couldn’t get right in time and had to switch, last minute, to sprigatito.😅 I really appreciate yours and everyone else’s comments about dyes and airbrushing since I’m sure it’ll help another artist down the line who hasn’t thought of these options before! We love helping other artists like that here!!!🥺💛 I’ve just already gone over all these options and decided they weren’t for me, at least not right now.😅 that’s why I said I’d want to re-make my sprigatito with minky fabric. (which would also fix some other issues I had with the plush! Just making some of those little details more visible!) Of course, I didn’t say any of that in the video so nobody would know that inherently so that’s my bad! Sorry about that!😅 I think I’ve been getting a liiiiitttle annoyed at commenters unfairly because I keep feeling like people are assuming I don’t know about dyes or airbrushing rather than it being a conscious choice to not use them and it feels like they’re saying I’m not skilled enough or experienced enough to know about those things. I know logically nobody is saying that! Everyone is just trying to be helpful! And that’s so sweet of you all!🥺💛 I’m just having a really tough time not seeing every suggestion as a suggestion that I’m unskilled or inexperienced.😅 I know, that’s a me problem lol! I just thought I’d share it so you and everyone else knows that my responses might seem a little… long winded? Sharper? When talking about this stuff as I’m actively fighting against my brain saying everyone is saying I’m an inexperienced artist who knows nothing lol. In the end though, painting, airbrushing, or dying this fur is just not something I want to do without extensive testing on scrap fabric which I unfortunately just don’t have time or money for right now.😅 (I wish I did! But the time factor is REALLY kicking my butt right now!!!😂) But thank you so much for your comment again! It definitely shows me that you all would be interested in me trying something like that in the future if I had the time and money for it so I’ll definitely be keeping it in the back of my mind! (Plus you won’t have to wait long for the first use of dye in general in a SewMicah video! It’s happening in the next one and we’ll be making that good soup!😂) And, extra bonus! Your comment could really help other artists too so that’s awesome! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🥳🎉 Hopefully I’ll have time to mess around with dye and airbrushing at some point so you all can see how it turns out and I’ll be doing my best to fight against my brain and it’s ridiculous notion that every piece of advice or suggestion is an attack lol! (Probably just that PDA autism again lol!) Thanks so much again for being so sweet and for the suggestion!!!🥺💛

The best tip I have for this kind of thing, if you want it, is to go slow and steady! Fabric slipping out? Don’t be afraid to readjust! Even it it means taking it out of the machine, re-pinning, and sewing again! (Sometimes my seams are a MESS on the inside!😂) Coming across an intersection? Go slow and steady! Manually turn the wheel if you have to! It’s not good for the machine, but sometimes it has to be done to avoid breaking a needle!😅 (on my clicker project I turned the wheel on the side of my machine all the way down the face seam because the fabric was so thick and I didn’t want to hand sew it!😭) In the end though, everyone comes up with their own way of dealing with these things! It just takes some time and getting used to! And even then, I still have trouble with some seams sometimes and I’ve been at this non-stop for 4 and a half years! Sometimes, seams just be tricky!😂

She is definitely more neon than I would’ve liked but I just keep trying to tell myself she’s a ✨shiny✨ 😂 But those colors are the biggest reason why I want to re-make sprigatito at some point! I really think I can do a lot better if I just fix a couple tiny things and use minky fabric instead of fur! (So I can get those colors right!) And you so much again!!! I’m surprised you noticed! I didn’t know if I should say something or not about hitting 2k so I just left it out of the video.😅 And no worries!!! It’s good to get a little less screen time each day! Get those peepers a rest from all those screens!😂 honestly, I definitely need to take a break from screens after this video! I was up SO late every night editing because of so many things going wrong and so little time to fix them! I was literally up until 1 am last night editing this video when I’m usually in bed by 10:30!😂 (plus I wasn’t even done getting it KZread ready lol) So I guess I’m trying to say: take some screen breaks! They’re good for you and I need them too! And I’m so glad you liked the video after all the work that went into getting this one on here for you all today!😅💛

    @@sewmicah Shiny is a good interpretation of the colours! but that would def be a good video! I love seeing people's improvements on past art (including my own, even if I don't always see it at first) You're welcome! tbh, I like to keep an eye on how smaller channels progress as I watch them more, it's great to see the growth! I've been working on some sculptures to try & sell whilst I practice my plushie making skills (which is on hold til after my hol, two weeks to go before I leave!) & whilst I've not sold anything yet, it's still been fun to be working on my stock. between that & work, when I do get on the PC, I tend to spend more time hanging out on Discord but I need to get back to watching videos as they're all motivations for me in my art & video creation. sounds like you definitely need a break too, that's a heck of a long time editing but also worth it!💙

