It's the season finale of Can It Catch! We have tested so many different types of foods to see what will catch Blue Crabs this past season. We just had a freezer go out and instead of tossing all of the meat that was in it, we decided to use it as crab bait. We have 13 different meats that we're going to test to see what catches the most Maryland Blue Crabs in our crab pots.

I was with you all the way. A man that makes crabbing his lively hood knows what’s best. He’s the one buying the bait. He’s the one with skin in the game. I’m so glad this “science fair” proved you right, overwhelmingly. And what a great way to provide amazing content to your subscribers. That my friend was awesome! I subscribe to tons of channels on KZread and you have one of the premier channels. Happy New Years and keep up the brilliant content. Bravo!

Luke on the pacific we use chicken quarters as the main bait but use sardines as a attractor to draw in dungies. I figured the Spanish mackerel did the best because it’s an oily fish. Lots of oil and scent in chicken skin. Like your channel brings back good memories in the ocean salmon and crab fishing ❤ some day I will come up there looking for the best crab cakes of my life . I already looked up that restaurant with the $180 crab cake burger and it’s on 😂❤ be safe you know the ocean.

All my life while fishing off of rocks we would go crabbing in the shallow pool areas with a string and sock of frozen sardines. Crabs can pickup the oilly fish scent far away. You can see it happening in real time. But those shrimp heads I got to try out sometime.

We used Cunner in Maine in our lobster traps. When the Macs ran we would use the guts and heads after cleaning them for bait. Had good luck with them. Pollak not so much. I think one of the reasons the shrimp heads are working is because they are already broke open and there is many of them. When that trap hits the water it's like throwing chum in the current. Hate to say it but I think you need to grind up the bait some, especially the oily fish. Funny seeing my water in your videos. LOL

  • @fyrdoc

I would combine the top 3 baits and make a bag of bait. We always used day old chicken that we left out for crabbing of the pier. The more oily it was the better.

There are a lot of folks here in Washington that seem to think dungeness crab are attracted to "rotten" chicken. Fact of it is, they like FRESH meat. The fresher, the better. I Haven't even tried shrimp, because our pots are usually full after about an hour soak with nothing but the cheapest fresh chicken we can find at the grocery store.
