@@doctorfunkenstyn537 Neither, my friend I’m saying that while in sports (let’s use soccer/football as an example because it’s popular) it’s all about outright ability, and has very little to do with X factor. Are you faster, more accurate and stronger? Your pretty much ‘better’. I can play the guitar with more speed and accuracy than Jimi Hendrix could. Am I better guitar player than him? Certainly not. Because there’s more to it than that. More to it than plain ‘competence’ - there’s a reason some musicians who are brilliantly skilled and barely artistic don’t have the legs to create evocative emotional responses So it’s not a sport, because it’s not JUST about being ‘good’

I think some people like talented musicians, he himself is admitting it’s easy If he could play subjectively good music, he would For instance Def leopard became a girl band after their drummer lost an arm This band has always been a girl band, why should he use any creative riffs when no girl will complain he isn’t technically talented

There's a balance. Something can be simple & beautiful or complex & shit. The best music is made when someone has the ability to be incredibly complex, but they know when to pull it out & when it's just not necessary. In general, talented musicians write better music than less talented ones.

Preach. So many musicians don't understand that it's not all about playing a billion scales and knowing every single point of music theory. I'm a classically trained musician, I can easily read sheet music, play most scales and modes, understand chords etc etc - but none of that is a substitute for just being able to make good music that people want to listen to and play

I get the argument that music isn't meant to be competitive, and pushing towards more progress with the instrument is unnecessary, but at the same time, everyone's writing the same music so no shit your genre and instrument is going to lose mainstream appeal and attention. Most of these people don't value mainstream appeal, but as someone who would like to do music for a living, if you don't have mainstream appeal, you don't make money. Musical "progress" I think is a necessary thing. Music is art, and if all the art is the same, it gets boring. Guitar players are just one of the groups of musicians that are so caught up in preserving what the innovators and heroes played when they were kids, that they're putting down the innovators of today. It's very backwards to me. Old people who fell in love with the popular music of their time won't let go and let young/talented people build on what they did.

Ive been playing guitar for almost 15 years now. I am not good at it....ok. im not a professional and you dont have to be a pro. If you wanna be a pro and get technical youre in a prime spot to become a teacher . Most actual songs are easier than youd think (unless you play metal music or something lol)