    Haha, thank you so much!!! I’m glad I’m one of the channels you decided to keep an eye on!😅💛 Honestly, one of my favorite things is looking back at my OLD old plushies compared to my new ones! It’s SO NICE to see that all this hard work is actually paying off!😂 Ooh! Sculpting! I’ve only worked with clay a few times but it can be SO fun! You can actually see one of my little sculpts in my videos from time to time! The little blue teddy bear car on my desk in some shots? I sculpted that! It’s not the best, I never finished it, and I wanted to make the wheels move (which just wouldn’t work with the style I wanted) but I still love it anyway! But hey! Keep making those sculptures, even if you haven’t sold any yet! I know from experience it’s better to have options on your shop than to only have one or two listings! (It tends to make people feel like your shop might not be trustworthy because of inexperience.😅) I hope that all works out for you! I’m sure you’ll never forget your first sale! It’ll be amazing!!!✨💛 I also hope you get to watch more crafting videos like you want! I get into those spaces where I fall out of doing something I really like just because I haven’t had time to really engage with it and it’s ALWAYS worth it when I get back into it and get going again! So hopefully you can too!!!💛 I DEFINITELY need a break! At least from editing! For the first time in a LONG time I actually got to sit down and make a new plushie design pretty much from scratch and I’m really excited about it! Hopefully I don’t go messing up my schedule though just to shove this one in lol! I've made 10, so far, I think. I've lost count. I've been making one to give to my friend when we meet up in just over a week, done a couple of personal ones as examples of what I can do & some that are still wips, but I'm looking forward to finishing them. I might start watching videos as I sculpt. As the bears are basically the same base, I've got them to a point that I'm comfortable to do that with, but that kind of thing also slows my progress, so we'll see. I just had to answer some questions about fabric and how the stretch can effect your final plush in the comments here which made me realize not everybody knows about that stuff! I mean, I know I didn’t know when I first started but somehow I’m still surprised lol! I’m hoping to have a little tutorial all about fabric going out on my Patreon one of these days after all this!😅 Waiting is probably one of the MOST annoying things about creating! When you KNOW what you want to do but just can’t do it yet! It’s the worst! Hopefully it’ll be super worth it though! I’ll try and make the bear more visible in the next one for you if I remember😉 But 10! That’s pretty good! Sculpting takes some real time so I’d say you’re doing great on that front! If it were me, I’d DEFINITELY be watching stuff as much as possible while crafting! Making plushies has gotten a little less chill and enjoyable now that every single step has to be at the desk and recorded.😅 The last time I had a chill sewing session was when I made Roxy! She had SO much had sewing I had to do that I got to sew some on the couch again and it was SO nice! Though, at this point? I don’t think I could get myself to make anything off camera! Like, “Everything is content and I’m wasting time if it’s not recorded!”😂 Yesss, the unfinished projects! I got a little area set up for WIP things on a whiteboard with clips and bags but I rarely use it now because I realized when a project goes on the white board, it STAYS on the whiteboard!😂 So hopefully I don’t end up with anything on the whiteboard for more than a day with all this going on or else it’ll stay there!😅 All that aside, thank you so much again! I hope everyone REALLY likes it because I think the prototype, even though unfinished, is turning out to be one of my coolest projects yet!😁💛

    Unfortunately that just isn’t the case with this specific fabric. The manufacturer of the fabric only makes three (ish, more like 2) shades of green. I could definitely get the right colors in another brand/type of fabric! But this pattern was made for this fabric specifically and patterns are fabric specific. And, double unfortunately, I just didn’t have time to test out and adjust for new fabric for this project.😅 (Not to mention other cheaper fabric might be bad for me sensory wise. Like I say in the video: one bad texture and I may never touch the plushie again!🫣) But! I do plan on re-making sprigatito with my regular cuddle minky fabric which would still work with the pattern! (The reason I didn’t just use it this time was because I didn’t have time to even re-order fabric by the time the first batch of fabric came in lol!) Overall, this project was SUPER last minute because it wasn’t supposed to be the project for this month at all! I had a completely different project I was working on before having to switch to this one last minute because the first one’s pattern wasn’t working in time to have it out this month.😅 Literally, I was editing this video up until midnight the night before it was supposed to come out and had to get up early the next morning to get it all uploaded and ready on the KZread end of things lol! So when I say last minute, I REALLY mean it!😂 Thank you very much for your comment though! I've used fabrics with zero stretch on patterns that called for stretch and never noticed a difference in the overall shape of the final plush. what happens when you use different fabrics with different stretch? why wouldn't it work? if you're not stretching the fabric to 100% stretch then why would it make a difference if it's full stretch is less stretchy than another fabrics full stretch?

