A part of me died inside when you decided to walk onto the flat, nondescript ice in a middle of a literal blizzard instead of following the road only to end up back there anyway. And then when you decided to head from the garage to Jackrabbit Island through wolf infested territory at like 15% HP WHILE having meat on you. Next episode, you should just go on a wolf killing rampage with the bow and arrow. It's very satisfying. FYI, if you ever get caught in a blizzard like that and don't know where shelter is, it might be worth it to find a wind proof spot behind a tree or rock and build a fire. You had a lot of coal on you so you definitely could've outlasted the blizzard that way.

Hiding the death of Steve from the Zomboid Metro series was a genius move. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time with the blizzard and the wolves!

Hey Lime, if you look in the corner of your screen, upper right and upper left, you can see just a little bit farther in the distance. That may help you in the future. Also, I discovered after leaving the game for about a year that the bait you can attach to your hooks is found by catching fish and breaking them down to use as bait.

One more video with a character at death's door, maybe that fallout's video rub this series with difficult odds like with the PZ metro series.

15:20 -- unfortunately, decoys haven't been reliable for a while. Evidently Hinterland felt it was too easy for players to get headshots on wolves by dropping meat and taking a shot while the wolf was snacking. The torch trick is always there as long as you have a rock, but as other commenters have noted, the simplest solution would be to not walk around stinky in the first place. Of course, once you can fight back, the calculus changes.

Decoys were basically useless for several years but I think Zaknafein and other youtubers like Bashrobe have mentioned that Hinterland seemed to have quietly updated the decoy system in one of the DLC patches and it supposedly works better now

I keep wondering the same, I get it early on when cat tails are literally the life or death rations, but I keep seeing players with huge stock piles of food that never go above like 10% in the hunger meter!

AFAIK: It's cuz you take less damage from being hungry vs thirty, cold, or tired. So you can kinda cheese the game by keeping your food low and only eating when you can eat well and get the Well Fed buff.

@@nowhere3600 No, all the damage you take is cumulative. When you're starving and cold, you're taking damage from both of those things. But the damage you get from cold is FAR higher than the damage you get from starvation. The cold, fatigue, thirst, and hunger take 20%, 1%, 2%, and 1% of your HP bar per in-game hour respectively when they're fully drained. The real reason Lime and other Interloper players often have their food bar on red is because they're using something called the "starvation tactic." Basically, you don't eat anything all day, and then right before you sleep you eat around ~800 calories. The reason this works is because the amount of HP you heal during your sleep when all your needs are met is enough to outweigh the health loss from being hungry during the day. It's not ideal, however, since it means you're taking more damage and not healing as much, and you don't get the Well Fed bonus which gives you +5 kg carrying capacity and some extra maximum health. Typically, players who use this strategy will do it in the early game, and then once they can get a reliable stream of food through hunting or fishing, they go for Well Fed. But the most skilled players usually just forgo using this tactic entirely and go for the bonus from day one.

@@nowhere3600 as far as I understand, it’s more beneficial to eat to the brim on easier mode because you find more food and other items so you don’t feel stressed about running out of food, also being well fed for 2 ingame days gives you a buff that allows you to carry +5 kilos. That’s handy if you’re having big amounts of loot. On difficult modes you don’t find that much food or other items anyway so you don’t really need the buff, so in order to save your food you get well fed before sleep, and all the health you’ve lost from starving earlier comes back. At least that’s how I’m thinking, sorry if the explanation is indistinct, english is my second language
