It's the season finale of Can It Catch! We have tested so many different types of foods to see what will catch Blue Crabs this past season. We just had a freezer go out and instead of tossing all of the meat that was in it, we decided to use it as crab bait. We have 13 different meats that we're going to test to see what catches the most Maryland Blue Crabs in our crab pots.

She is quite a catch, and Luke knows a good catch when he sees one.
This was an epic run - love it - Happy New Year !!! Can’t wait to see what’s coming in 2024 !!!
I was with you all the way. A man that makes crabbing his lively hood knows what’s best. He’s the one buying the bait. He’s the one with skin in the game. I’m so glad this “science fair” proved you right, overwhelmingly. And what a great way to provide amazing content to your subscribers. That my friend was awesome! I subscribe to tons of channels on KZread and you have one of the premier channels. Happy New Years and keep up the brilliant content. Bravo!
I would like to see you try jellyfish again just to see if that was a fluke or not. Thanks for the video.
Man I miss the can it catch. You used one of my suggestions and was so excited to see it was about the same
I use fish carcasses of whatever I caught the day before. Usually get a half dozen after a 24 hour soak. Haven’t noticed a difference between trout, flounder, and redfish.
One of the best series on KZread!
Shrimp heads are the winner. I enjoyed watching your video thank you. I see having the right bait will make the hunt more successful. I hope to crab hunt someday. 🦀
I think it's funny that I'm now seeing lobster men in Maine doing their own version of can it catch. Like I didnt know that Luke did it first. Lol

My thoughts exactly! Saw those videos and immediately thought "copycat"!
Chicken neck! Best blue crab bait ever!
Luke on the pacific we use chicken quarters as the main bait but use sardines as a attractor to draw in dungies. I figured the Spanish mackerel did the best because it’s an oily fish. Lots of oil and scent in chicken skin. Like your channel brings back good memories in the ocean salmon and crab fishing ❤ some day I will come up there looking for the best crab cakes of my life . I already looked up that restaurant with the $180 crab cake burger and it’s on 😂❤ be safe you know the ocean.
Nice shot of the Key Bridge! Still unbelievable that it’s gone.
try any kind of liver and bread dough seasoned with something spicy its what we used to use in the galviston bay growing up and we did pretty good on catching our limits every day we were out
All my life while fishing off of rocks we would go crabbing in the shallow pool areas with a string and sock of frozen sardines. Crabs can pickup the oilly fish scent far away. You can see it happening in real time. But those shrimp heads I got to try out sometime.
Great Trip I love how your new deck Hands are so excited And eager See you in your next video.
I appreciate the work put into this mini series lol
Are used to go crab fishing all the time outside of Ventura Harbor in SoCal. Whatever bait we happen to use we found it worked Best if we smashed to smithereens so the scent would permeate the water and bring in a lot of crabs.
Best experiment. Very interesting to see what caught what. It is more impressive how many different fish you had in your freezer. Happy New Year May you have good fishing when you start up again.
Frozen seasoned fries from the store. The grease that resignates from them will fill that pot 💯 I use to use them to catch carp ( a bottom feeder) and would kill it!!
Love your videos. You are a hoot. Lived in Chesapeake Beach for 20 years. Used to go out with captain Buddy Thorne crabing. He was out of the West River.
Yall make a cute couple . Nice to see her and her sister out helping you. Shrimp heads good and cheep bait.
thank you for showing us this!
Luke I can watch your channel all day long...
I’m from Maryland and have ran a trotline for years with chicken necks. However. The trick with chicken necks is to use rock salt. It definitely will perform better then just regular necks