  • @sewmicah

    @sewmicah

    Ай бұрын

    I guess I should’ve said MY patterns are fabric specific!😅 I don’t know what patterns you’re using so I can’t speak to that, but my patterns are pretty complex and I tend to notice when they’re even slightly off since I’m the one who made the pattern! One example I always go to when talking about this are plushies I used to make way back when I first started sewing. I used both fleece and mochi minky for the same pattern and they’d turn out WILDLY different, even if not stuffed to max capacity. That extra stretch meant that the fabric couldn’t hold the shape it was meant to hold because it just wasn’t ridged enough leading to a blobby mess. (So, with the mochi minky, you kinda HAD to over-stuff it because my patterns are fabric specific and required more structure to hold the proper shape!) Going in the other direction may be LESS of an issue, but could still cause problems with the overall shape of the plush since the pattern calls for a piece to stretch in a specific direction to make the correct shape. Another very funny example from my early days would be when I used the same fabric but put one leg vertical and one leg horizontal when cutting the pieces out. This wasn’t two different fabrics but it was two different stretches and one leg was ridiculously long and skinny and one was normal!😂 If I were to use tough leather with no stretch, for example, instead of my regular cuddle minky, I would need to change the pattern to be wider in the direction of the stretch and potentially change some of the general shapes of the pattern because leather is WAY more ridged and would make some of my nice smooth curves weird pointy edges without any stretch. The stretch of the fabric helps shape it in the way it’s meant to be. Kinda like trying to use cardboard instead of paper to make a paper boat. You CAN do it but the WAY you do it might need to be modified, especially depending on the kind of boat you’re making. Another thing I should point out is that some patterns may not be made with the intentions that mine have. Mine are meant to be like soft sculptures, pieces of art that you can cuddle with! They’re not stuffed rock solid or anything (in fact, they’re usually very squishy!) but because they’re also meant to be art pieces, the forms I created while making the pattern are VERY important to keep while making the actual plush. So fabric that changes those shapes is going to need its own version of the pattern. Another thing I always look to when talking about this sort of thing is a video one of my mutuals on tiktok made! They had a very simple, paper doll-esque frog pattern they made and were making little frogs out of old clothes (so cute!) When they showed off a group of them, they all were different shapes, sizes, and even moved differently when held! All while using the exact same pattern, just different fabric! This is a GREAT example of how a pattern can change drastically when a different fabric is used! As for your question about full stretch vs not full stretch, a fabric does still stretch, even if not at max capacity! So when you stuff a plush, if it holds any shape at all, it’s stretching, even just a little bit! So, yes! A rock solid stuffed plushie will look WILDLY different with different fabrics, but it’ll still look different even when not stuffed to max capacity!😁 Overall, having a fabric with no stretch on a pattern that calls for fabric with just a liiiitttle stretch may not make a huge noticeable difference for your average person, especially on less complex patterns. Having fabric with more stretch is another issue to keep in mind too though! But when you make the patterns yourself, know what they’re supposed to look like down to every little stitch and detail, have a pattern that is more like a soft sculpture, and don’t have time to re-make anything if something goes wrong? It’s best to just stick with the fabric the pattern was made for lol! So yes! A new different fabric with a slightly different amount of stretch may have worked perfectly fine! But it also might not have and, like I said in the video, I just didn’t have time to find out!😅💛 (Oh! And not to mention this fur feels SO NICE and it’d suck to lose that too!) There were a million things that went wrong making a video for this month (which, this plush wasn’t even the original plan!) and time was NOT something I had on my side lol! But! If you have time to test things out with your patterns right now, that’s great! Do that! Finding new fabric you can work with is awesome!!!🥳🎉 (I wish I had more time to test things out too!) But, for a TL;DR: •Using different fabrics with different stretch can effect the size, shape, and movement/structure of a plushie. •Using a different fabric with a different stretch CAN work if it’s not too dissimilar to the fabric the pattern was made for but not always. I personally didn’t have time to test and see and potentially have to re-order fabric if it didn’t work out. •Fabric stretches, even if not stuffed to max capacity, meaning the over all amount of stretch to a fabric is also taken into consideration when making a pattern, not just the maximum since fabric acts differently depending on its stretch and other qualities. (Think of stretch not just like its maximum stretch but also about how EASILY it stretches!) A stretchier fabric will require more stuffing to hold close to the proper shape, but because it’s so stretchy, it’ll end up more of a blobby shape than initially intended. (Not to mention with mochi minky it ends up not feeling as nice when stretched that far!) •And lastly, my plushies are more than just plushies, they’re art pieces! The shapes I planned out ahead of time are important to keep as much as possible since they’re soft sculptures! Anyway, I hope that helped answer your questions and will help you on your plushie making journey! And thank you for the questions! It made me realize not everybody understands how fabric works in plushie making! I’ll definitely have to add this to my list of topics for my patron plushie making tutorials so I can go more in depth about fabric and everything about it in a clearer and more thought out way than here! So thank you so much again and I hope you have a lovely day!!!😁💛

