Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

➳ When it comes to choosing a dog that is right for and the #AustralianShepherd pops up on your list, there a few more things to note than just a pretty dog. This breed is a work breed, they want a job. Yes, your aunt kathy that has an Aussie that lays on the ground all day but is 70lbs... yeah you're not going to get that and that is not why the breed is so amazing.
I thought I would take you along on a day in our life to show you how much energy this guy has. I hope you enjoy and as always please let us know what you thought in the comments

    I think that Frankie gets excited when he sees the camera because it means y’all are doing something. Either going somewhere playing, walking, etc. My pup gets super excited when I grab my backpack because it’s the backpack that we use when we go out and about.

    Great Video! I glad you mentioned the option of changing one's lifestyle to allow for the presence of a high energy dog. I think it's safe to say most people need to adopt a more active lifestyle to some degree or another and a dog can help them do that. Having a high energy dog can be a challenge, but sometimes having a challenge can be a very good thing.

    We got a mini aussie in January and she is the LOVE of our lives, but not an easy dog my any means. Lol. The breed is more prone to anxiety and reactivity, amongst being super freaking smart, which can make it challenging. Initially was going to bring her into the office with me when we go back to work, but she is definitely not that kind of dog we realize, and that's 100% okay. We are lucky to have a living / working situation where we can really accommodate her needs.

    I have to say that I was so ready to have a dog and my partner and me got one beautiful australian shepherd baby, I will never regret BUT people should know that sometimes can be really difficult and I live in a place that all around me is almost green and I have the luck to go out 2 hours to play every day and I have a green close space to play and STILL sometimes its not enought at all. If you dont have the time or you just like to walk I dont think at all that this dog its for you. I am a lazy person and he is changing my life, now I love to go and walk and train him that he can run as much as he want without being scared. I am very thankful because I didnt have another option and I am getting even healthier in my daily activities xD

    Frankie is such a lovely dog! My Penny is 14 months old now and yeah, I see the same VERY subtle mannerisms and cues between watching your videos and her. We spend all day together in a truck (most days) and a slow blink and/or a lick of her lips is her answer to "Do you need water?" "Do you need food?" or "Do you need to go potty?" Super smart breed. Takes a lot to keep them spun down (most weekends are spent outdoors exercising her and at least an hour a day during the week), but well worth it in the end. Love your videos! Keep up the great work!

    I 100% agree that making sure your lifestyle fits the dog you get. I love all kinds of dogs, I think Aussies are stunning and wonderful but not the breed for me since I am not a fan of water. For me shetland sheepdogs (sheltie) is the only breed I want as a pet. They are the right size and personality for me Crazy smart. Loyal. Does not like to be wet. I also have to be careful where I live because of the weather. Coldest city in the winter and crazy humidity in summer. A lot like Ottawa just more extreme. We Winnipegers are a hardy bunch, but dogs can still freeze or overheat. Just to let you know my two Shelties, Oliver and Yoshi love watching your videos with me. Great job.

    The answer is NO! They are the most awesome dogs ever, but not for everyone, so I’m glad you made this video. I have one, I love her, and I have kept her busy and entertained, and “working” for almost 12 years. She was able to go to work with me when I worked for a vet. I stay home with her now, and we spend almost every minute together. Not a dog you could leave home alone or in a kennel for hours. (No dog should be in a kennel for hours! But especially not an Aussie!)

  • @mythirlmaiden

    @mythirlmaiden

    3 жыл бұрын

    Honestly you don't have to be as active as Joey to own an Aussie, they are a busy dog but they have a good off switch and are fairly adaptable. As long as your work with them, give them a job, and exercise them they adapt pretty well. Most breeders too will work with you to get a dog that fits your life and be honest with you if they think a certain dog won't fit. Just be honest and up front about your needs, your concerns, your life and how much time you can commit and the breeder should be able to tell if their dogs are a good fit.

    I have two aussies and they don’t need AS much as Joey does! It certainly depends on the dogs but I have two standards. My boy needs maybe 30 minutes of exercise and my girl needs about an hour and then they’re perfectly fine. But together they tire each other out! The biggest thing is making sure you train them. Get them mentally stimulated and teach them things. Give them a job as well! My dogs jobs are to follow me and make sure I’m protected (after training them on this) but you can alter their job based on your needs :)

    Haha like I said in the video, there’s no one like frankie and I. I have all the time in the world to run him. I got him to run and to constantly be on the go. This breed doesn’t need as much as I give. But I trained Frankie this way. I do however believe the breed needs a run everyday. Helps with digestion, heart, joints, etc. If you want to make it work, it will work

    As someone who has a mini Aussie "nephew", I can confirm this. Australian shepherds were bred to be cattle dogs. So they are bred to be "working" dogs. They are very intelligent and high energy, and if you are not someone who can give them a lot of activity, they are not the dogs for you. They need to be walked daily, they need to be played with, they need to be challenged and given something to do. When I'm over at my sisters place, I play ball with him-I throw the ball and he either catches it in his mouth or he boops it with his nose. It's really adorable and he loves it. He loves playing with people. Australian shepherds, if they're left in the house all day, or if they're not a part of something you are a part of, they can have really bad separation anxiety. My sister's dog, whenever anyone used to leave the house, even if there were still people in the house, he would whine, cry, and then start howling. They are dogs that feel like they are missing out on something if they're not with you. We had to be careful about closing the door because he would run out. . .and plop himself straight in the car. :D. They are truly great, sweet, incredible dogs but they are not dogs to have if you can't deal with their high energy. If you can't take them out on a walk all the time, or can't give them play time, please don't get one. You're not doing them any favors. If you can, they are some of the most loyal, smart, sweethearts you will ever have.

    Chicken or egg? Maybe your training leads Frankie to be very active and form your opinion? I was walking yesterday and met a couple in their late 70s. They had a beautiful standard 2y old blue Merle. He was like a lab, very friendly and chilled. I asked about whether you needed to be a triathlete to handle him. They laughed and shared this was their fourth Aussie and just as mellow as the other ones. Backyard exercise, walks and couch potato. Hard to say but I wonder if part of their behavior is simply driven but how they are raised and people training them to do what is expected from them .

    Hey, Joey. I recently decided on getting an Aussie, and I wanted to hear your input/advice. I’m curious as to whether or not you used pee-pads? I’m not really sure if I want to use them, because in a sense it encourages your dog that it’s okay to pee in the house, so long as its in a specific spot, but I also don’t really want to have to bring the pup outdoors if it’s extremely hot and humid. I’m siding more to bringing it out, so long as it’s for a very short duration, but I know these breeds have so much hair, so I’m not sure if that’s okay. Thanks, if you do end up reading and answering.

    Frankie got neutered at 15 months I think! And I’m happy I waited. I really wanted it to not affect his growth or habits. Aussies are “big boned dogs” so I recommend after a year

    After all these great videos, the one thing I can’t figure out is….what are those lyrics in the cool tune at the end of every video? Now that I know you’re a musician, I’m guessing it one of your creations.

    So do you have a line of dog harnesses for Frankie when he jumps in the JEEP?.

  • @michaelquillen2679
    @michaelquillen26793 жыл бұрын

    Ooooo...when you let Frankie jump out of your Jeep, get in the habit of helping him by supporting some of his weight by lifting up on his harness while he jumps...especially on hard pavement or concrete, as it is really hard on the joints. I learned the hard way with my last girl, and would hate to see Frankie have the same kind of joint problems. However, you are right, these dogs need jobs to do - physical and mental - makes them happy and well-adjusted.
