You're my inspiration of my saxophone journey 🔥
Incredible that you retain your tenor sound on alto !!

Most dominant Sax cats retain their vibe on lesser dominant saxes. I.e. if you main tenor then you tend to keep those tendencies on alto and vice versa. It’s interesting that isn’t quite the same thing if you play soprano or bari.

That’s not a wholly good thing…
It seems like you settled into the alto sound more towards the end, you can definitely hear how he gets more comfortable playing the alto
this is so fun! crazy to see how the techniques don’t transfer over with the same tonal outcomes…also i feel like your alto tone changed gradually from the first clip to the last lol, you sound incredible as always!
Chad, you sound amazing on just anything!
I had a very similar experience, I initially started out on alto (like many) but then switched to tenor shortly after. A few months ago I tried playing my brother's alto and I could barely even play a low B, I found the entire saxophone a little resistant but after a bit of playing a figure it out.
Your alto lines on Body and Soul are so sweet and melodic...amazing!
Chad I love this Body and Soul on Alto sounds great!
It is great to see that practicing on one saxophone type (tenor) keeps and improves your skills on the other reed instruments as well. Especially helpful if one has to switch between instruments. Cheers from Chris
Man, you sound fabulous on both horns!!!!
if i ever needed another horn i'd love to get the nexus alto. sounds so smooth.
Great to hear from you! As for the comparison for me you sound much better, more rounded, more soulful on tenor. In Body and Soul and in Cherokee Alto was very close. Not so in the other ones. I felt that on Alto for the most part it sounded ‘technical’ while on tenor it sounded soulful. Anyways - i hope that the touring eventually will bring you to the Northeast US - would love to hear you live. And just as a note - I am very grateful for the online work you are doing and the content you have created - to me that was and is a lot of inspiration.
Nice my Mannnnnnnnnn! That alto is smokin! Wish I could play like that!
5:27 lol look at the left knee action incredible
Damn man, whole video sounds gorgeous.
That alto tone is giving me some of the Rare Lee Konitz...very nice!!
Remembering that Sonny Stitt did that more than a half century ago ! See the "New-York Jazz" session on Verve records ...
Awesomeness ❤❤❤ I love to hear Soprano added in for a comparison too 🖖🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Cool. Love it 👍😎
I may not play any saxophone, but this is really cool.
UPLOAD MORE PLEASE!!!!
Phenomenal. Maybe a cheeky transcription is in order :)
Sounds great man

Sometimes i wake up and i just want to be chad lb. life seems like my dream
Wow, I just started to play the alto more often after playing tenor the whole time lol.
7:26 i love this minor blues alto part i was squinting so hard
you definitely seem more comfortable with the tenor. I'm a clarinet/bari sax/flute guy myself...
His name is literally Chad. Like hes a chad

Hi. You really playing the Havana International Jazz Festival this week ...Jan 2023
what ligature were you using for the alto? do you not have one for the alto the same you have for the tenor? do you find playing the alto again challenging to keep a tighter embouchure compared to the tenor after all those years?
Great thanks. I notice the Nexus saxes don't have the link bar on the left hand pinky table. More like an SBA than a VI. Apologies if you've explained that before, if not, care to?
hey chad, i was wondering what tip opening and reed size you used for your tenor? i’m currently on the nexus 3’s on my jody hr dark 7* and i’m hopefully getting a edge soon. i wanted to know what works best for you.
Yes.

When are you releasing the Nexus triangle? After the Nexus wood block? Not before the Nexus dripping faucet!
Dude! Two things.... One, you read my mind, was wondering where you'd gotten to...... Two, was that a Jamey Abersold backing t ack I heard? Been a long time..... Oh, and....... Three, you were owning that alto; apart from the fact you actually DO own that alto. 🌟

Trying to play alto again after playing bari for a few months was weird also

Same bruh it was weird
I've never seen an exercise exactly like this where the same player improvises over the same chords with two differently keyed instruments of the same type. Seems like your approach is slightly different on alto and tenor though I'm not technical enough to explain how or perhaps why. Really interesting though, thanks!

It’s all relative… in other words the fingerings are shifted by a fourth, which means certain affordances are going to be lost or gained, given that he stays in the same key. For the player, its like the whole song has been transposed… even though we hear the same key.
@MLHunt

@@mil3ston3s I understand all that, i played sax and a little trumpet as a kid into high school. I was thinking more about the character of Chad's soloing on the two instruments and how there seemed to my ear to be slight differences in his approaches, and why that might be. Is it that alto takes somewhat less wind so the breathing aspects are different? Or the fact that the keys on alto are slightly closer and have shorter throws? Or was it something about the particular keys of the grooves he was playing in that made him necessarily center his solos higher or lower in the range on a given instrument? Or how those particular keys transpose differently on the two instruments because they're pitched a minor fourth (i think) apart? There was definitely a difference in the character of his soloing on the two instruments and i was just trying to puzzle out what might account for it.
My man coming on here sounding just like Cannonball Adderley

No fair! You took a break in-between edits!
🎷🚀
You can hear the Eric Marienthal in the last one lol
Up to the end you had already adapted to the alto well.
baritone?
Alto seems so like a toy in your hands 😄
I have homes in two countries. In one I play tenor, in the other I play alto. It takes a few days to adjust between them, to find the right sound. Also, I play differently because of both the different sound (alto is more waily, tenor is more mellow) and the greater dexterity of the alto. It’s like changing personality.
the alto looks so small in chads hands I thought it was a curved soprano for a second 😂
There was a question like can I ride a bike after 13 years.
And now we want you on baryton ❤

I wanna see him play bari
Why pick between playing one or the other, play them both at the same time, them, a bassoon, and a full pack of cigarettes like a true one man orchestra because your Chad friggin LB #chad 3:16