  • @sewmicah

    Ай бұрын

    It’s the same reason why factory made cookies are cleaner than homemade cookies! Because it’s done by a machine!😅 With hand sewing, even if you’re being REALLY careful, your stitches probably aren’t all the exact same length, in a perfectly straight line, or the exact same tightness. A machine on the other hand can keep everything uniform and clean without a second thought! But yes! Hand sewing can be VERY clean! It just depends on how much tedious time and effort one is willing to put into it! This 20+ hour plushie would likely take me 80+ hours to hand sew and at that amount of time, one can easily start to lose their cleanliness in their stitches.😅 As for your plushies? I personally haven’t seen them so I can’t say whether I’d notice or not, but I will say a few things that’d make hand sewing harder to notice! Fur can obscure the seams, you could be putting an obscene amount of time into each plush to make sure the hand sewing is as clean as a machine’s, and one can also pick out seams to help hide them and make them seem cleaner! Doing all these things would definitely make it harder to tell the difference between machine sewn and hand sewn! Hope that helped answer your question and I hope you have a lovely day!😁💛

    I’m glad you’re so excited about getting into making plushies! That’s so awesome! And thank you so much!!! You’re too sweet! It definitely took a lot of practice and learning but once you know how to make some basic shapes with fabric, you can just keep putting shapes together to make just about anything! I’m still learning though too! Recently I had a project that I started and had to shelf because I just couldn’t figure out how to get the shapes I needed in time to stay on schedule. Now though I’ve figured out a lot about that pattern and how to get the shapes I want and now I can apply those things I learned to other projects moving forward! It was REALLY hard there for a while. Like, inducing multiple meltdowns over the course of multiple days, kind of hard, but I’m SO happy with how it’s looking now and I can’t wait to make a video here on the channel for it! (No spoilers!😉) But that’s kind of one of the best things about something like this! Once you know how to make a certain shape, you can kinda apply that to everything you make in the future! Just figures out how to use fish eye/mouth darts because you needed a certain shape in one project? Now you’ve just added that tool to your tool belt and when you come across a similar problem you can solve it NO problem!😅 lol! Sorry for rambling a little there! I just get so excited to talk about building a patterning toolbox like this when I’ve just added something new to mine lol! But hey! That’s so awesome that your family is being so supportive! Just remember that if you get to the point where people are asking you to make them stuff left and right but you don’t have the time, it is OKAY to say no or not right now. I definitely have felt pressured in the past to make things for family members when I didn’t have the time and it’s not a fun feeling, that’s for sure! And don’t worry about getting an embroidery machine right away! I find ways left and right to avoid using my embroidery machine (that my parents got me for graduation/birthday so I didn’t have to pay for it.😅) and most of the time I can actually make BETTER plushies without embroidery! It may take more time but honestly, it can look SO good! These glass eyes I make now are an example of that! Sure, I could buy an embroidery file and embroider it but the glass eyes look AMAZING! lol! Okay! I’m done rambling now! I hope you have a fantastic day and keep going on making those plushies! Try your best to try something new and learn something new with each one and you’ll be making the biggest most extravagant plushies you could dream of in no time!🤩💛✨

