Apologies for the lack of 1080p in this one I messed up my settings but won't do it again! Also the sound at the start I was trying a new microphone and completely messed that up too which I have learned from! Phew! If I'd of had the time I would of re done but sadly not possible, the exciting news is though that from the 1st of march I will be able to put a fair bit more time into these lovely films so stick with it, and as ever, thank you for watching and let me know what you think. P.s. the song details are in the description this time! (See, I'm learning!)

@@tastyclassics Just exactly what I was going to say - but I doubt Derek would ever be driving through my home city of Stoke on Trent in one of his cars. Loved the scenery as you passed through Stoke, then Stone, then Rugeley - cant get better than that - the UK version of Vice Grip Garage passing through my city in such an iconic car which I remember from my childhood back in the 70s and 80s. Most of these Scimitars tended to have the Borg Warner auto box though didnt they?

Hello i love watching your videos. Having mental health issues and being disabled you make my day. i have always been into cars from my dad who died in 1991 i was only 15 and he had many cars from Vauxhall 101 to mk2 cortina' a triumph 2000 to a viva and a mk1 escort. My very first car was an austin allegro reg number TOJ 956N. so keep up the good work and i look forward to watching more of your great videos. I would love to see the Scimitar having the paint sorted and may be having it straight piped. i have always loved the Reliant Scimitars but never had the money to buy one so i think i would love to see you do more to the car because it deserves it. so all the best to you and thank you for making such great videos kind regards Richard from Dronfield Derbyshire.

Always had a bit of a soft spot for the Gte. Especially the chrome bumpered pre 1976 cars like this SE5. That extra lock on the rear wing looks like it's for a Selmar alarm system.
Had a 1977 S reg in yellow, Ford Essex V6 back in 1992, started it up one winter -12 and cracked the block! it was left outside all winter and i paid the price. Sold it as spares or repair, one of many mistakes in my life, be careful with these regarding inner panels, they hide allot of rot. Would love another but stupid prices. Fan of your channel since the Merc's you restored. Keep going sir!

The separate lock is the alarm/immobiliser. That’s how they were armed way back in the day when I first started to drive. Behind there should be wires. If not, it’s a “dummy” alarm, you could buy dummy locks like that or get them from a scrap yard, fit it then folk thought you had an alarm. It was always there as it’s next to the drivers door…. Less messing about to arm it once you have locked your drivers door. P.S, yes, I am really old😂😂😂
@nicholasperry2380

You can't be old as I am very familiar with the things too, and I don't consider myself old 🙃 If it's a real system I'd seriously advise un-connecting it as they failed frequently even when new. IIRC Piranha was one popular one, looking at the door sticker this is a Selmar which, I think, used similar components.

Yank here watching from Addison, New York, U$A. I'm enjoying this little spud of a car. Seems like it was designed to go head to head with the MGB GT as far as styling goes. Keep doing what you're doing. Sentimental mentality is what saves cars and makes dreams come true.

Thought you were going to jump in and take it for a thrash around the Nerdburger for a moment there. Great stuff, love my old British stuff - especially you Ambassador resurrection. Also a big Carlton fan - very underrated car. Though I prefer the early MK 1 and 2 (facelifted 1 shape) as I owned one of each. Would love to see you give life to a neglected big rover - P4, 5, 6, SD1 or even 800. With all the ordinary cars you show love to you need to be titled 'Bottom Gear', though not sure how that would go down with search engines. 🤔 Love what you do, keep it up Big Ben!!

ive got a 74 gte so the same body as this one but its in "champagne" (very faided custard cream) with a tan vynal roof, theyre brilliant cars. i wrote this comment when you opened the rear hatch and said to myself, dont force it as itll come off and you did just that haha. mine did the same when the struts went, you should find somwhere that two little screws will have fallen out that holds the hatch to the body. also, for a car thats been sitting for so long, that essex started up faster and easier than it would have new

I love the sentiment! I hate seeing cars getting scrapped, I've been guilty of letting a few go myself that I really regret. Now I'm more about saving them too. I'd say get the Scimitar fixed up and running sweet and let it wear its patina with pride. It's had long enough being parked up, time to let it taste the road again.
"Auwoigjt maiyt, aouw ya doin?? Oighm frum essix, wheeheyyyyy..." so brilliant

What a brilliant channel, how have I not seen these before, so glad I found them, love the format, and your humor, keep the format and banter as it is, its a great formula, and really looking forward to the next one. As to the Scimitar, maybe just a sympathetic restore to keep it with some age to it. Wish you all the best for your future episodes and going full time KZread. P.S I'll happily buy one of your tops as always medling with a car or two lately.
Another great video Ben. These classics deserve another chance and I'm pleased you'll be doing more.
Following the comment re the extra key hole, on the passenger side looks like a Selmar alarm sticker, these were an aftermarket 70s alarm that were key activated. Love the surprise when it started, keep on saving the lost souls.
Really glad I have found this channel having watched sooooo many US "will it start and drive 1200000000 miles" to finally find a decent UK one with cars I actually used to see driving about! I've a 10-a-penny '78 MGB GT so I've an interest in older cars, but I was born in the 70s but cannot afford a fast 80's ford! Keep up the good work!

I was thinking some sort of immobiliser or alarm/security system override key switch as well. My dads cars never had them but I think an uncle had a newish car around mid to late 1980’s with an odd extra lock and as an inquisitive young 10 + year old asked about it and he said it was something to do with alarm/security system. Quite popular on newer cars back then I seem to remember.
I'm from LA California it's a beautiful card you got all the original parts restored all the way and keep it
Fantastic channel - straight forward and down to earth viewing and exellent content - the music in this episode is great too - that scimitar is one hell of a good motor!

Wonderful video 👍, lovely to see the Scimitar make it 👍, I am looking on E Bay now 🤓
Just watched this again, best thing I’ve viewed this Christmas. Superb 🎉
This channel has fast moved to my top spot among all usual car channels. Because it's UK, is not so easy or glamorous and I appreciate that. I also have to roll around in the dirt in most weathers, fiddling with fine* British contraptions, and this always offers a unique experience to which I can relate. I reckon that the cars will have to be sold off on something like an Instagram account as you go, so you don't end up with 52 cars at the end of the year... which could be a problem! A mandatory pre flight checklist would also be useful so you know, wheels don't fall off... you nutter! Great channel Ben, which can only get better as it grows. Keep it clean and shiny side up, Thanks for the gr8 entertainment!
Absolutely fucking fantastic video. The Ambassador vids were mint but that was even better. All the very best for you bud the time flew watching that. And, as for the Scmitar: sympathetic resto or mild resto mod gets my vote. Can't wait for the next video.
Brilliant effort, always one of my favourite cars and so good to see you save another one - good luck with the new business and look forward to seeing it develop.