@@charlescrawford2283 yea I see it now. Didn’t realize I was autocorrected.
Great finale!
I do some recreational crabbing a few times a year over in Cali. We catch Red Rock and Dungeness Crab and what works killer for me is chicken drumsticks and squid. It’s cool to see what other people are using and damn those shrimp heads sure do the trick for you. It was not even a competition.
Please keep up can it catch its the ones i look for the most
Great Video! Luke and Family!
I love your videos, Luke! Keep it up
Well shoot. I’m gonna have to try shrimp heads. Thanks Luke
Love your posts Luke! Phew I know that bait must have smelled pretty rank, but, the crabs probably like it more. Most of the silver skin was bronze, something I've only seen w-some very old bait. Greetings from Maine and Happy New Year!
We used Cunner in Maine in our lobster traps. When the Macs ran we would use the guts and heads after cleaning them for bait. Had good luck with them. Pollak not so much. I think one of the reasons the shrimp heads are working is because they are already broke open and there is many of them. When that trap hits the water it's like throwing chum in the current. Hate to say it but I think you need to grind up the bait some, especially the oily fish. Funny seeing my water in your videos. LOL
I would combine the top 3 baits and make a bag of bait. We always used day old chicken that we left out for crabbing of the pier. The more oily it was the better.
Hilarious watching him get pinched lmao. Everyone knows they can’t get you if you hold them by the backfin!
This was entertaining 💯
Great vid!
Whatever u catch in the trap, (not Blue Crabs)😂gets cut up and used for bait. Fish, eel, etc, guts, everything! It’s whatever an underwater buzzard, crow will eat. Get it now cuz? Happy catch’n from South Louisiana Fisherman,! Bubby Plaisance!
If you want to try doing string lines on a beach, you can use turkey necks. I know this from going to grand isle for crabbing every summer in Louisiana.
Crabs love some chicken especially drum sticks it never fails 💯
Outstanding!! Your woman is soo cute! Yall look great together!
"oh no, I've done it now." ... 😂😂😂had me rolling....
Turkey legs! Always the best on west coast crab
Back at it let's gooooo 😂😂😂😂😂
Here in Australia tins of cat food work pretty well ! I'd love to see you test cat food out in one of your pots ! Stick a tin in the pot stab a couple of holes in it no need to empty the tins contents
I’ve always rolled with catfish leftovers after cleaning them in Louisiana. Haven’t really played around with much baits. That’s just always worked here. Least for me
Next time you do an experiment like this..can you put a camera on the pot or pots…so we can see it? Love your videos…just found your channel last week. Great content!
In NJ ive tried the carcassrs of: Bluefish False Abacore Striped bass Terrible... The best fish carcasses for catching crab in NJ Mahi Fluke Eel But the easiest and most abundant is the Moss Bunker aka Menhaden.
There are a lot of folks here in Washington that seem to think dungeness crab are attracted to "rotten" chicken. Fact of it is, they like FRESH meat. The fresher, the better. I Haven't even tried shrimp, because our pots are usually full after about an hour soak with nothing but the cheapest fresh chicken we can find at the grocery store.
💯🤔 Albuquerque New Mexico support in the house🎉 try some green chile chicken cheese enchiladas😂😂
At least you got your stingray back!! Happy New Year!
Bull lips are the best crab bait I've ever used
Luke please try Vienna sausages, come on give it a chance
Try using minke. That’s what my buddy just switched to for Dungeness crab in WA
Herd you had a good dinner date with the most wild candain boat builder hahah
Phillips frozen crab cakes! Will they catch?
I gotta get me some shrimp heads!!!
this is very informational *someone who does not go crabbing* lol
We used chicken necks on in the marshes near Huntington Beach on vacation in South Carolina. We caught some crab, and an alligator.
You got a acadian redfish on top of the one marked "pollock", we use those lobstering! Haha man their heads have spines and if they get you, it stings like a mofo 😂
You guys are a awesome couple working together as you do bringing the sister along OH DO NOT FORGET CHICKEN FEET SMASH WITH A BIG WOODEN MALLET!!!!! Back to the task at hand or I will forget what we were talking about Bro what was I saying sh!^ Oh well next time.......
😂😂😂 I just realized you look like a life size emoji haha! Big fan! Keep up the videos brotha!
0:11 should try smoked fish of any kind or salt fish
Would have been extra funny if captain CJ put like 20 blue crabs in the pod instead of fake sting ray 😂
That pokie fish is what we use to crab in South Louisiana my boy
If you run out of stuff there's always bait scents for lures that could go on a sponge or something? Or even hunting scents as long as they aren't $40 a bottle. Maybe people can donate their half bottles. I'm sure your post carrier would love that, haha! Great year, grats on almost 420K subs! 👽
Have you done Bacon? I’d like to see raw vs cooked.
Use a dry towel to pick up an eel
I wish ya would try catfish stink bait
Make that money brother
Bloody spleen That's what we use on the boat
I did smurfet once. I caught blue crabs first try. You should try that.
Crabs like shrimp and chicken legs 🍗
I’m surprised the cuntr fish didn’t do well guess I ain’t not crabber!😅
Awesome experiment! Try mahi-mahi remains, heads, backbone etc. Also, false albacore seems to work. Bunker works too at least in the Indian River Bay. I gave up on chicken about a decade ago. The smell of rancid chicken fat is really rough! I only crab for fun to be honest, not to live. Thanks for the cool content! Do you know anyone in Sussex County DE who sells shrimp heads?
Fun experiment, who knows maybe one day there will be something better.
You still haven't tried "Raw Pigs Feet" It's the best bait we have ever used to catch Blue Crabs and Stone Crabs in The Bahamas and The Florida Keys ! It's kind of difficult for them to eat but they love it ! And it makes for a long soak because the bait lasts !
I’m surprised they don’t grind the best bait up and add some sort of grain and pelletize it. Kinda like in Louisiana crawfishing.
Need to try Limburger cheese.
Wonder where you get shrimp heads in New jersey
Try soaking shrimp heads in minced garlic and tuna oil.. i bet you maybe surprised
Liked this one put the rookie to the test he had better be glad it wasn’t a stone crab.
Seagull’s work
Was really hoping the blue cat would catch better, give some incentive to people to fish them for bait.
try a goat head!!!! next season!!!
I wish you wouldve tried jellyfish again
Try Shira shami (not correct spelling) but you and crew must open it in the cabin then bait crab pots with it.
Have you tried Beef Melt? I've used it to catch a ton of crawfish down here but i've never tried it to catch Crabs before.
Use razor clams what we use for trout lines
Bottom crawlers love cat food the best it’s artificially high in protein!
Try a flounder carcass I have caught 19 in one trap before!
An yes blue cat we use to but we call the freshwater cats
What, no SPAM!? 😂
You just can't beat shrimp for bait .
I don't know if frogs are legal but if they are I'm going to have to send you some this year to try out
Salmon heads and butcher scraps could also be bait that you could get cheaply
Cobia is the pork chop of the seas.
Jellyfish is still the world champ
lmao with the eels, use beef tongue
Hey Luke, I got a good bait get chicken necks and soak them in menhaden oil