    @sewmicah never apologize for rambling!!! i know i am just a rando commenter but i enjoy hearing your story! ♡ i ordered one of those character plushie kits off aliexpress and a ton of minky from bigz, but so far have just practiced on an old blanket and yesterday some fleece i ordered from amazon so i can get a feel of the "stretch" of it all! (since minky is stretchy.) it takes soooo long to hand sew. but it keeps me occupied and off my phone which is a win, lmao. 🤣 my sister is learning with me so i will let her take the brunt of the "will you make me this?" from my mom and our friends. LOL. the same way she is always asked about art and tattoo drawings. 🤣🤣 i can't wait to see your secret project video!! i am glad taking a break and setting it aside helped you find that motivation or knowledge in your brain at how to proceed!! and i cant wait to dive into some of your other videos on here, so i can take in a feel of the shapes or i guess to see more how you connect em cuz when you put the feet on, i was blown away. 😵‍💫 they always look so off and weird before everything is inside outted! i am trying to embroider eyes (which is the real reason i would get it LOL) and ending up with too much space between the stitches that ends up showing the fabric. 😭 gonna have to keep researching on fb and reddit and watching tons of youtube like i have been. thanks for hearing my rambles back!! 😋

    Aw, well thank you so much!!! And hey! That’s definitely a start!!! Learning how your fabric works is a super important step! Plus, of course, that added bonus of a little less screen time lol! Haha! Hopefully your sister doesn’t take on too much either but I’m glad to hear you have somebody to learn with! I really can’t wait to get that secret project out! It probably won’t be for a good couple months at the earliest, but I’m still super excited! It was definitely the stepping away from it being my MAIN project that helped! Without the deadline looming over me I could take the time to sit back and go “what EXACTLY is causing this problem” rather than just frantically trying to fix it without knowing exactly why it wasn’t working! It was so nice to just be able to STUDY the failed attempts rather than throwing them to the side because I had no time! And the feet! Feet are actually SUPER simple the way I do them! Think of shapes like in geometry! A leg and a foot are the same as a cylinder! Just a circle and a tube! And a tube is just a square or rectangle connected to itself! You can find these shapes in plushies you may have at home too! That’s why I always recommend people study the plushies they already have and look for the shapes that make them up! The seams are the dividing lines and everything else is always cut from a flat piece of fabric so how did it become this 3D shape? With a lot of time and practice, I can break down these shapes in my mind and see how they look laid flat! Hopefully you’ll be able to do that too with some practice because it makes making patterns a WHOLE lot easier!😅 And YES! Things look SO odd inside out sometimes! It can be really funny depending on the plush!😂 Oooh, yeah, hand embroidery can be pretty messy at times if you’re not super experienced at it! My best advice as someone who really doesn’t do hand embroidery but does do a lot of hand sewing is to take it SLOW! Any amount of trying to go quickly, especially when you’re just learning, can end up with messy embroidery that leaves gaps. So take it slow and embroider VERY close together. Like, practically going through the same hole you just came out of. It’ll be a LOT of work, but that’s how you get your best results! I have to remind myself of this ALL the time! Go slow, do things properly and/or in an over the top way and it’ll ALWAYS look better than if you try to take a shortcut. (I’ve learned that the hard way.😝) And no problem! If you listened to mine, it’s only fair that I listen to yours!😂 I wish you all the luck in your plushie making journey and I hope you have a fantastic day!!!💛

    You should do a video playing with dyes to get the EXACT color you want in your EXACT fabric. This plush turned out great, but the world opens up when you don't have to just buy what the fabric store wants to sell.

  • @sewmicah

    @sewmicah

    Unfortunately this fabric is SUPER expensive, at least for me, and would absolutely get ruined by dying it. 🥺(Seriously, there’s a reason mine got a 10/10 for sensory feel! The fabric is SO good and I wouldn’t want to risk it changing in the slightest because of the dye!) Some people may not notice a difference depending on the fabric, but texture is EVERYTHING to me so anything being slightly off and I’ll notice. (I may not always tell you all when I notice depending on the context lol, but I’ll notice!) I also don’t get it from any ol’ fabric store, it’s literally the manufacturer of the fabric that only makes the couple colors of green fur!😱 Since I’ve had a handful of people mention dye, I might make that part of a Patreon tutorial sometime in the future though! Maybe in a video explaining how fabric works (the stretch and how it relates to patterns and whatnot!) and I could add a section that mentions fabric dye and shows a little example of how dye can effect different types of fabric!😁💛 I learn something about what people want to know or might not know from comments every day and I wanted to thank you and everyone else for that! It really helps me put myself in other people’s shoes to find out what I may be forgetting to mention in my tutorials on Patreon or even in my entertainment videos here on KZread! So thank you so much again!😁💛💛💛

