Can I Use Driftwood to Aquascape a Saltwater Reef Tank? // The Mangrove Forest Aquarium
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
Tyler used driftwood in his mangrove saltwater reef tank…and it looks AWESOME! Plus, an update on the coastal lagoon!
I’m so happy Tyler invited me over for a tour of his 2, 45g SR Aquaristik reef tanks. He is constantly evolving as a reef keeper and there is ALWAYS something new to view at his place. We didn’t even get to the lobster bowl!

Let's hope to see more tanks done in this style. I feel like they're more reflective of creativity than deep pockets like a lot of the neon "jewelry case" tanks we've been drawn to.

I also like that his tanks aren’t just TEEMING with fish like so many reef “influencer” tanks are. I like that each fish in there has room to move and live without running into another fish. I personally don’t mind the whole neon thing - the availability of the fluorescent colours kinda makes the hobby unique - but the white light “natural” look also definitely has its place and looks amazing too.
The Scott crow things makes me laugh every time

Jake Adams is a huge inspiration of mine in my reefing journey and it saddens me that we lost him so soon. I’m honored to be referenced to this reefing great.
I love how natural they look they all remind me of tidepools

The ending lol
What a cool tank! I love people pushing the limits and trying something unique. Not every tank has to look like a blacklight poster xD

Always love seeing Tyler’s tanks. Such a great style!
C'mon, Remy. You gotta give us an update on this awesome driftwood tank!
I love the combination with driftwood, so good to know that it works! The next interesting experiment would be with dead leaves on the ground, as is the case in Raja Ampat.
Hurricane Aftermath is an amazing tank. Also has that amazing yellow tail tamarin - mine is my favourite fish
I am extremely fortunate to live 5 blocks from Zooxae, the retail store for SRaquastik. I was asking Scott there about mangroves and he brought up Tyler's tanks. He had mentioned that mangroves need to be started in fresh water and great care is needed in transporting them to salt. I guess i was hoping for a bit more direction if anbody know....

Always love your videos when you head over to Tyler's place. He is so knowledgeable about this hobby and his tanks are awesome. Oh yeah and after our quick chat at Gateway when I was discussing a 240 with Chad and you were like just go for it. Well I went for it. Cannot wait to start this new BIG tank journey.

Chuminghams has to be the best. He's probably the most cutting edge non professional reefer - maybe Yoshi's home tank comes a close second with his acropora but he does work for a collector.
I enjoy his tanks. Completely different from the mainstream and one of my influences with my horse tank

Im so glad I was able to finally find a piece. It’s such a cool coral that many wouldn’t think twice about. If you have ig, send me a picture of your blue ridge. I would love to see which species you have. I’m still waiting for it to grow enough to understand it’s growth form so I can identify it.

I was wondering what other Hardscape you could use in saltwater! I've seen people use lava rock, but aside from that it's just been the same old reef rock, artificial or wild. I'd love to try some driftwood now knowing that it's possible! Maybe some types that are less prone to leeching would work better, like spider or manzanita wood.

Exactly! I love how Tyler is always experimenting. There are so many biotopes that exist in the world. The fluorescent look has it's place but these tanks are always so beautiful!

Wow. I was curious about ph in a drift wood aquarium ? I know my wife's shrimp freshwater shrimp aquarium the driftwood was beneficial to lower ph as the driftwood gets broken down.
@inland_reef

I need to get a ph probe to monitor that. I think that would be interesting data to uncover. Currently not monitoring it but I think it’s something I will add in the future as this is the number one question I’ve gotten from this tank. Stay tuned!
