I would be 99. 5% confident he won't make it only because the 100 day target but certainly the distance is achievable. Having attempted the length of Ireland I only got to swim 50% of the days due to high wind, fog, mechanical and crew issues. Similar logistic issues were experienced on similar swim challenges but wish him the best 👍
Funny scrolling through this pessimistic/sometimes realistic(you would think) comment section after he actually made it back to Margate. Great effort Ross🍻

Kinda triggered that the website we're supposed to go to to check his progress is neither linked in the description nor works...

Love this challenge. Initial thoughts - young Ross is more beefcake than sleek fish-type build - how will swimming change his physique, if at all? How many plastic bags will Ross have to disentangle himself from? How many comments will be made by us Brits about stunning coves and beaches along our coast revealed by this swim along the lines of we-had-no-idea-our-country-looked-this-stunning? Is someone going to be on hand 24/7 to make Ross a nice cuppa? Having read Diana Nyad's book on swimming from Cuba to Florida, big fan of these endurance swim challenges so will make every effort to head to our shores at some point to cheer Ross on. Good luck all!
get a navy seal to swim it with you, will be extremely motivating :)
Hey Ross/RedBull, iam interested in how are your heartfrequences(pulse) while swimming, at the beginning, after a hour, after several hours ?! What kind of warm ups, strechtes and after sport regenerations you do ? for example what kind of foam roller exercises youd do ? Show this please in the next episodes !!! greetings from Germany and take care !
Yeeees go Ross!
Gives you wings

Legend. I’d like to see professional pitchers use that machine. It’d be interesting to see if they have stronger than average shoulders. I would have to say yes.
The body building Russel Brand with Gordan Ramsey mannerisms....i like this guy
Is there a way we can track his swim each day?.
Those trainers look comfy, what is the name of the brand?
5:47 It's from all the vlogging with your right arm 😎
If you pull this off I'll be amazed. Gargantuan challenge.
Do Australia next !!
I was part of a team of 6 swimmers who swam around the Island of Ireland in 56 days -so I have experience of swimming that distance each day-the biggest challenge I see is the 100 days and which vessel will be with him as a swimmer, and how the vessel will stay positioned each rest period-they would be the questions that a swimmer would have-I understand the dramatic is a selling point but it is blood and guts of the swim-but it is vital to understand-the reality of the swim is the dramatic approach-it;s the repeat immersion, it's is that a tide is not always assistance, it is the dehydration etc, and if he spends 3 hours making no distance-that is reality-the tides running up the coast of UK north run like a river, the reality of any marine challenges are limited-he is close to a vessel.. the wetsuits offer huge buoyancy but he will have to understand that the calorific intake for cold water is not that of a gym so am v confused with his intake.. Wish him the best of luck -he will be lucky to get to the north of scotland in 100 days-I would consider that a good swim.. crossing bays is another ball game.. Stay safe mostly. He has huge financial backing, and this is a professional swim for him so all the time in the world-take your time and make it count.
ABSOLUTE MAD LAD
Have you got a Hyundai coupe that interior looks like mine
Can't believe you done it! Fuckin world record will never be beaten.
You can do it i believe in you
You should try Iceland next
Great!
Ross please just don't die out there, you have proven enough already!
You can do it. But I guess you will learn how to pray along the way. I will follow your progress.
Is it on Strava though
you spoke to sean conway for any tips?????
He just like the nicest guy
Which brand is the shirt ross is wearing ?
Go on Ross
I am amazed great white shark circling UK.
Is it really a problem if one shoulder rotator cuff seems to be stronger than the other for this sort of exercise? One reason the shoulders are different is that the bodies just used to moving the right shoulder a bit more because of him being right hand dominant and he brain knows how to activate the muscles more in the right than the left. But getting back to the original question, if the majority of the breaths of the stroke (assuming freestyle) is going to be when the right arm is up then wouldn't it exactly matter if that body isn't completely symmetrical for this aspect? Like how a rowers body is lopsided because of the side of the boat they row in a sweep movement, or when the ligaments of a cricket bowlers arm are looser in their preferred hand, or a tennis players' dominant arm will have more control than the motion of a forehand than the non-dominant. Hopefully you get what I'm on about. A thought coming from someone that has completely no swimming background.
@josephmiller2254
6 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, to not over compensate with one arm (thus straining it) you must be as symmetrical as possible. Also by the way, rowers do swap sides a few times a season to prevent a deficiency in symmetry (this is due to training one side leads to bad bio mechanics; also you will most likely change roles in the boat many times in the season especially in the winter). And whilst in the gym or on the erg, rowers with train both sides evenly. I believe that it is for the same reasons that swimming lop sided is bad in swimming. (I row and have done triathlons, and have suffered a weakness in one arm not dissimilar to this and it caused all kinds of problems :)
When do you start?
I hope so.
It’s just that though, he’s not a swimmer. He isn’t built for swimming, he’s built for lifting. It’s impressive that he’s accomplished what he’s accomplished thus far.
The caffeine comedown will be brutal
0:01 what is the brand of this t-shirt
All I could think in the last swimming one was where the hell is he going to the loo during these 6-10+ hour swims....?
That guy’s forearms are huge!!

So nice :)
Holy actual fuck. Trust Ross to do this
Any other health professionals can weight in on 5:01? I'm a physio student, and I can't understand how massage, friction massage and dry needling can improve his left arm strength. There was no motor learning involved as well. I reckon it's simply a relearning effect and he didn't use the machine the first time properly. Either that or he had some pre-existing issues (muscle tightness) that affects motor recruitment, but that's really really unlikely as he'd have mentioned he has a dodgy shoulder before doing the machine the first time.
@omp365

i reckon it doesn't matter what the student assumes about what the expert does.
@ianyapxw

Toby Clegg you're missing the point. I'm not questioning the physio's judgement to do those techniques, and I know the clinical indications for those. I'm questioning either the editor, or Ross in 5:21 where he seems to indicate that the treatment has a correlation to his test results.

Toby Clegg I reckon the absolute ignoramus disregards valid arguments and basic facts about human physiology that validate the student's questions and resorts to fallacious arguments by authority.

I'm saying Toby's a dumbass for disregarding ianyapxw's comment, even though it makes sense, just because the doctor in the video is a doctor.
What scares me most isn't the distance, but the cold water. Good luck.
You sir are crazy