    @sewmicah valid reason! I took textiles in college, sometimes it can affect texture, and synthetics can be hard to dye in general, but not impossible. Dylon works well, but I have no clue myself if it would change the fabric texture at all. I suppose it could, but most of those are wet spun synthetic fiber, so the dye is just a stain left on the outer layer of those fibers, (kinda like how semi permanent hair dye works) so hypothetically any residue should wash away, but it would be interesting to see how different dyes affect the different fluff. Also how washable that fabric is/ will it loose fluff. I suspect the pinky would dye the best, and the plush fur is a whole different monster. Also you can't lighten any of them at all usually because the manufacturer likely has to add the pigments during the fiber spinning process, so it's really really really in there. Iol. I appreciate the detailed response a lot! Cute video &sweet personality. Keep up the good work 👏 🙌 I found you while doing research on a soft sculpture I'm working on of senshi from dungeon meshi lol! Pokemon will always side track me Happy sewing!

    Well thank you so much!!!🥺💛 I also want to apologize real quick! I think I’ve been getting unfairly annoyed with comments suggesting things like yours. Every suggestion feels like people are saying I’m unskilled and inexperienced because I didn’t use dye or airbrushing, or a different fabric or anything else rather than it being a conscious choice not to use them. I know logically that’s not the case! People are just trying to be helpful (for the most part lol, I’ve seen some rude suggestions in my day!) and that’s fantastic! I want to create a community here where people can help one another like that! It’s just for some reason my brain keeps telling me every time someone suggests something it’s an attack on my skills.(probably that PDA autism popping up again!) 😅 I know, that’s totally a “me” problem! I just wanted to share the reasoning behind the apology. Every response to a suggestion I’m fighting with my entire nervous system to not be a complete asshole and I feel like I’m losing that fight so I wanted to fully apologize for any rudeness, defensiveness, or sharpness in my responses! (This has literally happened when someone tried to warn me about an incurable lung disease that can come from cutting fur like this without a mask. My brain won’t even let me take suggestions right off the bat if it were to save my LIFE!😂) So, for an actual apology, both to you and anyone else! : I’m sorry for being a bit sharper and defensive than I should’ve been with my response! I’m going to do my best to avoid that going forward! I may have to leave comments suggesting things unanswered for longer than others so that I can fully process my own feelings before responding in a reasonable manner but I will still respond, hopefully kindly and respectfully!😅 (which is why this response is so late lol!) Your suggestion is a GREAT suggestion and could help other artists who come across it and MYSELF to try and find time to test things out for the future too! I may not have time to do any testing on fur scraps right now, but I did recently dye a different material where the texture doesn’t matter for our next project here on the channel so a SewMicah dye segment will be coming sooner than you’d think lol! But thank you so much for all the info you’ve given! I’ll definitely keep it in mind for the future!!! And thank you for being so sweet, even when my response could’ve definitely been less defensive.🥺💛 And good luck on your soft sculpture!!! I’m sure it’ll turn out great with all your knowledge of textiles!!!💛💛💛

Just let it fade into the ether!) Oh! I also thought I didn’t know who senshi was but I looked him up and I did try watching that show! I couldn’t get into it (anime is tough for me to get into at this point because a lot of it is so over the top and takes itself too seriously for that amount of silliness lol!) but that character would be GREAT as a puppet!!! I’m not acting a certain way because I think it’s “needed” for KZread or anything, I just really do have this energy when I’m doing something I’m excited and passionate about!😅 (Literally, I was JUST actually fully jumping around my kitchen because I was so excited about a new plushie idea lol!) My videos are meant to be enjoyed by people of all ages but certainly are not meant specifically for kids! If anything, my videos are meant for people like me! Young adults who just love plushies, positivity, creativity, and art! As for it feeling fake? That could just be because I’m autistic😅 I might just be a liiitttle awkward and that, along with trying to maintain eye contact with the camera, read my script, and the positivity, might make my video feel a little fake even if it’s all genuine on my end lol! Just a little communication error of sorts! In the end, I can’t really change who I am or how I react to things I like, but it’s okay if I’m not your cup of tea! There’s so many other KZreadrs with a chiller/low key vibe to them that you might enjoy and I’d be so happy for you to find other channels you genuinely really enjoy through and through!🥳🎉💛 I wish I had plushie channel recommendations but unfortunately I haven’t found many channels who do what I do consistently, but I can definitely recommend channels like north of the border and Rachel maksy! They were both huge inspirations when I started making videos and both have a pretty chill vibe while doing some creative stuff! Not really plushie making, but still fun stuff! No matter what, I hope you find some fun channels that fit what you’re looking for and have a wonderful day!!!💛
